EDIT: On a serious note, I do hope no one is fired over this. This feels like such a huge leak and has had so much fan demand that this would have been so exciting to see in a Direct. If it's not scheduled for until June, I could easily see them having another message from Itoi like they had for Earthbound Beginnings. I remember some recording it and some long time fans were genuinely crying that this was finally happening.

Man, can you imagine? The entire trilogy available worldwide, translated into English, on demand, for like... $25 or so. Even five years ago that was a laughable idea.

I really am curious how localization will work here, though... that's the exciting part.

Hm, Emily's backtracking doesn't really work when we've had other people confirm her leak already. I appreciate the intent and all, but it's a bit late to try and save her source's skin now. Seems pretty apparent now that she should have known it could have gotten them in trouble.

Uuuuh... I really like this one. And I'm one of those purists that would rename EarthBound to MOTHER2 forever, if I could.

Calling MOTHER "EarthBound Beginnings" for the western release made sense, because it meant a smoother "welcoming" of sorts, and an homage to the original localization. But for MOTHER 3... I really hoped they released MOTHER1+2 too, so uncensored, better translated versions were available too. From a business point of view, it means selling the same games twice, giving EarthBound to nostalgics and MOTHER2 to everyone else, released with enough time between versions to make it work. And, it could also mean translating the 3 games to languages other than english, so everyone wins!

But... "EarthBound Goodbyes" is pretty darn cool.

Probably. Probably didn't think through her tease which set off a torrent of other "confirmations" which is dominoing backwards.

Well, technically they're not being fired for the "vague" tweet. They'd be fired for what was a clear violation of NDA, in leaking the news at all. The tweet, and subsequent replies by others all but confirming it, are confirmation of there being a leaker.

But at the very least her vague tweet caused other seemingly reliable people to confirm a rumour about this release. Backtracking from that doesn't really work.

I hope so too. There are quite a lot from the NES and SNES era alone that would be great to see come over, like Marvelous: Another Treasure Island.

I also wish that Glitterberri article about Marvelous wasn't under password because it was a good interview with a very young Eiji Onozuka (now Eiji Aonuma).

Emily's clearly been in this thread. She's probably trying to dislodge the two major criticisms thrown against her: that she put someone's job in jeopardy, and that she spoiled what had the potential to be a true megaton.

Can't comment on the first point, but I've formed an opinion on the second.

i hope no one is actually in trouble here. okay, yeah, ndas and stuff but i'm a softy.

more to the point, i think it's fucking stupid as fuck that it took so long for mother 3 to come over. a mother trilogy on the ds or 3ds would have done just fine and people would have been thrilled to get two games they didn't have before. they could have even had it available as separate pieces digitally at the same time if you already played earthbound.

i don't see this as a megaton, but a mistake that should have been fixed years ago. i'll toss it on the pile with disaster day of crisis and last window.

I don't dislike Emily Rogers, I really mean it, but she does stuff and then puts her foot in her mouth and says she won't do it again and then just does it again anyway. Every time I read her name in a thread title or something like that I just feel exhausted.

Worth noting that the game is awesome and I really do hope it's coming, all this craziness aside.

I'm not a lawyer, but here's how I interpret it.

To prove there's a clear violation in NDA, Nintendo would have to legally prove that her tweets were about Mother 3 localization -- and not about Mother 3's 10 year anniversary (which is public knowledge).

I've played EarthBound Beginnings and EarthBound is one of my 3 favorite games of all-time, but I've never played Mother 3.

I'm not talking about the court of law. All I meant was her "tease," plus the subsequent confirmations from others, tells Nintendo that there's a leak.

EB has already been translated for like 30-years. It took minimal effort to get it onto the eShop. Nintendo's "tease" in 2014 was more a "joke" than a "tease" (at least without the power of hindsight), and their near subsequent silence since only strengthened that perspective.

I could definitely see Fire Emblem (or at the very least Marth's two games and Roy's game) get the treatment. FE is a big deal now, and it has the same Smash cred Mother 3 has gotten.
