Hmm, never watched the show so I have absolutely no idea about this game.

How's the anime?

Poor guy. Zhuge is merciless!

Obviously, I had to post in a locked dupe thread lol.

This is great news. I've been enjoying the new anime a lot and this lends itself well to a Musou format, though ideally, it could make a kickass Suikoden like RPG or even a Kessen/Bladestorm format.

I'm assuming Daryun will be the Lu Bu / Tadakatsu Honda of the game.

Jesus ZhugeEX! Did you just get that guy banned?

....

I think I might have... wow...!

But hey if you read the three kingdoms novel you know that Zhuge Liang can kill with words alone!

That was a little bit unnecessary man.

And we all know Sima Yi is the true winner in the end.

Yes, I'll be buying this on the X1, thanks Koei! I might even finally get a PS4 by that time, but I've generally preferred my gaming on Xbox systems since Sega disappeared from the hardware market I had the choice...

Really glad to see this making it over here in general, though. Koei's been translating EVERYTHING, and I really like how consistent they're being on that front.

This... really isn't true at all. Xbox systems get very unique Japanese games (Think Gunvalkyrie, Jetset Radio Future, Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Crimson Dragon, etc), and they usually get a few nice exclusives that either never show up on other systems, or come much later.

Please remember that when the tables were more even in the console wars, many people made friendships and bonds on the 360, even those that loved Japanese games. Not everyone dropped those bonds to jump ship to PS4 when first-year decisions showed it gaining traction. Considering how many Japanese-developed games landed first / exclusively on 360 last gen, it has been pretty annoying to miss out on so many JP games, especially when they're often getting once-unheard of PC ports too.

Any lover of Japanese games would have also observed that Japanese exclusives pretty much landslides toward the PS3 from 2010 onward and the 360's Japanese efforts were dead in the water. I honestly can't take anyone seriously if they came into this generation expecting the X1 to receive the same level of amount of Japanese games like the 360 did.

You've made a perfect valid explanation as to why you might prefer the XBOX platform and choose it over the PS4 for the time being ("friendships and bonds".) However, that's pretty much a non-answer to the question "Why would you buy an Xbox One to play Japanese games?"

That is unless you've been living under a rock since 2010.

It's awesome-- The first episode is more of a prequel to the rest of the story, but from episode two onward I could easily see why Koei selected this to make a musou game out of. It's a perfect fit.

Will defo buy this. I seem to just buy games by Koei nowadays but they do make my favourite games. has anyone played the Dragon Quest Warriors game as well? Is it worth getting? Never played Dragon Quest but I had never watched any Gundam and enjoyed the games koei made for them.

Hmm, reading about it, I'm definitely intrigued. Will keep an eye on game definitely.

Great news. I'm really enjoying the currently airing anime.

Can't wait to slay with Farangis.

Also I don't have any next-gen console being a PC gamer, so the PS3 port is very welcome.

Daryun always gave me Lu Bu vibes.

I wasn't aware this anime had any presence in the West at all. They'll localise anything these days.

The anime actually has quite good ratings in the anime fanbases in the WEST.. the anime is far from being over and there is material to animate..

The decision makes sense to me.
Strike the iron while it's hot. i mean better bring the game now than in 2 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if this do end up on PC though.

Yay!

This is why Koei is my favourite company in gaming right now!

Not sure why they think an Xbox One & PS3 port in the west is a good idea though haha.

Well, they will have the translation, PS3 will be most likely digital only I am guessing, PS4 Musou sales must be decent enough for them to go that route. Now, XBone is puzzling, but I am sure somebody crunched some numbers and figured they will sell enough in US/UK for it to count. Wonder if it's going to be digital only on Xbox as well.

Didn't the anime just barely come out this year? lol I didn't think Koei would even make a game based on this anime. Well hopefully it gets an english dub once it comes out to the west.

I'm sure he was banned for being an alt though. Not what I said. Literally a user the other day was banned for saying the same thing, hence why I bought it up. Its been happening in the npd thread a lot.

I'm pretty sure I was joking.
I don't actually believe you can kill people by talking.

I haven't started the new Anime yet, but considering KoeiTecmo brought FOTNS Musou out in the US... I think they're the kinda company that brings games to any size fandom, and I rather love that about them. They'll help grow a brands awareness, and not just piggyback off established popularity. They bring out a lot I'm sure other publishers would skip over.

... Like I said, Xbox gets a lot of fresh, unique Japanese games, and even going into this gen, the system was getting it's first Kingdom hearts, and had original games like Crimson Dragon, Dead Rising 3 and D4, which aren't necessarily appearing on any other consoles.

They had some nice relationships with publishers coming out of 360 (Such as with Treasure and SNKP, old Team Ninja, even 5bp and Cave).

Add to that that half of what PS4 got that I found interesting (even with a PS3, I don't care about the Uncharted series, Resistance, GoW, etc), also had a Vita version, or even a PS3 one, and I think that's all enough reason. There was little reason to think things like Street Fighter 5 would be skipping the X1, especially when it was the first of it's gen that had a fight stick and new fighter out.

I still don't think it'll feel right playing Shenmue on a Sony system, heh.

Wait, was this what their countdown was for? I thought it wasn't Warriors.

no, the countdown is for something Koei Tecmo JP is going to announce

this is a localization announcement by Koei Tecmo EU/NA

not to mention we still have 6 days left on the countdown

I don't know wether to be more surprised at there being an Xbox One version or that it's getting localised to the west, lol.

Bro its time to move on and admit that the Xbone is not going to get the japanese support the PS4 is getting. If you want japanese games get a PS4.

I loved this as a kid but can't remember anything about it lol. Gonna watch the anime once it's all finished. The character designs seems so strange to me as well. Which one is Daryun and what have they done to Pharangeese?

Anime Moose? Provided there are much more characters than shown in the trailer, I'm interested.

There will be more playable characters. Presumably all of the main hero characters will be playable. In addition to the four shown in the trailer, Gieve and Farangis have been announced.

The game also has a new musou gimmick where you can have an entire army attack the enemies on-screen!

Watching the trailer I was somewhat reminded of Kingdom, which Im reading at the moment.

Never heard of this game before, but it does look promising!

Why would you buy an Xbox One to play Japanese games?

That's like buying a dvd player to play blu rays only.

Because he has one?

Anyway I'm surprised this is getting a game so soon, it doesn't even have an anime adaption yet, correct?

Very true, it was abundantly clear at Square's Presser at E3.

Best anime I've watched in some time, will buy.

Wait what? I must have missed it completely, was this recent?

The writing has been on the wall for quite a while. Unless he bought one at launch but that is the risk of being a early adopter. Japanese games are not going to be on Xbone in large amounts.

I mean. The mod Kagiri and I have had a discussion on these lines in quite a few threads now. I speak from a retail perspective, she has discussions with the companies and also from other sources.

The audience that bought 360s to play Japanese games last generation has effectively ceased to be on the Xbox platform. Which is understandable, because right from the get go this time around, Xbox has shown that they will not be getting the larger unique Japanese titles that they had last generation. A lot of that is more to do with the fact that the Japanese publishers saw the games that they released on the 360 didn't really do that well, and when they ported them to the PS3, they were outsold there, even with late ports. Not only that, the Japanese game presence effectively died after 2010 on the 360.

Now we see the Japanese publishers tripping over themselves to release PS4 versions of games in the west, and the few titles being made for both systems (PS4 and XB1) vastly favor the PS4 version. Our current preorders for games coming on both, like KH3 and FFXV have preorder numbers for the XB1 that are frankly not worth talking about. The deals to bring those two games were made before the systems released, and since the generation has begun, the Japanese game support on the XB1 has been almost nil. I would not expect that to change.

And none of the people in this thread have said anything to imply that we're actively supporting them not bringing the games to the system, it's not a console wars kind of thing. It's more just objectively considering the facts of what's on the table at this point.

I don't play Uncharted, Resistance, etc. I'm not really interested in any of Sony's Western exclusives. But Sony platforms are the only place to count on a major array of JRPG support for a home console, and for more diverse options in a handheld (My Vita is a fiend for JRPGs).

Japanese Games are practically non existent on Xbox One. If you're planning to buy alot of japanese games you're better off just getting a PS4 or PS Vita.

Exactly this.

I think a lot of people got the wrong idea with my original post. I'm not against the game coming to Xbox One or other consoles. In fact its a good thing for consumers as it provides more choice.

However, from a business point of view I just dont see why its on Xbox in the west and even PS3 to some extent.

I've followed Koei for a very long time and can tell you right now that the Xbox One version just won't sell much, especially when you consider this is a niche game in the first place that wont see many sales on any platform in the west.

I think Koei have made a mistake by listening to the vocal minority on social media. There have been some people complaining about lack of Xbox version in the west over recent koei games and I think that through facilitated discussion between Koei Europe and Japan we now have more games coming to the west on xbox. Koei seem to have forgotten the reason they stopped Xbox in the first place though, because no one buys it. So not sure why they"re experimenting with that again. No doubt in 2017 we'll see no Xbox games from Koei when they realise it was a loss for them.

What if MS is shelling out money to them?

Japanese publishers should do kickstarter for Xbox one ports to measure the interest for their games on that platform instead of taking risks porting games for the sake of the vocal minority. The fans should vote with their money .
