Sony execs are high fiving each other right now. They probably thought $300 was too steep, but now they can easily sell this for $400.

I think the $599 is fair enough but it's £499 for UK customers. That seems a bit strange. Probably going to leave it and wait to see what Vive is doing.

$600 is a lot for a supposedly subsidised device with a basic camera for tracking. Vive could be really expensive - two lighthouses, two motion tracking controllers, camera in the headset, HTC more likely to want some profit margin than facebook do - could be $700-750 easily.

Also has me a little wary about PSVR. Even assuming Sony do a base model without camera or controller (for those PS4 owners that already have those), it could still easily be $399-499 as they also have to contend with the breakout box having additional processing (and therefore cost)

edit: £499 UK price (not including shipping). Surprisingly not bad considering the horrible Euro price.

yeah way too expansive. That price basically means it's DOA. And holy shit at that price for Europe.. Fuck you Oculus.

VR shouldn't cost more than 400$.

This VR battle is only Sony's to lose at this point.. people were worried when they said it's going to be as expansive as a console.. no 399$ doesn't sound too bad. Espacially since we know that there are actual games being made for the thing and it will work on the console almost 40million people have.

Managed to get on there now but it doesn't seem to allow me to buy, claims my UK postcode isn't valid. Also forcing me to choose a state, I'm in the UK FFS! Is there a UK specific link or something?

add that to the cost of the new PC I would need and it seems unlikely that I'll be living in the VR future anytime soon. :-(

Funny thing, I'm not seeing the prices in euros, and I'm here in Western Europe.

Instead, it costs $59900!!! Because somehow the point isn't rendering I suppose?

That's $600 without the two hand controllers [and additional camera that is bundled with them]. Judging by their current pricing, it would not surprise me they will ask $150 for that later in the year.

All in all, this is waaaaaaaay to much money.

HOLY CRAP!

Was hoping for no more than $450!!!

Still preordered but I am hoping the Vive come in at a more competitive price, because then I will switch my preorder in a heart beat.

Was not 100% sold on getting the Oculus over the VIve anyway. But this could be the deal breaker for me.

Hate the fact that $50 Xbox One controller that I won't be using is adding to the cost too.

There was a link posted yesterday to a steam app that checks if your PC can handle OR. Anyone recall the app/link?

The top of the oculus shop page has a link to it.

"Make sure your Windows PC is Rift ready!
Download and run the Rift compatibility tool for Windows to find out."

FUCK. That's a pretty expensive start for VR.

But Sony could do their hero thing again and announce PSVR for $299.

Why would they do that?

Can someone explain to me why they expect PSVR to be $300? These things aren't cheap.

I think people really need to think about an actual pricing model for these products.

lol. Apparently it is £499 or the equivalent of US$720 in the UK. That is far, far too much. I'll think about buying again when it has some good exclusive software and is less than £300.

Just ordered, $600 is alot but I can pass it off as a birthday present for myself, hopefully people give some money to go towards it lol.

Even at my most pessimistic, I wouldn't have guessed a price this outrageous.

Absolutely zero chance of catching on at that price point.

I permanently banned my 6 year old daughter from using the PS4 for mistakenly sending grief reports as it's too hard to watch or talk to her
Yeah... Ouch... Not for me.

I'll wait until the tech reaches a mass market price
