Oh, hey, Neoriceisgood. Remember me? :p

4 Color Rebellion has a ton of Pokemon brain-exploding things.

- Rotom and Team Galactic are a tribute to Pulseman.
- The interior of Goldenrod City's gym looks like a Clefairy when viewed from above.
- Venonat looks exactly like Butterfree's head.
- Pikachu, a mouse, is number 25. Meowth, a cat, is number 52, which is 25 backwards. :p That's probably why Team Rocket has a Meowth.
- Hitmonchan, the punching Pokemon, is number 107, and Little Mac from Punch-Out is 107 pounds.
- Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres have the Spanish words for one, two, and three in their names.

That page also has the Cubone image that was already leaked. Is this a case of GAF > Internet > GAF? Sorry if this was all posted before. :p

Did anyone else think that the yellow triangle was Aghanim's face?

I can happily say that I always saw Agahnim's face the correct way

No kidding, I don't know how people thought this "other face" made sense.

But all of these shops are bringing me very close to not being able to unsee it. Gotta bail out! :lol

My mind is blown at all the people who missaw Aganhim. I mean seriously. How did you not see his head under the yellow headband?

Frankly, I always thought he looked like Abis Mal from The Return of Jafar. (In the game, not the artwork)

I saw him as pokey-faced for a long time. The band's colour really jumps out, his real face is rather small and oddly-centered, and let's be honest, most of us were playing on pretty crummy TVs via RF connection, so the sprite was fuzzy as hell.

And since Link to the Past predates Return of Jafar by two years or so, I would have been long done with the game by the time Return of Jafar showed up to stank up Aladdin.

How exactly is that his head in the middle of his chest? I always figured it was a medallion of some sorts. I even remember fighting him and having side views of him shooting his shit at you. His arms would be about mid-level to his body, not way above his head. I mean, aside from people on here saying that's a head, what other proof do you have? And if that is a head, that's by far the worst drawn sprite ever.

Are you seriously doubting that the "medallion" is his face?

Maybe you already realized this or this is common knowledge and thus this post is folly, but I was surprised the original post wasn't more specific.

I mean that, for the 3 legendary birds, their names are a description of their element and then the spanish number, i.e.:
Artic (arctic) + One
Zap + Two
Molt (as in molten) + Three

I impressed my mom back in the day by figuring those out, much to my satisfaction as she had already pointed out "ekans/snake" and that "pidgey" was just a bastardized version of "pigeon" to me.

Don't forget that we now all know that SMB3 was all just a play so clearly he would have required the cooperation of the koopas to put on such a play.

We.... do?

How did we learn this? I know there is a curtain at the beginning but I thought that was a graphical flourish. It says "New Game" there too, but I don't think that floating white Allcap text exists in the Mario universe either.

You are so late to this party man.

Earlier in the thread:

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Wrong again... THIS is how it is. The purple thing isn't his legs for fucks sake, anyone can understand that. It's part of his robe:

I'll grant you that, but I don't know if I'm entirely convinced by those points. Aren't these all a concession of art style? It's like saying Paper Mario didn't happen because he's a piece of paper.

It's not like there's an in-game reference to it in the end a la SMB2, right?

There's a curtain call.

It's no coincidence that several of the powerups take the form of costumes. It's a fairly consistent theme, though compelling game design reigns supreme. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that they chose the style simply to add visual interest without having to work out more detailed backgrounds. Make of it what you will.

I'm not sure the curtain calls directly relate to the shadows and rigging on platforms and the end of levels, it was all just a bit of flourish IMO. Particularly the end of level blackness, since in the NES version, the plants and platforms in that area were just white outlines. Then in world 8, you got to a level where everything was like that. So the end of level is like Mario journeying into the encroaching darkness from Bowser's kingdom. (It was strange, poor decision on their part to normalize the levels for All-Stars and beyond.)
