Witcher 3 PC Performance Thread

Don't have the disc version so I'm not sure. Could it be that it's failing to download the .exe?

Seems I fixed it. My CD drive was not readind the CD or something, stopped, inserted the cd again and now it seems to works, at least its installing files.
EDIT: and just went fro 140 minutes to 48 minutes estimated time. So its definetly working.

Game is running well with everything on Ultra and hairworks ON. I'm getting 35-45 on open fields full of grass, 10800. My rig is a i5 4460 + gtx 970. I love the hairworks effect in this game, so I'm giving up 60 fps. Game feels smooth at 30 fps anyway. How representative is White Orchard anyway?

Anybody is using ReShade? Any recommended preset? I'm partial to presets that remove the brownish color of the game. There's a bunch available on thelazy but I can't decide which one is better.

My Steam overlay stopped working when I used Durante's fix. Has this happened to anyone else?

Nevermind, I think I fixed it. Had to turn on some Custom 3D setting or something.

I get windows low memory warnings telling me to close Witcher 3 sometimes when I'm on desktop and Witcher 3 is running in the back. I have 8gb ram, but system ram usage is only 5.5-6gb when I get the warning, what gives?
I've got an additional 2gb pagepool as well. Is something wrong with my ram or is windows just weird like that?

Hmm, i use a 4670 and a 970 but anything lower than 60fps is stuttery mess, even at 60fps, frametimes are all weird. Don't know why is that, it's not like vsync stuttering, it's lot worse and way more annoying.

this is nice http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3705/

Last night I noticed a few objects (walls, rocks) that seemed to switch from very low or no textures to proper textures visibly, even when i was pretty close to them. Is this normal for you guys? I wonder if it's because I'm on a regular hdd.

Ah, I tried this one. It's nice, but FILMICPASS is a bit costly, around 5 fps.

Right now I'm using this:

http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/3712/

edit: actually, there's no filmicpass on this preset.

Out of the ones on the SweetFX DB, that's probably my favorite from screenshots. I may give this one a shot. Don't like how people tend to crush blacks so bad with these configs.....it looks bad on the XBOne, and it looks bad here. No thanks!

Changing Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames to 1 in the control panel completely fixed my stutter/jitter issue on my Titan X. I was confusing that option with Virtual Reality Pre-Rendered frames, which was already set at 1. Now the game runs smooth as butter with everything maxed (except foliage distance to high) including hairworks @1440p.

Would this give me a better experience than PS4?

Yeah, for sure, since a 750ti already gives you a better experience than the ps4. You can check out the 750ti witcher 3 thread to see what kind of settings and frames they're getting.

playing with ultra foliage distance and 9600 grass density in the ini since 2 days now, looks great but damn my fps drop from 70 to 40

Been messing around with the settings on my i5 2500k 3,3ghz and GTX970 combo, and it seems like hairworks, highest foliage distance and ultra shadows are pretty much the only settings I have to lower to keep a consistent 60 FPS at 1080p resolutions. And hairworks is the only thing that drops the framerate below 50FPS.

HBAO+, ultra textures, ultra details, etc. None of them are any problem for that configuration. Feels really solid. :)

As per the Nvidia tweak guide, pushing the grass density too high actually lowers the variety of grass that gets spawned. If you lower that down to like 4800 you should get you a similar look, but with more variety (and possibly a slightly better frame rate).

Nice! Glad to see this is working for others as well. i thought I turned into an FPS snob for awhile there but as it turns out 30FPS without that stutter issue is just fine. Now I can go back to being a graphics whore. haha :)

I don't bother with 60fps because the stuttering kills it, so I just upped everything.

Crashing seems to have stopped since the latest patch, which is nice.

I used to get that, until I raised my pagefile size, up it and experiment. I've got 8GB too.

I think MSI Afterburner, RTSS and related program are what is causing all the crashing. I played for hours without any problem, than i restarted the game with Afterburner and RTSS and after 5 minutes the game crashed to desktop.
It might just be a coincidence so some else should try to see if it's the same on their end. I have a 970 and the latest driver on w7.

Yeah I might be inclined to think the same. I hadn't been using it today but then decided to start displaying my GPU temp to screen and the game crashed during this phase of playing; a coincidence, maybe, but I will leave the numbers alone and just enjoy the game.

A strange graphics glitch occurred in that yrden would not show on the floor when I used it. I also had to light some fires for a side mission and the flames would not show. Quitting the game and reloading fixed it. There hadn't been a driver crash.

I haven't had any stutter problems, but I tried Durante's fix out of curiosity and I got massive stuttering and screen tearing despite fraps saying it was 60 FPS. It's silky smooth with only the in-game vsync. Wonder what the deal is. Maybe SLI eliminates the stutter? Or Tri-SLI as that's what I have?

Jesus I really hope NVidia can manage to get the GTX780 back to working at (about) 970 levels of performance. I shouldn't be 10-20 FPS behind....

Yeah it didn't work very well for me either. Honestly I have no issue with in game FPS limit and V sync, and I'm usually very sensitive to FPS.

So after playing around with some settings I seem to be having some kind of object flicker problem.

Sometimes when moving the camera the grass and some rocks and stuff on the ground will flicker and/or dissapear.

Has anyone had this problem and knows how to solve it?

I took Project Reality as a template and modified it a little. It's the most satisfying result I've had so far. Now I'm all set to play the actual game! :D

witcher32015-05-2121-30-162.png

I've posted the settings here:

http://pastebin.com/KGPDrrP7

Thanks man, used your modified template and INI settings. INI is hitting my framerate for-sure (980x@4.0GHZ + G1 970), but it really looks great! If I continue to enjoy it I might have to lock my framerate to 30.

Uhh, is the new 'Sharpening' setting just some fake over-the-top bullshit or is it worth having on? I guess because I've been used to game without it (or on Medium) it looks kind of unrealistic putting it on High. The game does look quite blurry without it though...

Tell me what you think. I'm liking it quite a bit, but I'll try a few others later.

Well I gotta hand it to CDPR. I got this game running at 30fps locked on lower that low settings in many cases, at 1360 x 768 and it still looks fantastic.

Anyone on a laptop with a gtx 765m trying to get playable settings let me know. I'll post my INI.

A lot of snobs will tell you that shapening ruins the game but I think on low it pretty decently eliminates the blur introduced by anti-aliasing. On high, however, oof.... It looks like photoshop gone wild.

Yup. On lower settings and red the low setting is quite nice.

Every day that amd is late with their updated drivers is another day I consider not buying amd cards as my next cards. I don't play games that often and this is my first game in a long time and I'm getting really disappointed that I'm not able to utilise my full power capabilities. I'm just glad that a single card can run it as ressonably well as it does...

So for some reason even after disconnecting my controller and using the keyboard and mouse the game still shows command prompts from the xbox controls so fast traveling becomes impossible without it hooked in.

Anyone have a fix for this?

I moved the game to my SSD and got noticeably worse NPC pop in. Moved back and it was gone. Weird. Wonder if it's because of the method (Steam Mover) or just a case of bad luck.

What the... I ONLY get crashes if I overclock my 3570k. Overclocking the GPU is a non issue for me.

I had the CPU dialed up to 4.4. Haven't tried anything between that and stock (3.8)

About to try 4.2Ghz

I have this while walking on horseback. I really mean walking, so no holding down A but just moving the analog stick forward/only pressing W.

I also have a G-sync monitor and while G-sync works great most of the time, sadly, the horseback walking animation is screwed. Try it for yourself. While on Roach, just press W to make Roach walk and not run. The camera will auto-center and the animation will skip every second or so. G-sync can't cover crazy stuff like that. "Normal" framerate drops do indeed get masked by G-sync and it sure does look amazing. I'm really enjoying it in TW3, sadly that horseback walking stutter exists.

Edit: Googled and first hit: http://forums.cdprojektred.com/threads/37068-Stutter-when-riding-horse-at-walking-speed

I tried the reddit fix but it didn't help. Something is off... Maybe it is a 980 GTX problem? Who knows... Very difficult to trouble shoot.

My 3570k throws fits on 4.4 GHz or higher. On 4.3 on air I've been rock solid.

3570k isn't 3.8 stock, it's 3.4 So you had it pretty highly OC'ed. at 4.4.

By the GPU not being an issue do you mean you don't have it overclocked?

Crashed on 4.2 as well. Trying 4.0 now :(

Are you getting hard locks or CTDs?

I know for me when I had my graphics card overclocked, this game was giving me hard locks pre-1.03. Lowered it and haven't had any problems.
It's possible both of your overclocks might be giving you issues.
