Halo |OT 24| In Before the Locke

I need a canonical reason for this voice change. So do the IV augmentations slowly cause an alteration in the fluctuation of the vocal folds? 343 pls respon

Actually in the Director's Cut of Nightfall he got his voice box ripped out by Jason Statham who was playing an overweight Grunt scribe at the time.

The Locke voice performance in the Campaign demo wasn't great so I don't know if it's much of an improvement if that's the case.

And wouldn't it lessen the benefit of the facial capture (generally doing the VA at the same time)?
But I suppose they did the same with Cortana in 4.

lol I brought up the Locke voice change in the RH facebook chat to the other guys and I still tried to defend that it was Colter. Maybe they did pull a James Earl Jones/David Prowse thing and decided that Locke's voice just wasn't what they wanted.

We need a Juggernaut variant where the leader gets Active Camo, a Plasma Caster and a Prophet's Bane and switches to third-person.

Alternatively, make it Infection and the Last Man Standing turns into Arnie.

I have gotten accustomed to the new designs already.

It's funny how immensely attached we get to fictional objects (I totally get it). Just look at the outrage from Star Wars fans when they revealed a light saber has a hilt. I just don't know what the purpose is behind drastic changes to beloved designs.

I suppose it's like musicians changing their style or genre because it allows them to enjoy music again. Art is somewhat of a selfish expression.
I'd say music is a different issue.

I can understand why people would be upset with design changes (especially when they are beloved) because consistency is am important part of creating a story and a universe. If you keep on changing things without explanation it's hard to really say is and isn't anymore. It feels lazy and insulting to something that you enjoyed.

The Lightsaber with a hilt is a different case. As far as I know, that isn't a retcon or flimsily excused design change. It's just a design for a new lightsaber. With stuff like the entire Covenant and their equipment, these changes are usually drastic and are either not explained within the universe (or in reality) or they are excused with gems such as "firmware upgrades to you suit".

the elite controller has me thinking i'll be changing up my control scheme greatly (its been bumper jumper since halo 3). hell, i may even use a dedicated button to ADS - unless this no longer gives an advantage in the final game. updates on this Josh?

I bet you'll set all 4 of your paddles to toggle crouch

wtf that Ghost redesign
H5-Guardians-Warzone-ARC-Ghost-Ride.jpg

The one thing I don't like about this is is that the player's head is below the hood. It reminds me of the Halo 3 Video where they talk about the Chopper. Originally there was a canopy over the back of the Chopper pilot. It got removed fairly early on. One of the quotes on the reasoning behind the removal was "From the front, don't mess with me; from the back, take it out." The Ghost always had that tiny amount of the player's head sticking up so that way an opposing player can still take it out while it boosts at the player.

I love it. Love the Banshee design too.

I wonder if Colter does the campaign voice and then the other guy does his voice in terminals or something - or vice versa. Or maybe they just used Colter's likeness and this Amadi? guy does the voice work. Professional VA is hard - even for live action actors.

Really great points. You are most definitely correct. When we get invested in a universe and things get arbitrarily changed it makes it feel like a product instead of a believable universe. It feels insulting or disrespectful.

spartan ops didnt work, but firefight should be a given. sad :(

I'm happy with Warzone over Firefight and Spartan Ops. Firefight is fun for a while, but it gets pretty repetitive after playing on each map more than a couple times. Any waved based mode is like that for me though, they lack longevity. Spartan Ops I've been playing recently doing the solo legendary run and it's pretty bad experience unless your in a party. Warzone being a multiplayer mode can last a whole lot longer, while it's not a singleplayer experience I still rather play something like that alone than play Spartan Ops/Firefight alone.

Can't wait to wear the new N̶i̶g̶h̶t̶f̶a̶l̶l̶/̶H̶e̶l̶l̶J̶u̶m̶p̶e̶r̶ ODST armor

Can't wait to do this in game for the first time:

In Capture the Flag, players will now be able to use the following Spartan Abilities while holding the flag – Clamber, Ground Pound and Thrust. Holmes said that when a player attempts a Ground Pound with the flag, they will perform a unique spearing animation that will be pretty rewarding if the player manages to land a kill with it.

I'm fine with minor redesigns as long as they keep the distinct silhouette for everything.

Both the Banshee and the Ghost are still very clearly Banshees and Ghosts. I think the current designs look great. Especially the banshee, that thing looks awesome.

On the subject of CTF, I have no problem with the Flagnum, I just wish it only happened when you actually have a magnum/pistol as one of your weapons. If you have rockets and an AR you shouldn't pull out a secondary weapon with the flag.

My complaint was always that they were changing things with an established look and no explanation—Chief's armor, the Dawn. Beyond that, everything takes place four or five years after the war, I'm fine with new weapons and new designs.

The Ghost gets shredded by bullets and isn't exactly a great offensive vehicle to begin with, so it'll probably be fine.

On the discussion of the redesign, I actually like them more the more I see them.

I fucking told you they changed the voice actor! Hahaha knew it was different.

It had to be different. All of a sudden everyone said he did a solid job on the 'all hail the conquering hero' commercial. But if you saw Nightfall or the H2A cutscenes, Colter while a good actor, and handsome looking guy, didn't have that solid voice that you need particularly for voice over work.

When you have some of the industry's best with Keith David, Jennifer Hale, Steve Downes, John DiMaggio, you're going to seem amateurish. I wonder when or why they decided to change his voice actor up?

No Firefight, huh? Awesome.

I remember back when each Halo game kept adding new features while also keeping the ones from the previous games. That was the worst. We are lucky 343 came along to save us from that hell.

Yeah, where's my armor lock?

Yeah immortalized forever in one of the most popular video game IP's in history. Unlike Chief, his entire face has been modeled perfectly. I don't think he would even care, because most will just assume it is Colter too. This is a nice side job for him, he looked badass on those leaked photos of him as Luke Cage on the motorcycle.

Edit: you just know little kids for the next 5-10 years are gonna be like damn you're Spartan Locke when they see him.
