There isn't really a metric anymore. Distribution and content has changed so much recently; the categorisation is much more fluid and therefore much less comparable.

Pretty much, its much harder to weigh in what should be considered and what not when there is alot grey areas. Its a pretty pointless argument cause games budget never guranteed how good it was.

Nope, but it's a holiday exclusive—and since we're talking about holiday lineups the 2015 lineup, it's the same exact thing.

So then why did you miss out content like Disgaea 5, Persona 5, Nobunaga's Ambition, Rime, The Tomorrow Children and Dragon Quest Heroes?

It's not that difficult. If it's a Microsoft exclusive, it's AAA.
Wut. I thought it was the Xbox fanbase's turn to have a persecution complex this gen.

Microsoft publishes and develops games of all shapes and sizes. It's not hard to see how a game Fable Legends is AAA while something like Kalimba is not, is it?

This is absolutely not true. The unified UI - what literally brings the whole package together was developed completely in-house. Under the hood this includes major systems such as campaign playlists, save file management, campaign management, user content management, and matchmaking systems, including both dedicated server and P2P code. And of course the UI for all these systems. They also completely manage multiplayer playlists and their settings in-house as well.

Thats not true. The Ui was done by United Front :)

GopherD dropping bombs is best GopherD. :)

Next week? Bombs will be dropped next week. Verendus has already hyped us up for the weekend. GopherD will bring us home. Demonnite, where's a gift or 3? We need them

I hope everything stays as is i.e. no major leaks.

Gopher usually has a cryptic post with numerous intetpretations. Demon's gifs are just hype gold. Things will be just about the same

I don't think Fable Legends is AAA, no. But this isn't persecution of anyone. I was questioning the evolution of "Sony has no games" argument was coming from. I could care less if you're a MS, Nintendo, Sony, PC, 3DO, Sega fan. I was happy that MS was the top selling system for April because I like competition.

Perhaps to some people :p

Anyways, I personally want to see more non AAA studios from Microsoft such as Press Play and Twisted Pixel.
Because of the faster Development times, I think these kind of studios can offer a lot of diversity to buffer out a first party line up that is so chalk of staple franchises like Halo, Gears, and Forza

So where do you draw the line for AAA then? Are games like Smite or Neverwinter AAA? How about LOL or Dota? Do you believe a F2P game can be AAA?

"See the greatest games lineup in Xbox history"
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/e3

Should be interesting to see if they can live up to those words.

I will give you that. I'd like to move my goal post from my original comment to say that I meant MS is quiet in that they don't have anyone (except Stinkles) to tease the forum and keep the interest level.

What? Their Twitter PR is working nonstop for a couple of months already.
Sony & Nintendo are the quiet ones.

Fine...numerous tweets means confidence.

I think when a game is going for a premium Hollywood budget, that's AAA. Money you can make it rain with.

I'm not one to say AAA is the best ever though. I dunno. I'm just a forum dweller! My opinions are stupid.

Fair enough. I was just curious...don't expect you to have an exact definition because I sure don't.

I still don't think that constitutes anything but being quiet. We don't know anymore than what we've speculated for months.

What would it mean for them to be making noise to you? It's not like they're going to announce games through Twitter. So all they can do is what they are doing by hyping it through tweets. You aren't getting any of that from Sony. Go to Yoshida or Adam Boyes or Gio Corsi's twitter accounts. They've tweeted about the theaters that you can watch their conference at and Adam tweeted that the official E3 account followed him. That's it from them. No developers, whether they be big or indie, are saying that they'll be at Sony's conference. It really is near complete silence on their end about E3.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! Is this about verendus?

Ok, to sidestep the AAA definitions for a bit.

What three indie games are gaffers looking forward to getting info the most for E3?

For me its Rime, Inside (don't own an Xbone-I hope this is timed!) and NMS.

MS is defintely talking a lot about E3 compared to the other two. But all the talk has been hollow. I want some mwgaton/gigaton talk from insiders.

Not exclusive to him. You have Gopherd and Demonite as well to keep things interesting.

Rime isn't indie.

Probably Cuphead, Below and NMS for me.

Fuck guys. This argument at it's core is all about how we define just what is an 'exclusive' and whether we can consider a game meaningful or not. Everyone is trying to change the definition of exclusive to suit their argument and it leads to us running around in circles every time.

Who's right or not can only be argued if we separate the definition of 'exclusive' in to different categories. Because everyone is using different definitions and it's leading discussion to become a mess.

- Every 2015 exclusive including digital releases and remasters

- All 2015 retail exclusives including 3rd party and remasters

- All 2015 retail exclusives including 3rd party excluding remasters

- All 2015 1st party retail exclusives

- All 2015 1st party retail exclusives that are only on PS4/XBO (Yes, this excludes TLOU:R and MCC since they're both counted as remasters, and Forza Horizon 2 & Rise of the Tomb Raider since they're both playable on 360)

Well, which one is it? Set your goalposts firmly, damn.

Well... Verendus' most recent tease wasn't even about this E3. Don't think Demonite has mentioned anything regarding this E3. And GopherD has only given a vague tease at best involving MS/Sony/EA.

So MS is quiet because the insiders and the leakers (whom MS can't control) are quiet?

Can someone hype me, as someone who has never played a Persona game and knows literally nothing about it other than it's a JRPG with schoolkids, up for Persona 5?

People talk about the series like it's the second coming of video game christ.

Can we please get separate conference threads soon. I've always loved lurking GAF pre-E3, as the excitement is outright contagious, and it makes for a fantastic experience.

All of these list-wars and argumentative crap are just toxic however.

Edit: It also feels like there's been very little Nintendo and Microsoft discussion/hype in this thread also, at least in comparison to Sony-talk. Horizon hype is beautiful, but where's all the Scalebound + Star Fox love and speculation at?

Off the top of my head...

  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Forza Motorsport 6
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Gears of War: Ultimate Edition
  • Fable Legends

PS4 has Uncharted Collection... and I think that's it?

edit: Should've read your post better! Thought you were referring to the holiday lineup, not the entire year. So obviously include Bloodborne in the above.

Ori should be considered (if people count No Man's Sky for PlayStation).

State of Decay should be considered (if people count God of War 3 for PlayStation).

I'd also make a case for the expandalone Forza Horizon Fast & Furious tie-in. It did have new content, it had achievements, and not being facetious, but it lasted longer than a lot of indie's I've played.

Not allowed. Separate threads often become insular and devolve into boring hype trains.

They sure sounds confidence to me, especially Spencer.

Xbox definitely has the best AAA Holiday lineup this year. I still don't understand why people argue about that. First brand new Halo game since 2012. Sequel to the best Tomb raider ever. A new Fable game. GoW Collection. And if that wasn't enough, there will be a sequel to the best racing stimulator this generation, Forza 6.

Plus whatever unannounced surprises left in store for E3

Is there anyone arguing that at all?

There might be people saying they would rather play Witness, Rime, No Man's Sky and Tearaway than those games. I certainly would. But I don't think there's a person on earth who would argue that MS doesn't have the most viable games for the general public.
