  1. [3DS] Yo-Kai Watch Busters: Red Cat Team / White Dog Squad: 1.360.582
  2. [3DS] Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer: 995.943
  3. [WIU] Splatoon: 640.380
  4. [3DS] Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King: 615.651
  5. [3DS] Yo-kai Watch 2: Shinuchi: 604.748

  8. [PS3] Dragon Quest Heroes: 453.142
  9. [3DS] The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D: 439.268
  10. [3DS] Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire: 405.640

2015 will last 53 weeks btw.

Looks like another Nintendo system dominated year in Japan, with Dragon Quest Heroes most likely dropping off the top 10 by the end of the year.

Dragon Quest VIII having a good launch despite the mobile version.
Yo-Kai Watch and Splatoon with the crazy holds
Nice to see Rhythm Heaven going back up.

With Digital is over 700k. :D
It will reach 1 million in japan alone.
To think that before it launched. My most positive guess before launch would have been 1 million WW end 2015.

I shudder at the thought of the squid romance option in the next fire emblem, then.

squid romance... option? Just make Splatoon emblem. No human option needed.
Might even be more successful than a certain other FE crossover

Roughly 5-6 weeks until the PS4 passes the WiiU launch aligned, and ~18-20 or so weeks until it does the same to PS3. Kinda crazy how much it has come back from its disastrous start
Amusingly PS4 will then fall back behind Wii U again due to staggered holiday launches. And then probably pass it again depending on how much DQ Builders pushes it this holiday. Should be a fun next several months aligned.

Yup, pretty good for a retail version of a F2P game.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that the game is at over 700K downloads already between PS4 and PC.
Still a much worse ratio than PSO2 Vita's 60-70k retail on ~500k downloads. I'm not really sure if DDO retail numbers are pretty good or not.

Splatoon still refusing to die. Amazing for a 3 month old Wii U game. Seems that Splatoon, YW Busters, and Happy Home Designer are going to be dominating the top 5 for a long time. Meanwhile, PS4 shaping up for MGSV.

My first prediction was 1.5 million WW lifetime, back in June 2014.
I never understand why people thought it was going to bomb... of course nobody expect this success, but i mean... o_O ... you know.

Funny, i change my prediction to 3 million before the game release, and now, i expect over 5 million. xD

Splatoon will probabily hit 3 million by end of year ( i expect 3,220,000, 600,000 in Q3 Jul-Sep, and 1,000,000 in Q4 Oct-Dec), and 1 million in both US and Japan.

previous mainline remakes sold better than VIIIr, but VIIIr still outsold some spinoffs
Almost. VIIIr is on track to outsell or already has outsold the GBC remakes, Wii I-III Collection and probably all the mobile conversions. Plus old conversions we don't have numbers for like the MSX ports. And the various versions of DQX too, although MMOs are a different beast.

It's also outperforming all the spinoffs except the Monsters subseries. Well ahead of Torneko, Slime Morimori, Yangus, Fortune Street, Swords, Theathrythm, Heroes and others. I bet Builders debuts behind it too.

What outside of MGSV, MHX and Persona might make the list?

Not for Famitsu, since you use numbers from them.

oh... i forgot the GBC remakes exist, and pretty sure combined Heroes sold more than VIIIr

^ If MGSV was this gen exclusive yes but with PS3 version existing I don't see as big boost. Personally predicting something like 50k for PS4 next week.

Most people who will buy ps3 version already have a PS3 ,i expect MGS5 to boost less then MGS4 but not because MGS5 is cross-gen

surely there is some love for Vita in Niigata prefecture :D

10./00. [PSV] Luminous Arc: Infinity <SLG> (Marvelous) {2015.08.06} (¥7.344) - 24.980 / NEW

That´s 4 weeks worth of data. under 25k units in four weeks must be really the lowest point of the series.

Luminous Arc 3, Dec.2009, LTD : 38k
platform : DS
systems sold : 25mln

Luminous Arc Infinity, Aug.2015, LTD : 25k
platform : Vita
systems sold : 4mln

clearly Vita is the problem...

SRPG games (besides FE) don't sell much these days though, so even if it's released on system with higher user base sale wouldn't change much.

Is it me or is this week actually pretty bad?
edit: software side I mean, and not focusing on DQ, which sales aren't particularly surprising

talking ytd not weekly sales

Oooh, okay.

Not seeing it

I mean, nothing is particularly good here. And software is very bad across the board if you're not the 3DS. Moving console hardware is great and all but software is the blood and its seemingly missing.

After MGSV, we're basically out of big releases for any console.

Is Persona 5 not a big deal in Japan?

I forgot P5, actually, lol.

None of those are a big deal except DQ:B, and we have no release date as far as I am aware.

You're right, that's why I'm interested in how they sell. If World of Final Fantasy can make it to like 250-300k on PS4 I think that'd pretty great, the thing is it's also on the vita and the game appears to suit a handheld more than a console. I think Star Ocean will do pretty well. Not anything huge though.

Woah. Aside from the mismatch in demographics, I don't think Final Fantasy is a strong enough brand for what is effectively Pokemon.

14. [PS4] Yoru no nai Kuni (combined) - 27pt

On the off chance someone has some insight on this, is Yoru no nai Kuni doing as great as COMG is insinuating? From the research I've done on past Gust games performance on COMG it seems like they all barely get any points before release (usually below 20). This game however has 74pts a month before it's released, not even counting the PS3 Skus.

Could this game be a big hit for Gust/Koei or do you guys think it'll fail to reach 100k LT like most recent Gust JRPGs?

Final Fantasy

Yes, one of those is a damaged brand and spin-off targeting a near non-existent demographic for the console. You put way to much stock in the "Final Fantasy" brand without questioning the product being offered.

The other is a massive (W)RPG targeting an existing and growing "core" demographic with somewhat western aligned sales tastes (which would be the people who were buying this console in the first place given the otherwise lacking software offerings early on).

Let's look at where the brand stood most recently:

First with a sequel (not exactly a spin-off) that targeted the demographic of the series even if the product was hot garbage on a considerably healthier console and population.
  • [PS3] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII <RPG> (Square Enix) {2013.11.21} (¥7.770) - 24.694 / 421.329 (277.082 <71,98%>)
Two remasters:
  • [PS4] Final Fantasy Type-0 HD # <RPG> (Square Enix) {2015.03.19} (¥7.344) - 92.094 / NEW <59,59%>
  • [PS3] Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster <Final Fantasy X \ Final Fantasy X-2> <RPG> (Square Enix) {2013.12.26} (¥7.140) - 114.025 / 299.944 (185.918 <80,93%>)
And, of course, a more properly demographic targeted spin-off game on a console with said demographic:
  • [3DS] Final Fantasy Explorers <RPG> (Square Enix) {2014.12.18} (¥6.264) - 210.869 / 210.869 (161.197 <72,54%>)
And Mobius sure as hell wasn't a sure-fire success just because the Final Fantasy brand was slapped on it.

I am not saying its impossible, but I don't see any indication of such a result especially given the misaligned demographics with a game that would have been better off and made more sense being on the Vita and 3DS than on the PS4 of all things. I'd say such numbers are a reach for the Vita.

Japanese publishers have been putting AAA money into making mobile games for a while now, but I was watching this trailer for World End Eclipse and it struck me how entire portions of the video are barely distinguishable from mid / big budget JRPGs of yore
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ItSo-cIirnw&hd=1&feature=youtu.be

I mean of course they try to obfuscate the mobage portions of the title, but as of late in some of these videos it's getting difficult to pinpoint the "yep that's mobile gaming as heck"

More than 40k, for sure. Almost in every PS4 medium-big game so far, (those with more than 100k) that has been the number.

i think 40k boast will be becoming less often as PS4 has been selling ~15k per week instead of <10k per week as was the case last year. So i expect to see less huge boast for PS4. But with MGS5 i do think 40k boast is going to happen because its going to be >300k release instead of just breaking 100k.

I know your probably just talking about the PS4 version but do you think the game will struggle to reach 300k overall? If so I think you may be cutting the game short if you're judging it's potential off of a sequel nobody wanted and a remaster nobody in Japan asked for. Now obviously the game could bomb but considering not only is it targeting the younger demographic but also older fans of the series by being a more traditional JRPG it could do quite well overall.

Evidence to that is the fact that out of all the games you listed the only one that I'd consider to have done well when you look at its sales as a whole is the FFX/X-2 remaster. Which just happens to be a not only more traditional JRPG but also a game that fans of the series actually wanted to see,
just not as bad as the FF VII remake haha
.

Hopefully during TGS we get more info on how the the gameplay is going to be handled because that is what I think will determine how well World of Final Fantasy performs.
