Based on conjectural evidence.

1. They already have an engine, UE4.

2. They already have a developer hard at work on it, CC2

3. They want it to be out by the 2017 anniversary

4. Nomura and friends have learned their development lessons hopefully

Yo thanks for the advice guys, good shit. :) I'm gonna play FFX and use that to judge whether or not she'll be mature enough to handle VII. X will probably be her favorite either way, her favorite songs on Theatrythm were To Zanarkand and Suteki Da Ne by far.

Excited! Will probably make an LTTP thread for FFX since it'll be my first time playing through it as well.

As for VII's development, my bet is either late 2017 or early 2018 release for all the reasons listed above. Nomura's an experienced director, if he isn't losing his guys every ten seconds to other projects I'm sure it'll be fine.

Nothing has been officially confirmed that they are working on the VII remake. We know CC2 has 3 titles in development. Yes, they said they'd LIKE to work on it but they never said they WERE, OFFICIALLY, on the title.

If I recall correctly, this hasn't beem said at all and has been entirely conjenctural on the communities part. Verendus has even said that they do not want to rush the game. It'd be cool if they could make that date but I don't want anything to be affected by time constraints. They could take 4-5 years if they need to. Just make sure the game is complete.

regarding CC2... recently they announced 3 projects they were working on

The first unannounced title they're working on will be on Unreal Engine 4 targeting a worldwide audience. Other keywords associated with it are "large scale development", "photo real", and "physically based rendering".

The unannounced title is also RPG, so I think it could fit the description of FF7 remake.

...

On God, I hope so. After seeing how good Kingdom Hearts 3 looks, I want Square to capitalize on the time savings of not building their own tech. Perhaps there are elements of FFXV which couldn't be done in UE4, so with that game excepted, I wish they'd just crank up their output and creativity even at the expense of art quality. Have we heard anything about Star Ocean using UE?

Imagine if FFVII had to look like Gears of War due to the engine choice, with roided up characters and all.

Engine choice doesn't dictate an art style. The fact this misconception is still being thrown around is rather disappointing.

Guilty Gear Xrd is faithful to the original 2D sprite based games and is on Unreal 3.

Unreal 4 is even more flexible then the previous iteration.

Does Kingdom Hearts III based on the trailer and current gameplay footage not look like a Kingdom Hearts game? Guess what engine it runs on.

That's why its conjecture. But i'd just about put money on that's who is making the game. SE doesn't have the resources with all the projects they are working on, and they are already pretty successful at outsourcing to other Japanese devs like Platinum, Omega force and the like. CC2 would not be out o order at all considering their work on FF7 G-Bike already and their large scale technical investigation into UE4

The only thing unproven with CC2 is as far as I know they never developed a large scale RPG along the likes of FF7, I mean sure they did both the .hack// series on the PS2, and they have the awesome looking Anime fighters.

Maybe with the proper direction they are capable of doing so. I guess we'll find out more details if CC2 is indeed involved with FF7:R come this Winter.

I think that's it. CC2 has had a large amount of potential in terms of development talent for greater things than simply anime licensed games IMO, but they've never been given a real drive to go out on a limb by Namco Bandai(outside of Asura's wrath) having been stuck reiterating on the same concepts since the beginning of 7th gen and even before, i think they are itching for a new challenge it seems like, just based on their public comments

As if it hasn't already been posted in this thread or elsewhere on GAF recently, the Final Fantasy VII Technical Demo for PS3:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVCYy8C5Av4

Looking at it and comparing with the new FF7:R trailer, the newer remake unsurprisingly looks better.

Of course I'd expect a PS4 CGI trailer to look better then a tech demo on the PS3.

Winter is so far off, I want to see more FF7:R Footage.

I hope they recreate the first 5 minutes of FF7 in the Remake style just to show off how much things have improved since the PS3 Tech Demo.

Wait, is CyberConnect2 developing this or are Square Enix handlin g this internally?

When gaming sites started to leak that the FFVII remake was in development, one of the sites said that CyberConnect2 was co-developing. The remake part was obviously confirmed, but the part about CyberConnect2 remains a rumor for now.

But that seems like a name pull for a developer.

If so, those who are begging for command based combat will all be disappointed as the team that developed the Naruto games, Asuras Wrath, and .hack is a fan of Action-based MMO combat.

.hack gameplay footage for reference.

CyberConnect2's Resume.

It's also possible that CC2 (if truly involved) is only handling specific aspects of the game, i.e. world map/mini-games/etc. I wouldn't expect them to be carrying the bulk of development of the entire remake... but who knows?

I could easily see FFXV and even KHIII dev members transitioning to the VII:Re project next year as those productions start wrapping up.

In addition to that...

Until now, whenever we talked with Nomura about a project that would require outsourcing, his first choice was always Cyber Connect 2" said Final Fantasy VII director, Yoshinori Kitase, in an interview with Weekly Famitsu. Kitase explained that while Square Enix generally focused on making RPGs, they were not as adept at making action games, whereas Cyber Connect 2 was quite seasoned in the making of action games as well as captivating production.

Does anyone here know of a FFVII video walkthrough/LP where the player goes through every possible NPC/party member interaction in each town? I'm particularly looking for a clip of when the group visits Costa De Sol for the first time.

There's a ton of optional conversations with the party members that you can skip right over by leaving the town. I want to find a video that shows them all.

FF7R is action MMO confirmed.

I still think the second MMORPG venture by Square Enix should've been a sci-fi FF one. Not counting DoC Online, but it would've been interesting if FFXIV was set in a more sci-fi-is FF world that took inspiration from FFVII and FFVIII rather than yet another medieval one. And I'm saying this as a medieval FF fan. I loves the variety.

I definitely agree, very strong art direction so far.

I can't wait for this winter so we can get a good look at the characters themselves.

They should at least show Cloud and Barret.

So on the subject of FF as a whole, my sister is coming over to visit soon with her kids and I want to introduce her oldest daughter (7 y/o) to the series. I haven't played X yet and really wanted to play through it together with her - would you guys say it's relatively safe for kids? Also out of curiosity how old were you guys when you played VII?
My aunt introduced me to Final Fantasy through VIII when I was seven years old. It's a bright and colorful game with beautiful characters and stunning music. Doesn't really get into that same type of cynicism/darkness that VII has. It's not shocking, looking back, that I was too afraid of VII when I was eight years old and went for X instead. If you can, you should pick up IX and play multiplayer with her. :)

It's funny that you say that because that darkness and cynicism is what enraptured me as a child I think.

It's also probably why I was really into Batman The Animated Series.

On the subject of character designs. I have a bit of a peeve about putting anime-esque faces in realistic settings. Just give them some cheek bones, dammit!

Same. lol

Most of the stuff that drew me in as a child seemed to have a grungy bent to it.

Games like the FFV II Remake, FF XV, & KH III should run off of Unreal Engine 4, shouldn't they?

I hope they're using Unreal Engine 4.

Perhaps Ito will make good use of Luminous when he directs Final Fantasy XVI. *fingers crossed*
