Halo 5 Campaign Info Post - Building an Epic Campaign

Dear god, this looks really good. I hope I won't have any tests around October 27th.

Nothing quite like a snow level to raise the hype.

How does it feel to be ignored for crappy opinions?

Wanting more levels like Silent Cartographer is a good and all, but calling Tsavo highway a open level is a troll like no other.

Keep it up though.

Tsavo highway is an open level. Some users here are just stuck on the word highway and the literal interpretation that roads are a straight line. It's a stupid semantic argument that has nothing to do with the level itself.

Yes, you move forward just like every other Halo level. However, there are significant portions of that level where there are multiples points of attack on an open plain that can be attacked from 360 degrees.

As was Halo 4 and Halo: MCC before they came out.

MCC still hurts. I can't deny there's some fantastic quality inside Halo 5 it looks like, I just really don't like the direction so now that MCC is still just a throwaway product it sucks. I haven't liked how the Covenant sounds in forever, the art style, weapons, etc... I just like my classic stuff. :(

Looks way better than I expected. The visor thing is there to save rendered pixels, I assume?

It was like that in Halo 4, so it's just an aesthetic choice to make you feel like you're in the helmet. Though you barley notice in when you're playing.

Edit: *Shakes fist at Poodles*

The large amounts of unrestricted views to the skybox are about the only things open about TS.

Damn, was not expecting Halo news today. That Sanghelios gameplay, soooo good. October 27th cannot come soon enough :). Also liked the nice touch in the beginning when it said "Sanghelios 27 October." They also seemed to still retain some elements on the HUD like glare, it is just really subtle.

Same here. I'm actually ok with how it looks visually, I'm just not a big fan of the Call of duty style ADS, the climbing animation, and the boosting.

Looks a lot like pretty Halo 4 to me. I've got my copy pre-ordered but, man, this is the least hyped I've been for a Halo game ever. Still yet to see anything that looks as fun as the wide open encounters of Combat Evolved. We'll just have to wait and see.

The 1080p rolling back to keep 60fps sounds like the best possible solution imo.

It's actually specifically not Calladooty style ADS. It's visual, but it lacks the movespeed penalty and the vicious hit to hipfire.

The Sanghelios Gameplay looked bland but that Cinematic First Look looked great. I hope they can mesh the squad gameplay good in it.

But yes, a snow level is needed in Halo. If we get a coupple of those + we revisit a Halo Ring again. OMG

LOL, I am having issues with Bell Fibe. My upstream is 1/10th of what I should get and I've been on the phone with them for 2 hours. Apparently my cables need to be rewired, gonna be a huge pain in the ass.

What am I even reading.

I'm just asking people here and video gamers in general to temper their expectations for once instead of hyping every ever sequel from popular franchises like it's the rapture.

343i could literally show us unreleased Halo 4 levels and I'm absolutely convinced that a significant portion of the community here would still be screaming that it's the best thing since sliced bread. It gets old.

I'm not seeing a single thing in any of these campaign trailers that looks any different from what I'd expect from the FPS genre in the last 10 years. This just looks like the same old crap and the worst portions from the worst Halo games.

Fuck off dude. If you're just going to keep posting shit like this in the thread leave. Nobody wants that here. Quit shitting up Halo threads.

Also, this game is looking very sharp so far. I'm loving the new screenshots and game play. I really can't wait to play as Blue Team. It's been a dream of mine ever since I first read Fall of Reach in middle school :)

Blue Team looks fucking sweet.

Also happy to see quite a bit of visual polish on the game. No surprise as that's what comes last, but it does look improved over the beta. Dynamic res near 1080p with a locked 60fps is definitely exceeding my expectations. PBR looks great too.

Just a few more weeks...

Yeah Tsavo isn't open at all, Silent Cartographer and Assault on the control room are better examples of open, or the Ark and The Covenant. That mining vehicle has multiple shade turrets mounted on it, so that's going to be more massive than anything we've seen before. I'm not worried.

The Swords of Sanghelios gameplay looks great. Why the hell didn't they just show this instead of the level from the E3 demo? This looks much more fun. Love the verticality of the level design. Honestly, it very reminds me of Destiny, in-fact, I could have been fooled in to thinking it was, were it not for the recognisable enemies. The boosting around, the titan smash etc. All welcome mind. Looks like you'll have more things at your disposal. The graphics aren't exceptional, but the way I look at it is that it looks graphically comparable to Destiny, and that game runs at half the frame rate, so I'm not complaining.

From their Sprint dev videos a lot it looks like parts of that E3 demo were built specifically for the show. Based on how they develop their campaign I'm guessing not a lot was in a state they felt was okay to be shown in a live demo format, hence why they've avoided showing much until release.

Seriously. I think we should remark here about 343 putting out unfinished visuals to show the current situation with the game months ago rather than bullshots...it gives me faith in them to tell the truth about the game ;)

Show me video of one point in Tsavo highway where you can attack from all 360 degrees without having previously come into an area from one direction (because technically anything can be attacked from 360 degrees if you run along the edges of a map, even in halo 4). I'm waiting.

Also different for each character. And not in MP.

Chromatic Aberration might be just a bit too heavy for my tastes, but otherwise it's looking good. Except for the continuing lack of split-screen...

*spins around 360*

Look, I can attack from all directions!

It gets old.

Same thing we say when we see you come into a Halo thread to spread pessimism and misery every time.

Going by this logic, how do you design a level that doesn't look like a quarry of some sort? Path manipulation has a purpose other than "stiffing the openness of a level" you know.

Not to defend every choice they made, but it seemed from what they said that losing coop had more to do with ai processing and game logic than res

But wouldn't the AI be the same for both one and two players playing. In coop the view is calculated twice but the AI only needs to be calculated once.

On top of that the AI would be taking over other spartans if you have less people playing. So in fact the AI would have less to do if another player was playing. Btw what about the cloud processing that MS is touting. This would have been a perfect opportunity to use it and it's a little curious why they didn't.

I thought it had to do with FPS?
Lower resolution means the frame can be drawn quicker. You could make the case that this is a CPU bound issue that isn't as affected by resolution but AI can be done on the GPU.

Just go away and stop boring people. It would be one thing if you had some particular insight but you're just trolling as a nonstop campaign/hobby. And it's dull.

Anyone notice the lack of music? I wanna hear all this badass new throwback OST.

EDIT: Need a gif of those jackal shields reflecting on the water.
