Well guys it finally happened. Finally washed my damn phone in the washing machine. Put a load of laundry in the washing machine and my brand new Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was in my jeans pocket. Feeling pretty bummed guys. Wouldn't even be that bad but the guy at Verizon Wireless talked me into trading in my Samsung Galaxy Note II when I got the new one so I don't have any damn cell phone at all now. I feel like a real bonehead.

It was fully submerged in the washing machine for at least a couple of minutes before I realized what had happened, so it didn't go through a full cycle or anything. It was off when I fished it out, and I've kept it off since then. I shaked it around and used a hair dryer and vacuumed it and now it's sitting in a plastic bag full of cat litter.

Just give it to me straight, guys. What are my odds here? Is there anything else i can do? 😦

Is cat litter some kind of new trick that works better than rice?

Other than that all you can do is hope, the next 24 hours mean everything. As long as you didn't try to turn it back on I doubt any serious damage may have happened.

The battery MAY be fucked though but I dunno.

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Man something about that bag being appropriately labeled is fucking hilarious to me.

You have a thing with electronics.. Lol

I have disassembled lots of phones because me kids left them in their pockets or they got wet outside. Fixed most of them.. But this os a brand new phone.. Ouch.

Not feeling good about this at all, thanks for the emotional support guys. I mean it would be one thing if this was an old phone, but this is a brand new flagship phone.

If the phone was off you may get away with it best of luck with that, however:

I was with up up to cat litter ?

That stuff looks fine grained and may get into hard to get out places in the phone ?

I guess you're doing the right thing - cat litter or rice. Do you have any accidental damage warranty on the phone? Maybe? I feel bad for you because that's some real bank.

It's one thing to drop it in water.... But an entire laundry cycle with soap? Godspeed.

Can you say someone stole it and have it replaced under insurance?

When I was still on Verizon, I put my 3-day old phone (an HTC Rezound, so hardly flagship, but still expensive) through the wash, and I wasn't able to save it even with the rice technique since the phone had been turned on at the time.

I had to pay full price for a new phone, and this was in the day before a wide variety of <$250 unlocked phones were available - ignoring the fact that such options don't really exist for Verizon. An expensive lesson learned - I now double and triple check that my phone is nowhere near the wash before I start a load.

Did you take the battery out? A friend of mine did something similar, we removed the battery, got it some rice for 72 hours. Shazam, good as new.

Even if it survives, you've lost your warranty protection.

I'd actually sell it and buy another one, if you get it working again.

I dropped an S3 in water. Immediately pulled the battery, left it in rice for a day.

It still works. My boy uses it.

isn't it waterproof or did samsung remove that as well?

That was only the S5 as far as I know.

A lot of people didn't like the flap for the port.

Girlfriend does that all the time with her phones/ipod, to the point where I buy a mandatory 5 pound bag of rice with every electronic purchase. Rice, hot ass sun, and 5 days. Guaranteed cure.

The water stains, however, are with you for life.
