You mean like the dialogue between Obi-Wan and Han Solo about light sabers and laser guns?

I kinda like how you glorify the dialogue in ANH and take it more literally than the westboro baptist Church takes the bible

Specially when most of Obi-Wan's lines became contradictory bullshit in the OT alone by the time Empire dropped.

Darth Maul was cool.

I'm positive that the majority of Star Wars fans agree OT was and still is better than PT.

That's not my point. I'm just saying that all the Star Wars movies are aimed primarily to kids.

Yeah. Nostalgia Goggles usually cause that.

But, From a Certain Point of View!

If you don't get what an amazing artistic statement mad max was I'm sorry. I thought TFA was fun and have no problem with it just don't think folks realize it's just treading on nostalgia and really doesn't offer anything. It's the Burger King of movies.

I fucking hate the condescending "I don't think people realize" type of posts.

It is Star Wars. It is fun. I knew that this place was going to go to shit once a new one came out but damn. And I love the nostalgia digs, since Star Wars fans in general only like half of the movies. But we are so blinded we can't understand what we are watching, herp derp.

Rant over. :)

What do you want from me? What kind of document would prove that what all the characters were saying in Episode 4 was indeed true?

Considering most of what Obi Wan told Luke was bullshit and playing on technicalities, I would need more than anything that came from him.

No. I mean proof that the Jedi were completely forgotten around the galaxy.

Is this an argument of pedantics? Please don't tell me it is. Are you going to ask for people to travel back in time to a galaxy far, far away and take a survey on the general consensus over whether or not Jedi exists and are known?

Han Solo doesn't believe in the jedi. The Imperial Officer in A New Hope didn't respect Vader's powers. Obi Wan has to explain what the Jedi are at the beginning of A New Hope, which implies that it's not a very well-known piece of information. Further anecdotal evidence is in the form that no one ever really mentions the Jedi outside of those who had direct ties to them.

Anakin as a whole was not well done, at all. He should have been introduced as a teenager, i don't care about his mother, make him an orphan or whatever, and have 3 movies showing his and obi wans relationship because I've treated mere acquaintances with more affection than anything Anakin and Obi Wan showed in the PT.

And don't get me started on the love story, good lord, good lord..... the dialogue had to be written by someone in middle school writing a "winning the girl" fan fic.

Yes because Kershner was letting him try different things, and it was like BAM! THAT'S IT! Lucas would have had him reading his doofy ass dialogue verbatim.

Ah no. The whole Skywalker storyline depends on that. It's actually the most important part. It was handled rather well actually.

Not mentioned =/= Forgotten.

The prequels were a man creating his own personal vision for the franchise and The Force Awakens is a film that's very aware of what fans like about Star Wars and what they want to see. I can see why George feels the way he does even though I think the prequels are crap and the new film is so much better.

And yes, TFA does play it safe, but perhaps a contributing factor to that is the infamy of the prequels. who knows...

Which begs an interesting question. Which is the real Star Wars?

Fans generally like at most 2 out of 4 Jurassic Park films, that doesn't really invalidate the fact that calculated nostalgia is pretty much the defining aspect of most remakes and sequels these days, TFA included.

Poor George. All he wanted was to get paid billions of dollars and make Disney do this new trilogy the way he wanted it. The man wants it all. Is that too much to ask?!

Which is sad because people can make artistic statements with tent pole franchises. You just have to look at planet of the apes and mad max.

Edit: I would probably even through in GodZilla in there

I'm amazed that people don't realize he's donating all of the money.

People getting bent out of shape about the slavery comment need to realize that Lucas has a black wife and has complained vocally about how hard it is to get a movie starring African Americans funded during the Red Wings campaign.

Good man.

Agreed. While I think the Prequels get more shit than they deserve, they do have some pretty obvious problems, but at least they charted their own course. There was lots of new things to see in them, and Lucas did create new planets, characters, ships, and settings.

It is understandable that he is having a hard time seeing someone else take over his baby, but he sold it off for a reason. Time to move on and do something new.

I don't think Lucas should be lauded for having the movies "chart their own course". More like Lucas threw a bunch of shit at the screen and hoped something stuck.

You can actually look at the Ewoks as playing with the notion that tribal groups are considered inferior yet overcame a technological society that was considered superior.

You know a commentary on how society views tribal societies... Something that is still relevant today.

Yea sure , they were more a machine to make money than anything

This makes tfa a fanfiction

Its not part of star wars, no matter how good it is

The prequels are a part of star wars, not this

Lucas may be off with his decisions but star wars is his and anything he approves of

That's a really wonderful write-up.

It's really amazing to me how quickly and easily most people in this forum gobble up something like The Force Awakens, when I can so clearly see it for the actual cynical and corporate product that it is.

You should pat yourself on the back.

Question who is saltier, George Lucas or Star Wars fans

Answer is Star Wars fans, Lucas really doesn't give a fuck and is a man who has a family and gave his money to charity. I think he doesn't really give a rat's ass besides just giving his opinions about his baby that is Star Wars.

No Obi-Wan. Left are only all the other characters in episode 4.

Tarkin in The Clone Wars hates the Jedi and thinks their methods are obsolete.

In Rebels we see Imperial propaganda against the Jedi.

But I'm sure you'll tell me canon cartoons with Lucas involvement don't count.

Agreed. I think AAA movies suffer from this sentiment by both the fans and the producers themselves that it's better to play it safe. The previously-linked review that pointed to TFA as a result of "don't fuck this up" syndrome is I think on point. We as the movie-going public are partially complicit in ending up demanding these safe installments, even when most people never say so explicitly. What's the name for that phenomenon when it comes to consumer habits?

You're just a special snowflake above all us worthless peons.

But seriously, have you anything to add besides snide, condescending remarks?
