Because we're more charitable to people trying to enhance human dignity and freedom around the world than a dynastic theocratic autocratic regime with secret police.

I have made two mission trips to help Syrian refugees. The best camp "housing " was all funded by Saudi .

Not sure what the person ( who enhance human dignity)who made that pic contributed in comparison .

Don't know about taking Syrian refugees. I can easily check that by people in the base

not in Syrian case they have been accepted regardless

Then how come everyone except Saudi Arabia and their news services (from news companies, to human rights organizations to the UN) all say no refugees have been taken in by Saudi Arabia?
Is it some worldwide conspiracy to make them look bad?

i'm Saudi and I was shocked last week when people accused Saudi of not accepting any Syrian refugees. I live in the country and I see the treatment they get, free education (even higher education), free healthcare, jobs, also among other things. Glad somebody said something

2-hours later they say there are 500.000 in ksa.

3-then 750.000.

UNHCR: The UN Refugee Agency
stupid error shows their work and dedication to the cause. i mean look how beautiful the camps and how happy the Syrian are.

500,000/750,000 syrians in KSA who were on visas, not refugees pretty big difference.

Very nice.

Time for the other Gulf countries to step up now.

Not funding ISIS would be ideal too, but baby steps first I suppose.

That's pretty good.

Other countries should take note on how to handle refugees from KSA.

Feels a bit weird saying that, but it is what it is.

Or they aren't calling them refugees because they aren't refugees, they are migrant workers on visas (although they are allowed to stay after their visas expire).

Once again not 1 registered refugee has been taken in by KSA according to UNHCR, Amnesty International etc..

read again according to Nabil Othman, acting regional representative to the Gulf region at the United Nations’ refugee agency (UNHCR), told Bloomberg there were 500,000 Syrians in that country.

Yes, Syrians that are migrant workers and have been there for years on visas who are now allowed to stay, not refugees that have been taken in.

Don't we have couple of saudis on this forum? Why not chime in here and tell us the situation over there

I'm sure there are more than a couple.

this is just my observation, but this has been going on for a few years, and I have noticed a large increase in Syrian brothers and sisters when I was there recently and almost all the Syrians I know in Saudi have brought their relatives there.
but it's hard to quantify because Saudi Arabia doesn't issue them refugee status and the media wasn't reporting on the matter, even on well documented stuff like their aid to other refugee camps in Lebanon and Jordan would be in the news one day but everybody would forget about it the next.

that said, I still think Saudi Arabia should do more for them.

1- before 2011 there were only 200.000 Syrians in ksa.

2- any foreigner must require visa to enter KSA (Visitor’s visas-Family visit visas-Transit visas-Work visas-Residency visas)

3-Syrian are allowed to work or not and move or live freely anywhere in ksa and given proper housing (house-apartment-villas) not tent or shacks in the edge of the border.

4- they are never be called refugees but ARAB BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN DISTRESS.

5-Saudi's Aid to Syrian is incomparable to what all Islamic & non-Islamic countries have done.

Thanks for the unbiased perspective and the work you do. I have been donating to the refugee camps for the past 2-3 years through UNRWA but really it's nothing compared to actually being on the ground and helping.

Every Syrian coming to SA get's a house/apartment/villa, free healthcare and free education!

Why do they even bother drowning in the Mediterranean Sea if the true paradise is in the east?

What portion of the 500,000 figure by Nabil Othman is composed of fleeing Syrian refugees from when the crisis started? And what is with the 2.5 million figure being reported in the OP?

The Kingdom has received around 2.5 million Syrians since the beginning of the conflict.

So where are these refugees at and how easy is it to get into Saudi Arabia?

While the Gulf states have allowed some Syrian nationals in (Saudi Arabia says it has let in 500,000 since 2011), primarily as migrant workers, there has been no explicit policy from any of these countries to house refugees arriving en masse without sponsors or work permits.

To explain this requires delving deeper into Gulf states' fears regarding political stability within their own borders, and into larger questions of civic identity and the notion of what being a citizen of a Gulf state means.

In 2012 as the war with Bashar al-Assad began to become a more clearly established competition between Sunni Gulf Arab interests and Iranian aligned allies, deep fears began to pervade the Gulf states that Syrians loyal to Mr Assad would seek to infiltrate the Gulf to exact revenge.

Screening of Syrian travellers to the Gulf began apace, and it became markedly more difficult for Syrians to receive work permits or renew existing permits.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-34173139

Rights groups are not convinced. Visa restrictions make it difficult for Syrians to enter Gulf countries in practice, and even harder to stay. “These countries are not making clear, logistically and technically, to these people that your destination could be the Gulf,” says Qadi. “They have to make it clear. They have to announce it.”

The logic behind Gulf refugee policies is complex. In smaller Gulf states like Qatar and the UAE, foreigners already far outnumber nationals, a demographic balance that, for some, feeds feelings of anxiety tinged with xenophobia. In the UAE, foreign nationals outnumber citizens by more than five to one.

So pretty much only people with sponsors or jobs can get in but not actual refugees, how charitable of Saudi Arabia.

But that is per the royal decree. Do you know what a royal decree entails? Straight from the King's mouth. Failure to follow King's order will result in a swift execution. As for why you want to go to Europe, well, who wouldn't? All said and done, KSA is still a police state. Basically a theocratic Syria before the revolution. And then there is also the question of geography. You'd need to pass Iraq to get to the Saudi border, or go through another country and apply from there. It's not a human exodus situation.

I can assure you there is no outflow of Syrian refugees to the Gulf, at least from Lebanon. They are all heading to Europe, or Turkey - the ones that cannot move stay here in Lebanon although there is nothing for them here - no work, no residency, nada.

crisis started? in 2011 .and there were only 200.000 Syrians in ksa.i was responding to a poster saying there were in KSA before crisis which the statistic prove other wise.

UNHCR says there 0 refugees in ksa. then hours later they say there are 500.000 in ksa. then 750.000 so their statistic is wrong and not reliable.

the 2.5 million reported from MoFA.

Don't Saudi nationalists fund ISIS,making them directly or indirectly responsible for the refugee crisis to begin with? Or is my sense of geopolitics off base.

Yes. At the highest levels. And Al Qaeda. They want to have their cake and eat it.

Wheres the proof that King Salman or his predecessor Abdullah, or his predecessor Fahad were funding Al Qaida or ISIS?

I'm talking about numerous Saudi Billionaires and if you going to be THAT intellectually dishonest then we're done.

Oh, thats what "highest levels" meant? Usually people use that to define a government.

I very specifically mean private individuals but it's ludicrous to think the extended and gigantic royal family isn't at least connected at its fringes.

Saw your edits. So the actions of people of certain citizenship means the government is responsible for them?

Oh so now the "highest levels" have moved to "fringes". Keep going. Royal family is still not the government, btw.

But the Royal Family is intrinsically tied to Saudi Arabia's governance, and includes thousands of people. I wouldn't at all be surprised if Saudi Arabia's government includes multiple officers who are both members of the Saudi family and funders of the Islamic State.

from what I understand, it's not that cut and dry, Syria and Iraq are a huge mess with multiple factions fighting each other. a very simplified way of putting it is Saudi Arabia is very Anti-Assad. so they sent aid to factions that were fighting him, factions changed and lots of their aid went with the people who joined ISIS. granted, it's a lot more complicated than that, but I can tell you one thing and this is something I've seen first hand, the Saudi Media, the government, and the general populace hate ISIS. The government does not tolerate ISIS sympathizers within the country.

ISIS has attacked Iraq and Syria. Syria is Iran's closest ally and Iraq was getting close to Iran.

Iran has had to help their allies fight against ISIS.

so you twist
ISIS attacked only the faction against Assad aka FSA and others and never shot a bullet against Iran that's the ground facts .so let us be real.

if they are then they would have to be very hush hush about it to keep it secret from the government. The heads of the family have no qualms about locking up their own (mostly under house arrest).

did ISIS attack IRAN or ASSAD?

no, but they weaken their influence. it is reason enough for the royal family to ignore ISIS's atrocities and do little to stop them.

Iran has been bombing ISIS for most of the war. And they are on the verge of loosing their major ally if Assad is finally overthrown, they have also spent a lot of money propping Assad up.
