It did, though. Without the hot springs scene between Lao and Ga Jiarg, you have absolutely none of the context required to make sense of the ending. They could have censored the visuals and kept the audio if they really cared about the narrative, but cutting it out completely was an utterly draconian move.
They removed a cutscene from the U.S. version of the game?

It is more of a pain to see all the text in this game this time in them (like before they have branching dialogue) due to how slow reloading the save is.

Spreadsheet in the OP allies tab has all locations. You need affinity hearts equal to the heart to heart level to unlock them. If you ignore them completely and get 4 hearts with someone then doing the first 4 heart to heart will be enough to max affinity with them (which is an achievement and the 5th heart to heart unlocked). Given later affinity missions tend to be 4 hearts level in terms of improving affinity doing heart to heart is practical.

Remember they show up when they are not in your party.

Thank you.

5 hearts affinities make any difference on game or are just achievements?

So I just got a top of that glorious waterfall in Noctilum and saw a
Telethia
there, but didn't nope yet. After about 10 minutes of screwing around I grabbed an item for that Tree quest and wondered if I could enter the plant high up. It didn't end well.
Fuck you Joker.

What is said in this scene?

Where exactly is Irina's third heart-to-heart event? Is there something else I need to trigger it other than completing the previous two?

Quoting again for the new page. I'm trying to raise Irina's affinity so I can do the Fathers and Sons mission when I hit level 50, so I really need to get these heart-to-hearts done. I've tried looking up where it is, and I've been around the area where it is supposed to happen, but I can't find her. Of course, while I'm doing this, I'm the only one in my party. Any tips? Am I missing something?

I just wanted the game to make any sense :'-(

Ending spoilers:

I went in expecting that the game wouldn't be a self contained entry because of some comments in Iwata Asks before the Japanese launch. The team said Takahashi wrote a massive story bible and only some chunks of it were used for XCX. The new art book also shows a full view of Mira with way more continents than just the 5 in the game. It sort of looks like different sections of the planet are split apart from each other, and the page says that other human and alien populations are on different parts of the planet. It sounds like they have a lot of concepts in place for a possible sequel or trilogy.

GamePad is used well in this game. Reminds me of the navigation in Wind Waker HD, where you can see your icon moving in real time and you can correct your course as you play the game.

I also like how the hexagons give you a general idea of what's in each area, but not the exact nature of it, or where it's located. Just enough to help you decide what you want to do next. Using it to maximize mining output and to fast-travel with a couple quick taps is nice, too.

If you just want to lock on an enemy, just press R. I know it says R+A in the manual(?), but that's just if you want to cycle through multiple enemies (same as R+Y). And yes, that can be quite finicky indeed.
Oh wow, I'll try this! The fact I kept doing R + A might explain why sometimes I'd lock onto a different enemy than I intended -- it must've been cycling to the next one.

If you do still want to see that scene, my 500-chapter fanfiction should be out by the end of the month. I'm just going through it with a thesaurus at the moment to make sure I'm using appropriately florid synonyms for all the alien bodily fluids.

A small part of me wondered if this was a joke about the censorship issue with Japan, but he seemed so serious, haha
It's Golnei, every time he posts you have to ask yourself whether everything in it is actually serious or not-

If I remember correctly, you need a dog on the barracks for that one to show up.

I finally got my copy!! going to play in about 30 minutes, anything I should know/ advice? Like don't invest in [insert skill] cause its doodoo, or ignore [insert quest] cause its a waste of time, stuff like that.

When your BLADE level increases, you can increase a field skill. Always pick Mechanical since it's needed for probe installation.

Save before accepting Story and Affinity missions because you can't cancel them to do other Affinity missions/the available Story mission if you're on an affinity mission.

Other things should be in the OP. If there's something that doesn't answer your questions, feel free to ask.

- And then there are the Skells. I love the Skells. I actually felt like I was playing a sequel to Xenogears for a moment while cruising across the desert, my team clad in their sweet tech. But Monolithsoft decided it was too wonderful and decided to pair the Skells with things like salvage costs/tickets when your Skell is defeated in battle. The prior costing nearly half as much as the incredibly expensive Skell. So again you have to worry about traversing the beautiful world map, fearful of encountering an aggressive monster bad ass because if you, heaven forbid, loose your Skell, it means hours of replenishing the cash you lost.

You're doing it wrong. If you have no insurance on a skell, take off all equipment, all augments, and sell the thing. Buy a new one. Will cost you much less in the long run.
Preferably though, don't let it go that far. Once a skell has 1 insurance left, you can give it to a teammate, they never lose an insurance as long as there is at least one on the skell. Whatever you do, don't use that thing yourself anymore.
And try to make use of those QTEs before your avatar leaves your broken skell. If you hit a perfect, you get your insurance back (your teammates always hit perfect, that's why they can safely ride even skells with the last insurance on them).

So what did everyone choose to join in the beginning? I'm currently a Pathfinder.

I chose to be a Reclaimer and I'm staying in the Reclaimer division forever unless I'm in a desperate need for Salvage tickets.

This game has some of the most perplexing design decisions I have ever encountered.

- You would think that with such an amazing world that the game would promote and reward exploration whenever it could. Instead, treasures and way points are locked behind a meaningless BLADE leveling system. Not to mention, if you wander into an area with aggressive high level enemies, there is a good chance you could be on the receiving end of a one hit mortal blow and sent back to your last discovered area.

- The hex map is absolute shit. It feels like the fast travel and map systems were developed by a team that has never played a western rpg. The map being locked to the Wii U tablet is also moronic.

XCX rewards explorations more than any other open world RPG I've played. Experience points for finding beautiful areas, probes allow fast travel but also provide income and items that can be used for crafting, fulfilling quest requirements, etc. Many of the collecathons were easy since I already had the items. Except for the skell license exam, which was awful.

Loved the gamepad, think it's one of the best uses of it thus far. It's like my little guidebook as I explore Mira. Different views can be toggled depending on what you need. I do wish it would show enemy info/stats on the gamepad during battles, but otherwise a big step up from Xenoblade's clunky and slow fast travel system.

It isn't so bad riding in a skell with no insurance if you're a Prospector and have a stack of salvage tickets. That said though, you are right. Give the low-insurance skells to teammates, and get a new one. Usually by the time you run out with a good FrontierNav setup you can earn enough to get a new frame pretty easily.

Well, I finally got those three last booster probes I'd heard about. This is going to be my final probe layout. Very suitable for post-game, but if you've been diligent in probe collection throughout the story, you can get something close in late-game.

Primordia

Noctilum South

Noctilum North

Oblivia

Sylvalum

Cauldros

You'll notice that my numbers have dropped slightly from my last post. HOWEVER, one number you don't see has risen dramatically. Allow me to show you...

So yeah, those three boosters I got all went straight to Noctilum for extra storage. With a whopping 104550 miranium storage capacity, I've officially reached set-it-and-forget-it status. As you're setting up probes early on, the main things you'll want to keep in mind are as follows:

  • Don't be afraid to experiment with various probe grades to see what works better and what doesn't. In the early- to late-game, it's wise to save before playing with your layouts.
  • Focus your chains on higher ranking sites. There are exceptions, however; with mining, sites with resources take precedence, and with revenue, sightseeing spots take precedence.
  • The duplicator in the east Oblivia junction point is where the majority of your overall revenue will come from. Find those sightseeing spots and buff the setup as best as possible.
  • Generally speaking, you want to prioritize sightseeing spots over revenue grade. An E-2 (rank E with two sightseeing spots) has better revenue potential than a B-0, for example. Probe grade plays heavily into this, however.
  • When placing mining probes, always prioritize sites with the rarest resources. These are Dawnstone in Primordia, Cimmerian Cinnabar in Noctilum, Ouroboros Crystal in Oblivia, Parhelion Platinum in Sylvalum, and Bonjelium in Cauldros. Higher grade probes will yield bigger hauls per cycle. You can always sell them for extra cash, and once they start auto-selling, they'll boost your effective revenue significantly.
  • Northern Noctilum has the best layout for storage probes. Focus your efforts there. Until you hit around 80k storage, you'll want to try to get your miranium income per cycle to always exceed your storage (unless you're prioritizing revenue).
I think that pretty much covers everything. Happy probing!

Huh. I don't know what this means yet. Sigh. I need to play more, I only played 4 hours last night. So is Pathfinders a bad choice?

There isn't really a bad choice. Go with what makes you happy for now. In the late you might find a very specific reason to switch to one division over the others. Or not. The game is perfectly playable from any of them and can be beaten in many different ways, do what you like and then if the need strikes you later, you can always change to whatever other division.

Upon testing this Ares 90 in vanilla, it's still powerful enough to one-shot Elvira, that one level 90 tyrant in Drop Shaft in Primordia. I tested it this time with Luciel, that Millesaur tyrant. Too bad it can only deplete about a half of it's life with that laser. And it destroyed my Ares 90 in 3 hits lol. I guess it found its match in that dinobeast.

Get some evasion drive augs for your ground armor and then it will have a hard time touching you.

I've killed it with one Ares. I staggered it with the cannon, then my teammates got in there to bind it and I finished it off.

Probably pretty hard to solo it without a bunch of augments, though.

Sometimes this game reminded me of Tumblr a bit too much...

I think is time for me to move to Chapter 10... I'm already too overleveled but I can't stop exploring and getting normal sidequests done T_T

I'm currently just fooling around with this powerhouse while farming for materials. But yeah I'm also building some stuff to beef up my squad.

I just tried it solo to see how far this thing can go without any augs. I'm glad I finally found a challenger for the Ares beside the Telethia and those with default ether reflects.

I hate that when I give my other Areses to the teammates they tend to deplete the fuel really quickly when we're farming come larger beasts.

Oh and guys, don't even bother with Ares 70. I built one just to see what it's about and it has weaker versions of the very same weapons, and they cost the same amount of fuel to use. Pure voltant I mean garbage.

There are no time/ quest senestive quest right?(im referring to the good quests not the mmo style filler quests) what i mean is that by finishing main quest B i can no longer/fail side quest C, right?

Nope, there are some sidequest with branching paths but beyond that all the sidequests can be done at any point.

Hey, might as well build one just to say that you've made every skell right?

Sakurai needs to change his mind and make more Smash DLC. Namely Elma with her Full Metal Jaguar set. You could switch between dual swords and dual guns, reflecting X's focus on switching between ranged and melee. You could also slide under enemies and sport a very alluring tan.

My intergalactic harem is happening!
If only I didn't mess up my choice in Definian Downfall...
I love the Nopon.

Good good, i hate those. Customizing my character atm, these loads to see the options are insanely slow

Edit: oh yea, they got data to dl to speed up loads, let me go get that

So with Celica now recruited, a crap ton of sidequest done, and my MC at lvl 45 with Lin and Elma at 43 would this be a good point to finally start chapter 10?

I power levelled up to 55 when I got the Skell in chap. 6 and I'm still on chapter 6. Levels go by fast, it's the affinities that are hard to raise :(

Swam to cauldros and jumped up some boulders(no flight yet) just to see what it was like since I hadn't stepped one foot in yet but I didn't last 30 seconds since an enemy base was right there.
It's neat how there are so many different ways to get to a place, you really can go anywhere
