Yeah, and I even knew the answer to my own question before I posted it. I was just lonely.
Listen to some Nick Cave to get those lonely blues away.

Gloss is a dust and scratch magnet
Matte > gloss
Really disappointing that Sony didn't improve the HDD size.
But I actually like that they did away with the glossy finish. Matte is cheaper, but I'll take cheap instead of scratches everywhere.
What is funny, is that Microsoft did exactly the same with their recently announced 1TB XBO.
A 1 TB Ps4 is coming............
20W saving is pretty big for just memory chips?
Pointless, I'll buy a second PS4 when the real hardware revision comes.
So, die shrink?
Similar for me. If I were crazy well off I'd be lining up for this just for that. Hell, its worth seriously considering after everything else important and higher on the "for fun" list is dealt with since I can give mine to my brother or something. The glossy scratches real easy. I put it in my suitcase with clothes and it's got mini scratches and not as glossy now.
But it's the old model, not this revised one.
230w is the new maximum wattage, but it never gets anywhere near that. I think Killzone pushes the original PS4 to around 140w.
[...] But I'll likely wait for the cooler/quieter model before considering an upgrade.
Shame that current HDD bay covers won't be compatible with the new model.
Banned site I think.
Wait, why would this be the case?
Shocked they announced this and the 1tb model right before Batman bundles.
That seems real dumb.
Its far from pointless.Pointless, I'll buy a second PS4 when the real hardware revision comes.
Why?
Today Ars Technica reported that the PS4 uses 70W of energy while in StandBy mode, then correcting the statement, mentioning that standby energy consuption is just 10W, while it becomes 70W when the console is performing a download while in low-power state.
Such a radical power consumption increase while downloading surprised many, but the reason was actually explained a few days ago by Sonys Senior Vice President and head of Business Unit 1 Masayasu Ito as part of an interview with the Japanese website PC Watch.
Ito-san explained that initially Sony attempted to have background download performed exclusively by the secondary sub-system ARM chip (as it was announced during the consoles presentation in February), in order to keep the main APU powered down, but that proved not to be fully possible.
The download process is too heavy for the ARM chip alone, so the Jaguar-based CPU of the main APU (Accelerated Processing Unit, that includes CPU and GPU) is called into action to do the heavy lifting and protocol processing.
That causes the power saving effect of the ARM chip to be diluted during that kind of heavier activity. While this is the situation with the present design, Ito-san specified that it could change with further iterations of the consoles design.

Loving the white one. I hope it's either bundled for $399, or sold separately for $349.
The glossy cover looks nice, but like others have said, scratches way too easily. I dusted mine a couple months after owning it with an Apple microfiber cloth (probably the softest material I own), and it's got hairline scratches on it.
I'm interested in a full tear down as well. Improving the WiFi chip would be a huge plus. But I'll likely wait for the cooler/quieter model before considering an upgrade.

I wonder if they used the opportunity to fix the PS4's secondary processor.
/edit: article is from a banned site, and I cannot find an alternative source. But the Japanese primary source cited in this article is legit: http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/column/kaigai/20131029_621310.html
I wonder what shitty ARM core they must have used, if it cannot process a HTTP(S) transfer.
White and matte? I think I want that.
It's the main reason I got a matte 4GB Xbox 360 Slim instead of the fully gloss 250GB model.
Hate my Wii U for this reason and any kitchens with glossy worktops.
They do already but literally all of them look like shit. Unless you like video game logos and key art.
I'm totally buying the white one
Mechanical buttons and superior colors
Woo
You mean they sell entire PS4 consoles with different promotional covers. I haven't seen them sell HDD bay covers by themselves. But yeah, most of them haven't been good anyway.
Holy, mechanic buttons? Where is that said?
But yeah, the white matte is so completely superior. That's the one for me.
So, related question.
With people now buying a new PS4 to replace their existing ones, what are the safest and sure fire methods to retain P.T. from console to console?
To wait for this or get the standard Batman bundle for £279.99 to go alongside my XB1, seems a good time to get a PS4 at the mo, chopping in my New 3DS as not using it as much as I thought I would along with a couple of XB1 games, but I do like the idea of an updated model.
I am sort of in the same situation (US). What to do? I have the Arkham Limited Edition PS4 on the way tomorrow from Amazon (Thank gawd for trade in credit!). I like the CUH-1200 matte black and the white is fresh as well.
1.) Arkham Limited Edition - 500GB/Gunmetal
Or assuming these make their way out west...
2.) CUH-1200 - 500GB/Matte black or white not sure yet.
3.) Ultimate Players Edition - 1TB/Glossy back and matte black
Maybe Sony releases a combination 1TB/Matte black or white model in the West?
Edit: Nice camera shot!
Man I really hope this comes to NA in a standalone deal, or maybe bundled (in volume) with a game or two like they've done with the TLOU bundle. Really want one of these. The Destiny bundle doesn't seem to be so cheaply available anymore when new, and I'd prefer buying new for warranty etc.
