"What's your excuse for not developing on 3DS, good sir ?"

Maybe we can... let the PS Vita have some games ? I mean, from time to time.

I mean don't worry guys, remember it's the last PlayStation handheld. Next gen, no one will ever disturb the Nintendo handheld kingdom (damn, how exciting when you think about it).

My hope for Nintendo's next handheld is that the NX is a handheld and Nintendo will devote all of their resources toward development for it.

Imagine if you will, a Nintendo handheld where all development resources are devoted to it. Might be the only thing that can stave off the mobile market.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Last SRW OG was already PS3 exclusive.
(and yes each SRW entries are run by different teams).

I see. Still, since this one is also on PS4 and the PS3 SKU is present, I wonder why the OG team decided to not release it on Vita as well, since recent SRW games showed that there's a consistent audience on the platform. Maybe resources/time issues.

That is a good point. Usually SRW OG series do not have to pay for license fee (which I believe occupies more than half of the project budget) that resources put into is much greater than licences SRW series. That drives up the capacity & makes it impossible to fit to portable games.
Ironically, licensed SRW have like half of budget taken away as license fee so that they have to cut animations & soundtracks compared to non-licensed games, making them suitable for portable versions too (in this gen both 3DS & Vita got licensed SRW games).

Edit: And like I said above they're also stating this is the first entry of 25th anniversary of SRW series, so you can expect 1-2 more licensed entries (and some would come to 3DS & Vita I guess).

Is it so transgressive saying that monster-catching RPGs tend to perform incredibly well on Nintendo handhelds? I do hope publishers are not greenliting PSV games because "let the PS Vita have some games".

More like it's one or another, unless you're willing to point out numerous examples of PSV/3DS multiplat releases. (I only see Time Travellers and Virtue's Last Reward, with none having benefit from being multiplat whatsoever)

Digimon is not a super-niche IP for which the installed base hardly matters, and could benefit from being on the widest popular platform in the monster-catching RPG genre - with both young and older audience too. That's why I do think it might have been a good idea pushing the IP on 3DS as well (multiplat with 3DS, exclusively on 3DS... That wasn't the issue).

I remember reading the same thing a few months ago...
Digimon didn't do stellar numbers even on DS (~200k) so yeah not sure if install base matters that much, they also tried an upport on 3DS and decided to stick to Vita, the end.
My hunch would be that the dev tools for Vita being more convenient and in the long term it makes more sense to develop for Vita with knowledge that could be reused for future platforms, not the biggest factor but maybe a big one that is often occulted

yes, this week is the week of "everything is 3DS", but also the week of "they continue developing for 3DS but they are not satisfied with their 3ds games sales" :p

Btw, if I read that graph correctly, launch aligned PS4 is catching PS3 sales.
So, I ask: why many of us are so sure about PS4 not being able to sell 10 millions LTD in Japan? Is just due to a possible shorter life cycle?? Honest question, becaue me too, I'd say that 7 millions is way more safe as PS4 LTD hw sales in Japan.

Yep, so...
why "we" GAFfers are sure it won't beat PS3 LTD in Japan?

cause PS3 had a low start (price, Wiimania), the turning point was price-drop and Slim model

consider that even if PS3 sold 10mln unit it took around 18 months to overpass GC, which barely sold 4mln units

And frankly Cyber Sleuth wasn't a big increase over it anyway, if Decode is around 75k-80k vs 110k for Cyber Sleuth I think was posted. Both are smaller than the 150k the original Re:Digitize did on PSP.

864. [3DS] Digimon World Re:Digitize Decode <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.06.27} (¥5.480) - 2.429 / 74.396 (34.350 <49,40%>)

18./21. [PSV] Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2015.03.12} (¥7.171) - 5.218 / 123.656 (-36%)

Decode's numbers are up-to-date until the end of 2014; Cyber Sleuth's numbers are only up-to-date for the last time it charted in the Media Create top 20 (so will likely be somewhat higher than that now, though I can't give an exact figure).

Seems Media Create and Famitsu have it vastly different because Famitsu have it at 115k for the whole of 2015.

I see. Still, since this one is also on PS4 and the PS3 SKU is present, I wonder why the OG team decided to not release it on Vita as well, since recent SRW games showed that there's a consistent audience on the platform. Maybe resources/time issues.

764. [PSV] Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin III - Pride of Justice <SLG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.08.22} (¥6.480) - 3.109 / 33.608

733. [PS3] Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin III - Pride of Justice <SLG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2013.08.22} (¥7.480) - 3.344 / 63.567

This one didn't do particularly well on Vita.

Yeah after OG Saga 3 they gave up Vita version on OG series, but I don't think they'll abandon Vita for mainline series just yet.

The Masou Kishin don't sell much anyway (Coffin of the end sold even less than Masou Kishin 3 on PS3 despite being an exclusive) so maybe it wasn't even worth it.

Also OG Saga 3 is not OG Saga Masou Kishin 3 :p (I mean it could be OG Saga Mugen no Frontier 3 !)

Yeah, I remember them saying there'd be several project for the anniversary.

Totally expecting another 3DS game to be announced sometime in late may / early June, then released on August 18 or 25.

Then a PS4/PSV game in November or so.

It won't last as long (the generation).

Ps3 had a nice resurgence when ps3 slim was released. We don't know if that will happen with the ps4.

cause PS3 had a low start (price, Wiimania), the turning point was price-drop and Slim model

consider that even if PS3 sold 10mln unit it took around 18 months to overpass GC, which barely sold 4mln units

because PS3 sold for quite long and quite consistently.

you are probably right.
thanks!

The blog is again giving some hints.

He said the X day is coming.

Some people are speculating that Xbox is leaving the japanese market, others that NX presentation is near.

In the strange case it's the latter, it'd mean NX will be shown in a live press conference, since that's how it would know about it. Just like the Dragon Quest even. Hiska-kun, keep us informed if there are more hints.

I want to much the latter to be the case, I want NX details :lol

I think it's neither (no idea what it could be though), but second is more likely.
They might announce a press conference in the investors meeting at the end of the month, but could also be a surprise one just before.

MS bowing out in a major region (despite the numbers) isn't big?

And hiska, what is the hint in its entirety translated?
For all intents and purposes, MS is already out. This would just be making it official.

I want NX news.

Edit - If the context Hiska added is correct, it may lean more toward Xbox. :(

ついにきった

The X day comes (or will come or is coming...)
Finally cut

There's no Kanji for きった but one expects to be 切った cut.

That's why some people think that Xbox has been cut.

Btw, I think Crinale was japanese native speaker, so he can understand or guess second meanings.

If it's just "X", then it's definitely about Xbox. Unless Sony is remodelling its controllers and removing the X button altogether? :p

And it's way too early for NX news (in my opinion). And I don't see why the blog would take about cuts... unless Nintendo announced a price drop for Wii U on same day? I dunno, I don't see Nintendo announcing anytime soon.
(Still keeping some crow pie handy, just in case)

Xbox had a Kinect focused (lord knows why) bundle in Japan recently, no? Would be quite shocking if they pulled out so soon after that.

Obviously it will be the surprise reveal of Xenoblade X-2, dedicated to cleaning up all the questions people have as well as integrating content cut in the previous game.

Not only that, but in the JP Box thread, MS... bizarrely enough... are releasing "Greatest Hits" labeled reprints of their 1st-party XBO games... in Japan.

... Zoo Tycoon? Greatest Hits? What?... How?

That'd be like Nintendo adding Funky Barn to its list of Nintendo Selects.

Dunno. Seems Xbox related but also kind of irrelevant to the market as a whole or most people, so I don't know why he'd tease that.

Medarot X. Out in June.

You're kidding, but... I can almost see that happening.

Though my money would be on Medabots Boys Mission (just a reskin with male characters :p).

To be fair, I remember hiska-kun explaining (several weeks ago) that the blogger knew people were looking at his blog for leaked stuff, and so it's possible he's either trolling or being misleading on purpose.

So yeah, better not to take that at face value until we have a clearer idea of what it might be.

Retailers are still giving shelf space for Xbox One in Japan?

I doubt Microsoft will stop to sell Xbox One there, but makes sense become online only.

Futaketa is everywhere in that page. So yes, double-digit seems what most people think it gonna happen. Monster Hunter Cross G, maybe? Don't know but of course, I did some research and that "Futaketan" (futa is another lecture for the number two) appears in some Xbox 360 news about its software, and in some pages that even expected double digits last year for One.
