Hopefully charlie asked him about Darth Jar Jar
The team threw a Hail Mary to George, saying the game would have more credibility if the apprentice had a Darth title, a Force Unleashed team member says. Lucas agreed that this situation made sense for Sith royalty, and offered up two Darth titles for the team to choose from. He threw out Darth Icky and Darth Insanius. There was a pregnant pause in the room after that. People waiting for George to say just kidding, but it never comes, and he just moved on to another point.
But nobody liked your way George. Just look at the numbers TFA is putting up. Time to face reality.
So that's why Princess Amidala had a new chrome ship in every movie."I made them completely different -- different planets, different spaceships to make it new."
I can sorta understand where he is coming from, tho. TFA really felt more like a "A new new Hope".
I find it hard to have sympathy for the guy because had the power to keep Star Wars to himself. Full control over episodes 7, 8 and 9 had he wanted to create them in the way he intended. He took a massive $4 billion cheque and ran with the money and now he's lamenting his loss of creative control to which he held the power to stop?
Say what you will about Lucas, he WAS pretty ambitious with the prequel trilogy, and each film is very distinct from the others.
And I....actually agree with this sentiment. It's a shame TFA was such a cynically constructed and uninspired retread.
I do want to read his original Episode 7 script he wrote for the sale but was never used. Just to see what might have happened.
But in the end, he chose to sell it; the most successful independent franchise now doing far better with Disney.
I think he was comparing Disney to slave owners in that they "use" his series for strictly profit. Or something along those lines anyway. Is he implying that Disney is anti-white? I don't understand where he was starting to go with that comment.
That said I agree with him that I was slightly disappointed that TFA retreaded ANH so much. The film was more of a reboot than a sequel, but it did a well enough job at both to have me excitedo about where they'll go next now that the franchise is on rock solid footing again.
Honestly he doesn't seem that salty to me, he probably knew he wouldn't get away with what he wanted to make so he decided to sell them, and Disney did what knew would sell the most and that is retread on nostalgia (Not complaining, I loved the film and I had no nostalgia for the originals, the movie worked fine).
He sound more like a grumpy dad that had to give his daughter in marriage, is well aware that she is gone but wish she had done something else with her life, regardless of how well she is actually doing.
He looks like he's about to get beat up lol . The same face Tupac had in Vegas.
Wait, have people really deluded themselves into thinking that the movie HAD to play it safe?
It's fucking Star Wars, it would have been successful one way or another (to the degree that it is atm is another discussion). This line of thinking that it had to "play it safe" in order to properly succeed is outrageous lol
Feels like Star Wars to meStar Wars isn't Star Wars without Lucas IMO. Real fans of the franchise know this.
No he didn't mean that. He was making an awkward joke about selling his kids into slavery. White slavers would be anti-black if anything, but really the race has nothing to do with it. Just an awkward joke.Is he implying that Disney is anti-white? I don't understand where he was starting to go with that comment.

as basura as the phantom menace ended up i gotta say the podracing sequence/homage to ben hur was immensely more exciting than ANY of the action sequences in force awakens.
Thanks for the three movies, THE CLONE WARS animated series and selling the rights George
Please dont say anything else
The only cynical thing about TFA is some of its viewers.
It's amazing to me he is still that clueless. He must have created this bubble where the second trilogy he made was phenomenal, and that bubble still persists.
So basically Lucas was against the idea of TFA being an ANH retread.
I can appreciate that.
