Gran Turismo Sport announced

Pretty sure it's supersampled like all of today's racing game trailers, but it's definitely in-engine. How close the image quality will get to this in the actual game is the big question.

Yup. That's been the case for most of GT's trailers in the past, going back to GT3 ps2 and upwards.

I believe GT1/2 were CG.

I am still confused as to what this game is?
Anyone have any idea if its just another prologue with the Academy stuff tacked on or something more robust?

There's ideas for and against.
Kaz/PD/Sony have handled this...badly.
If they just released the specifics after the conference we could be discussing the game properly instead of just snatching at ideas of our heads.
It's annoying as hell. Someone mentioned they may go into detail at some event next week.
I just feel the buzz for this died with all the confusing messaging.

Not gonna lie, when Kaz said that they had Gran Turismo Sport running in VR, my excitement for VR went from indifferent to must-have!

The trailer also gave us a glimpse at what appears to be the cockpit of the Bugatti VGT

You can see the blue trim on the wheel as well as the blue seat in this side shot of the Bugatti

Also what track is this as I don't remember seeing rumble strips shaped like this in GT6

They have the Toyota S-FR in the GT6 demo at TMS, so that's almost certainly a lock for GTS as well

How? That's not a FIA regulated race car. Maybe if they make a GT4 class racer out of it. I think people are going to be in for some real disappointment if they expect to see droves of road cars in this game. Maybe if it was a prototype racing concept like the Bugatti or a non sanctioned track car like the AM Vulcan I could see it being in.

Why would road cars be eliminated? This FIA GT Championship was originally planned for GT6, but it sounds like PD scrapped plans for that to make a more indepth version for the PS4. And we've already seen a Mazda Miata in the trailer. According to GTplanet there will be at least three modes, Campaign, Sport, and Arcade. Arcade is pretty obvious, Campaign sounds like the replacement for GT Mode, and Sport sounds like what they were describing here. They can just gate off any non-FIA regulated cars once you enter to the Sport mode.

I think road cars could perhaps be used in license tests if they choose to implement them, which would probably be a good idea to let players get a feel for the game before the get into online races with race cars. Road cars could also be used perhaps in the early stages of the manufacturers championships. When the trailer showed the Mazda Miata it was parked next to Mazda's Vision GT car, and the Mercedes AMG GTS was parked next to the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3.

Right. If they have a focus on manufacturer, it will probably be like Driveclub's accolades. All tier cars from the maker help out, whether you are just starting out in a miata, or hyper competing in the prototypes.

I am exaggerating, but I don't think it is too far removed from the actual sentiment.

Silverstone, Bathurst, and Suzuka will probably be a part of the track list.

From the partnership announcement in 2014.

According to that FIA magazine Silverstone, Suzuka, Brands Hatch and Bathurst were the first to be certified. And Le Mans and Spa would be next:

“We found a number of tracks that corresponded very closely to the real circuits, right down to the position of the spectators, the TECPRO barriers and the tyre walls. There were six circuits that corresponded to the criteria we wanted to see and four were homologated. Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans, which in the game is called Le Sarthe, will be next but they still need a small amount of work.”

And the Nürburgring is already in the teaser so that must have got certified at some point.

Holy shit, sounds like the FIA have a pretty strict certification process. I wouldn't be surprised if these tracks in GT7 will end up being the best reproductions of them out there.

Yeah, here's the article where that came from (pg. 26/27):

http://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/auto8.pdf

And some more quotes:

“The aim was to look at the circuits they have digitised as if they are real circuits,” explains Jacques Berger, head of the FIA’s Safety Department. “When we went to Japan we went through all the circuits they have built and checked all the details – track width, the size of the run-off areas, the kind of debris fencing used, the kerbs etc.

“The FIA had model data that acted as a reference and it was compared with the Gran Turismo tracks to see whether they were accurately represented, as well as checking the design of the run-off areas, the shape of the kerbs and position of the tyre barriers to make sure the FIA’s general safety standards were fulfilled.”

“They are using very impressive, very complex methods to digitize the circuits,” he says. “They use photos from helicopters, GPS, Differential GPS and laser scans to build a 3D circuit. It is the kind of technology F1 teams usually use with their simulators.”

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. It will probably be a big improvement, but I don't expect it to sound like iRacing or RaceRoom.

That would be a shame! After playing R3E, AC and PCars after years of faithfull GT service, for me that would be a breaking point with the GT series.

Is it not Brands Hatch or Nurburgring? Those are the two tracks listed as being in the trailer over at GTPlanet.

I'm sure they'll be able to figure out what it is if it is a new/different track though.

I honestly don't know about the FIA regs, but the track/kerb with the Bugatti VGT does remind me of Paddock Hill Bend at Brands Hatch:

You're right, the GT6 version doesn't have that centre channel like that, it's completely flat. The GT Sport version doesn't look right either with the channel edges sloping - this is a tarted up GT6 track.

GT Sport is GT6 PS4.

Hopefully it will appear in GT7. Polyphony is years behind on the modelling of the Sema/Pebble Beach cars. The latest ones in GT6 (2013) were the 2011 winners.

So, do we know if this game it's "GT7" but they just don't want to call it like that in case it doesn't work out? Or it's more like GtPrologue+GtAcademy with FIA partner?

A day or so before GTS was announced Sony issued a press release saying that the winner would appear in an upcoming version of Gran Turismo on the PS4. That was the first time that Sony had ever acknowledged a PS4 version of GT.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-10-28-gran-turismo-sport-is-not-gran-turismo-7

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's president and CEO Jim Ryan provided some clarity in the wake of Sony's conference at Paris Games Week.

"We're not announcing Gran Turismo 7 at this stage," he told Eurogamer.

"Fair to say [series director Kazunori Yamauchi] has been making these games for some considerable time now. I think it's reasonable to assume that something else might come down the road. Is it a Prologue? No, I think it'll be more than that.

"The old days, when the games were offline, the experience was defined by what's on the disc. You had a distinction between a Prologue and a full GT, it was very stark. When the game becomes more of an online connected experience, that distinction blurs. This will be much more than a Prologue type experience."

I really want a Mazda Premacy or an Audi A1 in Gran Turismo but after all these years, I am still waiting. Thankfully there's a bunch of other cool cars.

I knew this already, but it's the same that saying nothing.

They still haven't said if it's a full game or not. Just "Not 7 but also not Prologue". Wtf?

I Just want to know if it's the new GT big installment since GtPlanet has informed that I'll feature single player.

And want to remember that Yamauchi said in the past that Gt7 was coming before 2017.

I really will stick with the idea that this it's "Gt7" but just a different approach. If it works, they'll stick with this. But if fails, they'll start working on a truthfully GT7.

PD is killing me with no new games for years. If there were a way to use my T500RS on Forza. I'd jump on the Xbone deals this holiday.
