Yeah, the Star Wars commentary is the best one I've seen yet. I think it comes down to the fact that they were more personally interested in the material. In the commentaries I've watched so far, they almost barely reference anything happening on screen. This was the first one that heavily benefited from actually watching along with them (that I've seen).

I don't understand why they kept playing random music throughout it though. I haven't heard that in any other commentaries.

Got tickets to a Samurai Cop 1 & 2 double feature next week at Alamo Drafthouse. I wish Space Cop could be added to make it a Shit Cop Hack Fraud Triple Feature.

Hmm, the whole 'let it pass into myth' seems functional (Rich, about ten minutes in). It solves two problems: "why should young people give a shit about this" and "how is this shit suddenly back" (also relates directly to the title, so... yeah), which is kind of the problem with (any) Ghostbusters reboot too. Not the fictional universe, but 'why would a younger audience care', particularly when general knowledge has changed (with ghosts, that is). Not a problem with this fantasy crap though.

And that's where I'm shutting it off, because I really don't give a shit about SW. I'm more interested in the ability to predict a (any) plot just based on tropes alone.

Mike's complete mangling of Domhnall Gleeson's name almost made me spit out my tea. This is gonna be Saoirse Ronan all over again for Americans isn't it?

For the record, it's pronounced 'doh-nell' . Basically Donald in Irish.

There is a fear in me that this movie will be extremely ''safe''. That makes crazy things like a potential evil Luke Skywalker exciting.

with episode vii coming out, i started watching the plinkett reviews and it finally got me to watching the making of the phantom menace, which is like watching a car accident in slow motion. it's actually fascinating. the second kid they show audition before jake lloyd is pretty natural. i guess he dodged a bullet, but he didn't do much acting after that either (which might be another bullet dodged to be honest).

there's footage of cutting ewan mcdonald's hair and lucas has pretty much the only interesting thing to say so far, that the braid has to symbolize something, that each notch could be a part of the jedi learning.

It's not the Anglosphere's fault you guys keep putting silent consonants in everything.

Anyway, I'd like to see a BotW of the SW Prequels.

There would need to be an extremely good reason for Luke Skywalker to defect to the Dark Side or nobody would buy it

It would also feel really lazy. I hope the movie does none of that. I do think that, much like JJ's two Trek movies, this one is going to be incredibly save with lots of references and nostalgia.

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing.

Damn, that prediction video actually made me a little hyped for the movie. I liked those predictions from a story angle. I don't really like Star Wars at all, but I do like the universe it tried to create. I'm going to remain hopeful that a good story has been written for at least the first movie.

Exactly. In Jedi, Palpatine and Vader used the threat of his friend's imminent deaths to goad him into turning, they threatened to go after his sister to make her a servant of the dark side, and a ton of mind fuckery to make him embrace his hatred. None of that shit worked. Luke would have rather died than turn to the dark side. He would have rather let his friends die than turn to the dark side. He would have rather given up his sister to slavery than turn to the dark side. Luke has an incorruptible soul. He is the light personified. To turn him in The Force Awakens would be entirely unbelievable. End of story.
