Opened a tab and it crashed.
Opened a new window and it hung. Tried to close and wouldn't. It died and when I tried to open another all logins are forgotten. Then it said profile can't be found out load.

If I close and open its rinse and repeat.
The hell is this?

This is probably related to the new tab behavior. It doesn't play nice sometimes with certain video card configs etc. If you can access about:config try changing browser.newtabpage.enabled to false

Or use Chrome as probably everybody else in this thread will suggest.

I got a window open and just idling it crashed.
Opened up task manager and for some reason a bunch of duplicate flash and plug-in containers are running.

Stinky dumps.

I updated my Firefox about a month or so ago for some reason, and now it has a heart attack any time a gif loads at all on a page. Pretty much impossible to scroll through any thread that has 2+ gifs or images. Thinking whatever they did in version 40+ broke some things.

Same here.

Thought this was just me, and this never used to happen.

I was always the first to defend and stick with firefox, but after v28, it got significantly worse. Even after putting up with it, for me also in the end it just became too sluggish to be worth keeping. Ultimately for me, the issue was the program window itself wasn't running at 60fps. It was actually more around 25-30fps no matter what I did. Reinstalling and tweaking settings didn't really seam to do much or just made it worse, and I'm almost positive I had a fresh windows reinstall in there too somewhere and it didn't help it either.

In the end, I just went to chrome. Not having youtube center sucks, multiple processes per tab is lame, and no way to save tabs on exit is awful, but at least the browser is silky smooth 144hz and performs okay otherwise.

Just go to chrome honestly.

You can have your old tabs reopen with you start chrome. Unless you are talking about something else?

Sounds like malware and if flash processes are opening probably adobe flash exploits.

Flash is notoriously terrible and doesn't come packaged with Firefox.

Firefox updated itself yesterday and now it won't load any pages. If I close it and open it again it won't launch. Tried reinstalling already.

I thought the frozen gif thing was just me as well and was blaming the hdd on my shifty Lenovo. Maybe I'll try chrome but I don't want everything tracked by Google

I haven't had any issues besides the memory issues when switching to a page full of GIFs. Eg, loaded a page full of GIFs, go to another tab, then come back to GIFs page.

Did you get Firefox 64bit?

Each tab is now a different process instead of a different thread.
That's not official yet. I think it will release in FF46 or something. At least, according to this page.

I'm on the Firefox Developer Edition and didn't notice any issues. I think the scrolling on my SP2 has gotten better

Those of you that have the problem with gifs, try disabling hardware acceleration. It's in the options under "Advanced".

I'm still using v28. Tried 29/30, and it wasn't my cup of tea even after using Classic Theme Restorer - just too many random issues. v28 still works surprisingly well for me, but I know I have to ditch it eventually. I'd like to move to something like Cyberfox, which still has a pre-Australis UI option. Maybe Waterfox or Pale Moon.

I don't really like Chrome's whole interface and settings, hence why I groaned at the Australis rollout. Save me, Vivaldi!

All about Chrome to sync bookmarks and Cast tabs to my Chromecast. You mean I can stream Plex to my living room for free? Yes, please!

I've also had some trouble recently with GIF heavy pages, when I previously did not. Middle click scrolling was previously awful on long pages, extremely stuttery. Not sure if it was a fresh install or an update that cleared it up, but thankfully it seems to be better now.

I noticed Vivaldi had extension support now so I've completely switch over to that I think. It's been a few days and my issues have been tolerable considering the customization and features the browser allows over others.

Hmm, Plex is already free if that's all you want to do, without any tab casting shenanigans. You only need to buy a license if you want to stream to your phone or whatever, you can stream to Chromecast (controlled by your phone) without it.

Same, and I moved to firefox because Chrome was bad with gifs a while ago.

Funny, I searched everywhere for people having gif problems (exactly the same for me) and couldn't find a thing... obviously it's not just me. I wonder what the hell they did.

I much prefer Firefox ESR which receives less frequent but bigger updates long after they've been tested and ironed out in regular Firefox.

It's still on 38 and upgrades to 45 at the end of May.

Firefox has been acting like garbage for a while now. Likes to hang and sometimes even crash when loading gifs in the forum. That never happened before.

I'm scratching my head over people having problems with Firefox and recommending Google Chrome. FF runs better than it ever has on my PC yet Chrome is always a clunkly slow to load PoS for me. I tried everything to fix Chrome but it just won't cut it.

Yep, same as the others, I used to be a hardcore Firefox fanboy. It's still my favorite browser in terms of layout, rendering and addons, but it's been slowly going to shit over the past year. I just interpret it as good guy Firefox weaning us off her teat and preparing us for when she's no longer around.

45.0b4 64bit running fine here

but they did change how FF is loading gifs a few months ago and it does indeed freeze for a short moment in threads with many huge ass gifs.

On 64 bit browser?

I updated 64 bit browser and never have gif lag since.

[edit] Ah right look like just firefox thing with new version on gif format.
I was talking about the common gif lag problem, whereas many still using 32bit browser on 64bit OS.

Yup, it sucks on NeoGAF. Big time. So many "beachballs" in recent months.

Firefox seems to want to load the entire GIF before rendering that part of a page, rather than show it as it loads like it used to. That can mean waiting 10+ seconds while the browser hangs when someone decides it would be fun to drop a 30 MB reaction GIF into a thread.

It's made much worse when the GIFs come over an https connection.
