American Truck Simulator gets a release date: February 3rd, 2016

I can't wait for Amero Truck. It's one of the few series that captures the joy of driving, as opposed to racing.

That's actually an excellent point that I've never truly realized until you just said it: the joy of driving versus racing. Maybe that's one of the reasons why this game is so appealing to me, because I love to drive.

I had no idea they'd actually given it a release date since last I checked. Jeez, The Witness, XCOM 2, and now ATS... all these releases sneaking up on me. RIP wallet.

ETS2 with the Xbone controller is my go-to chill game, and ATS is #1 on my wishlist for a reason. Hype.

C0zm1c isn't being serious, that phrase was the official tagline in the first trailer.
Heh, "trailer"

Honestly, although I'm leaning towards this title for the OT next week...

American Truck Simulator |OT| All This Freedom Gave Me A Semi

...the tag line tag line from that initial teaser wouldn't make for a bad OT title either:

American Truck Simulator |OT| It's not driving, it's Trucking

To anyone using an xbox or Steam controller for ETS2: how did you configure it in-game?

I have started to setup bindings a couple of times, but somehow I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel, and missing an option that just gives you some useful defaults.

There is even a dev-approved config for the Steam controller, but I don't know which in-game profile to use it with. None of the buttons even seem to start the engine.

I use a 360 controller.

A=Headlights
B=Windshield wipers
X=Camera 5 (over your left shoulder)
Y=Camera 1
LB=Look left
RB=Look right
Start=Pause
Back=Map

I use a 360 controller.

A=Headlights
B=Windshield wipers
X=Camera 4 (over your left shoulder)
Y=Camera 1

Back=Map

Thanks. How do you start the engine? When you take any of the default options, none of the buttons will actually get the thing moving. I know I could add a mapping, but I must be missing something if none of the defaults have a button for it.

Why does this game look so exciting to me...? I've always had a slight bit of interest in truck simulators but never had the urge to play one like I do with ATS.

If I pick this up, I'll have yet another excuse to purchase a steering wheel for my PC. Hmm...

Just pushing up on the left stick will do it.

It's a strange game, in that it's both relaxing and yet engaging. You can just drive around sightseeing the great scenery or you can drive jobs to earn money to buy yourself more trucks, bling them out, acquire garages, hire drivers to work for you, build up a trucking empire that earns you plenty of money to buy and bling even more trucks however you want. All of that is great, but the driving itself is uniquely interesting. And factor in that great internet radio and well it all adds up to a really neat, addicting, and yet casual simulator game.

While it plays just fine with a gamepad, yeah the game will make you want a wheel more than ever. Euro Truck is the game that finally pushed me to spend the dough on a G27, and I don't regret a penny of it now.

And ATS will most likely be even better than ETS2, lol.

Real Life vs. ATS

Central Embarcadero Piers Historic District - hotel and the Ferry Building, San Francisco

Cascade Wonderland Highway, near Hornbrook, CA.

Well known hotel alongside Santa Monica Beach — at Ocean Avenue.

Ocean Avenue and Arizona Avenue cross. — at Los Angeles - Santa Monica.

Lake Tahoe at the border of California and Nevada. — at Lake Tahoe.

Pier 39 in San Francisco, California — at PIER 39.

Lighthouse near to Santa Cruz — in Santa Cruz, California.

Cross of Las Vegas Blvd and E Flamingo Rd

I'm a bit late... but they also have those two tall buildings that you see when you get off the Bay Bridge in San Francisco. It's pretty updated.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I have never taken a more boring drive than the I5 between SF and LA. Now I can take it any time from the comfort of my couch.

EDIT: the game is going to be $20?? Amazing.

I wonder if there's an option to import control settings from Eurotruck, I've spent quite some time setting up custom controls and sensitivity for the controller.

I have to wonder how high (if even at all) on the Steam top sellers list ATS would be if it had a price so you can actually buy it right now.

Seems like you're losing potential hype buildup and general visibility to the public by not allowing people to get their purchase in early less than a week out.

American Truck Simulator OT 18 Speeds and twin stick you say? Does it come in automatic?

sorry for the bad joke

I would be surprised if you couldn't just copy the controls-file from your ets2 profile to your ats profile

Sorry for double post, but regarding VR support:
Any word on Oculus Rift VR support?

Their VR dev posted this on the official forums yesterday:
Yes it is planed and should be available within days after ATS launch. Unless something bad happens it is possible that it will be available within hours from the launch.

As far as I know they are using the latest SDK. I don't know if that will be compatible with CV1, but I can't imagine that they wouldn't update to sdk 1.0 when it is ready.

Probably one of the first games I'm going to try (after Eve: Valkyrie, for the wow-factor) when I get my Rift.

In April :(.

I had no idea this was coming... this looks amazing. I enjoyed Euro 2 but I love the idea of this being in the US and they use the states as DLC add on packs.

$20 entry fee is smart!

American Truck Simulator |OT| Get the truck out of Europe!

That's actually not bad, I like it a lot to be honest. I've narrowed the OT down to three choices now, all of them are good IMHO:

American Truck Simulator |OT| All This Freedom Gave Me A Semi
American Truck Simulator |OT| It's not driving, it's Trucking
American Truck Simulator |OT| Get the truck out of Europe!

Maybe I'll just roll a dragon dice to pick one randomly, lol.

I'm leaning towards the bolded one. Seems like it would get the most attention, and I am never down on a well crafted penis joke.

pre-ordered the game, i hope when they expand the game they make it possible to travel across all states also they add those extreme dangerous jobs i watched on discovery channel

I'm going to go with "It's Not Driving, it's Trucking" since it is the tagline in the trailer.
It's the one I like the least precisely because of that. Its a personal preference thing, but when an OT sounds or looks to much like a PR piece it creeps me out a bit.
