I feel the lack of a level cap and speed of leveling makes some eh perk choices not have that big of an impact. I'm level ~44 or so and am actually not sure what to even put points in anymore, thinking of just pumping special now.

I started putting points into the various crafting perks. Already had gun nut. Next time I play I'm going to put more points in armorer earlier on. At least instead of the level 10 Luck perk that very rarely seems to activate even at level 3.

So I tracked down
Kellog
last night. What a great scene.

Unfortunately
he's desire to chat first allowed me to get to point blank shotgun range. And if that stupid bastard thought he might be luring me into a trap. Went into VATS, unloaded 5 100 hp damage shells into his face, which exploded is a rain of gore. Stupid bastard takes my kid and kills my spouse. He wasn't walking out of there.

So what do I do with the Augments? Do I need them or can I just sell them?

I am about to finish the game, and I feel like the game's quests are not really that good. It's been quite stale so far.
The game also lacks nice little hidden areas like Little Lamplight or Oasis from Fallout 3. There is just one city i.e. Diamond City and then there is a smaller one i.e. Good Neighbourhood, where you barely spend any time and they are also quite small. Nothing like The Strip, Rivet City or Megaton (although Megaton could equal to Diamond City, but it had a lot more stuff/quests associated with it). The final missions are all played in areas you have been wandering around many times.

It also lacks the writing and faction war of Fallout New Vegas ofcourse.

I'm also wondering this. I'm siding with

Yeah and the romance is shit. But goddamn is that a fun game.

I've mostly shelved Fallout 4 for now, after about 10 hours. The combination of the the clunky combat and awful UI have been enough to make the game very unenjoyable for me. I love the world Bethesda built as usual, but I really do not enjoy playing in it. After a few days hiatus, I tried again last night and concluded it's not something I'll be able to adjust to. The gunplay is just awful and it's turned me off from the game entirely. Fallout 4 is probably my biggest gaming disappointment of the past decade.

Yeah the gunplay is awful coming off Destiny and Halo 5.

That's why I just use VATS a lot and play it like an old school RPG lol

Keep the augments. One of them is needed for an upcoming quest, not sure if they're all used later on though.

I'm in low 20s level wise now, and I feel like I've dumped the bulk of my points into Crafting/Settlement related perks despite still spending the bulk of my time out killing stuff. It's sorta weird to me.. I don't think I'll really start putting anything significant into straight combat perks until I max out all the crafting/settlement ones I want.

On whole the perk system has grown on me; I like the stat vs perk decision and the sheer variety of options. Each perk may not do as much as they did in earlier fallouts, but that seems to be balanced out fairly well with the rate of leveling/lack of cap.

Shame you haven't been able to enjoy it, there is so much in the world to enjoy if you can find a play style that suits you. I for one go mostly with VATs builds so 75% of the time I'm not even dealing with the gunplay because I am fighting through VATs. Others have tried stealth builds or full melee builds. But I get it, I've probably spent hours in my 50+ just fighting the UI and some silly mission things (like looking for 30 minutes for a key card on a random enemy I killed). Coming from Destiny too the gunplay doesn't necessarily feel bad, just way different, and my 300+ hours of habit from Destiny are constantly fighting it.

Just a tip if you ever get back into it, if you trigger VATs it centers your reticule on your enemy and if you fire right when you exit VATs, without even using it, it's almost a guaranteed hit.

I feel like the games quests are too much based on action and not enough on characters - maybe because Bethesda is more confident in one of those things. Its kind of like meet character>character gives you task>go back to character>get reward>repeat.

What I would have liked more of would be meet character>you doing something WITH that character (not necessarily combat, like maybe stealing something or talking to other people and try and solve conflicts)>this leads to climactic quest based off conflicts>go back to original character>this leads to other unique quests>repeat.

Yeah and the romance is shit. But goddamn is that a fun game.

I finally got to "romance" a character, and nothing happened aside from "You can now sleep near a lover and get a perk." Yea, there was some dialogue but it wasn't much.

The game is great and there are some fun missions (Silver Shroud). My biggest disappointment is the lack of creepy Vaults. I liked finding Vaults and seeing what horribleness went down, no lights. Maybe some rads. Weirdness. Nothing like that here.

The gunplay doesn't stand up to a dedicated FPS like Halo, but it's a massive improvement on 3/NV. I find it's more than serviceable.

The world is an absolute joy to explore. The environment provides some interesting stories, I was wandering around the Glowing Sea in leaded power armor finding some great vignettes last night.

I wanted more Fallout 2 style backstories for these vaults. There was that one you found where
they gathered all the wealthy people and assigned them random jobs and sleeping arrangements, and gave overseer to an unqualified guy just to see what would happen
but that's the only vault I've found. Or if I found any others they were so dull I forgot about them.

How long does it take, I usually run with Dogmeat, but I want to get the Trophy so I switched to Cait for the time being and lost all my Lone Wanderer perks. I hate having a companion. I just did her special mission, which was actually kind of cool, but how long after that should it take to get the max level?

I need that 9 more levels, 12 more Misc Objectives, and the settlement trophy and I'm there! Amazing that I probably haven't even explored half the game yet or done some of the major sidequests like Silver Shroud.

LiQuid!

I proudly and openly admit to wishing death upon the mothers of people I don't like
Are Two Shot legendaries the most OP guns in the game? The combat rifle I found has broken the game for me. I don't even need to try for headshots anymore. I just VATS and aim a single shot at 3 guys' torso, hit the accept button and then there are 3 less guys for me to worry about.

It mainly depends on how frequently you can do things where it says "____ likes that". For Piper I just picked a bunch of locks and naturally got it fairly quickly, but I'm not sure what Cait likes. Maybe taking tons of drugs, lol.

Taken in isolation, up against games with super slick gunplay (like Destiny et al), then it will always look poor.

But FO4 is jsut another example of the entire package being more than just the sum of it's constituent parts.

I've played through all Fallouts, and I'll be honest, I see very little of this lack of depth people levy at FO4.

A few perks/ hours later and the beast is now complete.

:edit:

Apparently not! I got it up to 911 damage.

Geezus at that damage, but explosive minigun....................

I have a few exploding weapons but not a minigun. oh lord, im in love.

Seems like in general, but certain combos on fast weapons also seem nasty. Particularly something like Bleeding which actually stacks per hit.

edit: Also I *just* found the "Your Special!" book after like 60 hours but I picked the wrong skill cause I couldn't back out and check my perk tree and the game was locked in on the "PICK AN ATTRIBUTE" menu (thanks Bethesda for being smart!). My last save is like 3 hours ago because I fell in the "well I might as well try and see what this settlement shit is all about" hole and I'm not redoing all that shit again.

it's one perk. You're 60 hours in. I'm sure you'll be fine in like 2 hours when you level up again.

Haha, she did like when I took chems and got addicted, but not anymore (; Which is kind of annoying because I always used a shit ton of chems in battle.

She likes lockpicking so hopefully just do some more sidequests with her and I'll get there so I can give her the boot. I must be close if I did her personal side mission, or is that like a halfway point?

My vote goes to an upgraded Railyway Rifle. The thing just absolutely wrecks and then you can recover your ammo. I mean you can 2-3 shot anything in power armor with that thing.

Shame to hear it. Gonna miss your awesome stories. :(

But yeah, this game is not a shooter. It's still an RPG, and if you want it to be a shooter and try to play it as a shooter you're not going to have fun.

Game could use some auto-aim on consoles, though I hate to say it. Aiming's a bit too imprecise sometimes.

LOL (random encounter spoiler)
Preston Garvey Impersonator... feel kinda bad for killing him

Also, I really disagree about the combat and this has someone who has put 70+ hours in Destiny. Sure it's not Destiny-calibre but it's more than good enough IMO.

Also after
Kellog
, the
BoS
has shown up en masse.

Danse wants me (all BoS members as per the radio) to come see him but I haven't done any of his missions short of the original one (where you get The Righteous Authority). I found that odd since I haven't joined the BoS
. I figure he can wait, I'm busy doing other stuff.

Maybe I'm just used to New Vegas but Fallout 4s combat felt a lot better to me. It's not equal to a normal fps yet but the fact my bullets go where I put the cross hair (mostly) along with the enemies going for cover made it enjoyable. Everything in 3 and NV felt like a gentlemanly duel where u both stood 10 feet apart and unloaded on one another.

After beating the game to have to say I enjoyed it. It totally replaced fallout 3, but all the stream lining to the dialogue makes NV still reign as king for open world RPG for me. I haven't played Witcher 3 yet though. The dialogue / forced path in this made it feel like mass effect. You're Shephard and the story takes one path. I feel like if you combined the good shooting of mass effect 2 with a larger world to explore of mass effect 1 you can draw a comparison to Fallout 4. They stream lined a lot of dialogue / quest variance for a more a to b progression. But I think the actual world is one of the most interesting ones they've created yet.

Just dump some more choice and consequence into the next game Bethesda, and it'll be perfect.

Yeah the combat doesn't stand up to a dedicated FPS but it's MILES better than F3/NV. Those games were awful without using VATS.

Too many. After a while, many are very similar and nothing special. Only a few are really "special" and worthwhile imo. Quantity over Quality if you ask me. In particular the south-west, [

I can really recommend that site:
http://fallout4map.com/

Used it to make sure that I don't miss a bobblehead. Just disable "pickups" to make it less clustered.

So every single place can show "cleared" on the map? because I swear I clear some places and they dont say "cleared" :(

just to let you know, there's more.

Hot damn. I need to find those. Probably hard :p

Man this game gives me a panic attack, I haven't even gotten beyond the gas station. So much choice makes me lock up worse than a computer that talked to Captain kirk,

Girlfriend surprised me this morning with this downloading on Steam "just because."

Made my name Fuckface James (even though my name is Will, lol) and gave myself nothing but charisma, so this should be an interesting first playthrough!

Might have run into an annoying glitch at the end of "The Silver Shroud" quest, any help is appreciated.

(minor spoilers)

I managed to save Kent by the end of the quest and I got away from the hospital. But I read online that you're supposed to be able to upgrade the Silver Shroud Costume using him at various levels. The issue is that Kent is still stuck in the hospital basement with the other raiders and won't move back to Goodneighbour, and he only mentions he doesn't have any upgrades for me. :(

What gives?

So I'm on a quest for looking for a
missing brotherhood member
, and it took me to a satellite array filled with super mutants. It's insanely hard and I have no idea how to beat it.I'm level 13.

As with any RPG, if you can't beat it now, come back and try again later. I still had trouble with that quest when I was in the 20's.

He upgrades it a 25-35-45. Weird that he wont go home but if he is giving the upgrade dialogue at least that's something.
