Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

Palmer Luckey just provided an update that the schedule is on track for Q1 release, with preorder coming very soon, somewhere after the new year.

How much of an improvement is the hardware between DK2 and Retail? Kinda tempted but honestly wasn't super duper impressed with the DK2. Menus on Elite were unreadable and screen-door effect was really hard to ignore.

Does this as well as the Vive come with an additional hardware like PlayStation VR?

the PSVR breakout box only undistorts the image for television screens, it plays no part in the rendering process.

The Oculus Rift DK1 had a breakout box, all the PC VR devices have abandoned breakout boxes because the specs of the PCs are high enough to undo barrel distortion on the CPU. The Rift SDK since 0.7 has done it automatically in software.

That's due to the HUD color. What you need to do is change it to green or cyan, that makes the text really easy to read. Orange was the worst possible color for the HUD on the DK2.

Literally everything about the consumer Rift is better than it was on DK2. Resolution, screen refresh, screen quality, percentage of screen actually used, screen-door effect, optics, comfort, height, weight, wheel-base, audio, materials, drivers, ease of use, latency...

I wonder if this and PSVR will be difficult to get once it's in the wild. Will it be like the wii where if you didn't preorder you won't get one for a few months unless you're lucky or have a hookup?

All 3 VR headsets will assuredly sell out their first shipment.

Every single VR headset released thus far - including the DK1, DK2, and GearVR - have been sold out for months upon their release.

Been waiting to make my CPU upgrade. All of the PC hardware vendors should be wetting themselves to pander to the VR community. It will be small at first, but we're going to be willing to throw some money around.

Still not sure if I should go or this which was my original plan or wait on the Vive. I was always looking forward to the Rift but with the camera being on the opposite end on the Vive it seemed like a solution that fits my small gaming space better. Without price points it's really hard to try and make a choice. Ugh, it's going to be one long year.

You seem to be on top of the VR realm. Do you have a ballpark on what the price will be for the rift? Also thoughts on Rift vs Vive?

Edit: Nevermind, you must psychic.

I'm still banking on it being $400 but I could def see it being up to $500. Really doubt they'll go higher than that even with a couple games packed in.

$349 with no controller $399 with touch controller!

But of course this will be wrong :(
They already said it'll be more than $350 with the Xbox One controller, Touch controllers won't even be available until a few months after launch. Note that they also said they will be selling it for cost, meaning no profit on the hardware.

All over this as soon as it's up. I've used all of them and the retail kit is so good. I totally need to get new contacts before launch, though.
