Do a bunch of stuff, unlock the ability to fly in Draenor.

Mastering the Outdoor World

In an upcoming Public Test Realm build, we will be introducing a new meta-achievement called Draenor Pathfinder. You’ll earn this achievement in Patch 6.2 by mastering the outdoor environment of Draenor—exploring Draenor’s zones, collecting 100 treasures in Draenor, completing the Draenor Loremaster and Securing Draenor achievements, and raising the three new Tanaan Jungle reputations to Revered. Initially, this achievement will award a rylak mount: the Soaring Skyterror, one of the native beasts that roam Draenor’s skies. Players will remain ground-bound on Draenor until a small follow-up patch (6.2.x), when all players who have earned Draenor Pathfinder on at least one character will unlock the ability to fly in Draenor on all their level 90+ characters.

Eh. I'm done with WoW forever, so I have no horse in this race, but I liked this change. Disappointing to see them fold, but I guess there are potentially millions of dollars at stake.

Welp, they ruin the game.
The world feels so big because of no flight.
You have to explore, and figure out where to go...now it is back to flying to point A to B and skipping everything in between.

So....holding flight hostage until you've done pretty much all the content?

I'm pro-flying, but that seems like a lot of hoops to jump through, unless they ease up on how easily you can rep-grind.

I suppose they want people to get out of their garrisons, though.

I don't see the problem.

Make it truly a reward and you actually feel like you earned it. This is how many of the old mounts were achieved.

they always do this shit. can't these fuckers just let us enjoy flying from the get go. every expansion it is the same bullshit of having to hit the cap and purchasing a license. let me purchase the license and fly right away.

A good compromise.

Anyone who's whining about flight coming back (albeit with requirements in order to do so) can go eat cake.

IIRC, didn't they originally intend to flight be earned on WoD before they decided on no flight?

I was really proud of Blizzard sticking to their guns on no-flying. They've made a lot of mistakes with WoW in recent years, but no-flying gave me hope that they'd be able to change things and rekindle my love for the game.

Kind of disappointing for me, but it's unlikely that they were ever going to recreate the world that I was so immersed in anyway. This is one less reason to keep hoping, and that's probably for the best.

Yup. Not even a month ago Ion (lead WoW dev) stated they have decided against adding flight to Draenor.

Then the customers raged. Subs continued to drop.

Today, flight is coming to Draenor!

Never underestimate the power of General Forums. (or the decline in sub numbers)

It's every thing that flying would trivialize, including the reps.

Hardly. World PVP was alive and well even with battlegrounds. Camping leveling zones, having them call their guildmates and friends, us calling ours, wrecking villages and waging 4+ hour battles over tiny towns.

Happened well after battlegrounds. But flight killed that.

WoD is easily the worst expansion they've put out so far. Everything about this thing is a mess. Glad I quit a couple months back.

i was never crazy about the mounts, but some people like to do the achievements. it was a little different when you couldn't buy 310 speed and had to earn it with a meta achievement. at least then there was something separating them.

I was leveling to 60 when BGs were introduced, and world PvP certainly wasn't dead, even on my PvE server. I have plenty of world PvP memories from Vanilla.

The "fun" is in the immersion. It's in creating a world where half of the players are your enemies and there's no obligation to fair play.

Fucking spineless. They probably need to come up with something for higher management to say they've done something to retain subs, who actually stopped playing because the expansion honeymoon phase is over.

It really is.

Aside from the insane daily quest grind at the start of MoPand how long SoO lasted, MoP was a pretty awesome xpack.

I mean, earning it, sure, but this is pretty blatant in its efforts to 'make you see' all the content. Find 100 treasure? Go hit all the quests in a region? I admit that I've never been looking towards fulfilling any of the loremaster achievements, which is probably causing some bias, but this doesn't sound exciting, it sounds....boring. Especially with 3 rep grinds to have to fulfill.

I'm not inherently opposed to the concept of earning flying, but this isn't really 'earning it' in the sense of unlocking it. It's going and doing a what's likely to be a bunch of busy work, especially if it persists across any future expansions.

At some level, it all comes down to busy work, but this isn't the same as raid mounts or w/e.

Plus, flying's a lot less 'tangible' than a new mount, especially when players have already had access to it for a huge chunk of the game's life.

Bad decision, terrible expansion.
Was the last one I've played after 10 years.

No sense of PvP balancing(although I understand you can't balance a game involving stats and percentage based stuff,but come on...)
Flying = Cya world PvP.

Same PvE content since the expansion released.

Half of your skills removed or bound to a spec.(Happened before WoD, I know)

Garrisons. By far the worst thing they've come up with seeing the outcome. People are only there, or in their "city" in Ashran. But hey! There's a portal to it, so you won't ever seen the world again.

And now, flying will return, which is bad. Makes the world much smaller and uninteresting. And you have to a silly farm-fest achievement for it, rofl.
if they truly wanted it to be something to be earned, they should've made a Warlock green fire questline thingy to it. Now that was a challenge, and hey, it was fun too!

As an explorer (see Deadmines secret, Quel'Thalas etc.), I find this quite interesting. The classic style of exploration is of course nice, but flying allows for a bit more.

This may sound weird but I recently resubbed because I had heard that flying would be going away for good.

Thanks for caving to the vocal minority Blizzard. Appreciate it. Not really, though.

When the hell is Blizzard gonna do the Emerald Dream expansion or the Sargeras one? I quit back in WotLK but even Cataclysm and MoP tempted me a little. Was so uninterested in all the Garrosh focus lately and going back to Draenor.

Boo. No flight was the only thing this expansion had going for it. Seriously, fuck flying. Straight up ruined the game.
