iOS Gaming March 2016 | Your backlog grows in tiny bits

This does seem to be dragging a lot longer than I'd hope, I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Keep in mind that playing games - win or lose - does NOT earn you XP towards leveling.

The only things that do are:

1. Leveling up your cards (collect enough, then pay the gold to take them to the next level)
2. Donating cards to clanmates (+1/2XP for commons, +10XP for rares)

There might be a third way but I'm blanking on it.

Speaking of Out There....I was too hyped with Lost Socks to remember to post it...but for the ones that couldn't see it live you can see the MiCLOS event here, TONS of new things to look forward, in particular the new Multiverse update late this month or early April.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0klzjYi-O24

And speaking about indies....it really warms my heart to see Lost Sock finally featured.

So the Clash Royale clan is now full. Really wish the limit wasn't 50.

For those already in the clan: because we don't get a "last login" date, I'm going to be monitoring donations (which reset weekly) and chat. Anyone who doesn't donate and I don't see active in chat will likely get a boot.

For those not already in the clan, we'll try to post here (or in an eventual OT)when we clear space so people can apply with a codeword so we know they're legit.

Found the Clash Royale OT

http://neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=1192895

They appear to have started a "GAF" clan.

And I fully support purging the clan every so often of non donators and inactive players. It will definitely keep the clan healthy.

No, it's this game: Into Light by Firelight Games Ltd
https://appsto.re/us/PhY45.i
That does look interesting
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIko3SiDuC4
Looks like it's also a first-person Myst-esque game, where you can explore
Each room you enter brings new challenges; solve anagrams and letter puzzles to open up different paths, light candles in the right sequence to raise and lower bridges and solve increasingly elaborate gate puzzles to open mysterious doors that lead through to the next room.

As the magician draws you deeper into the caves, you begin to wonder if he’s really leading you back to the light. And you can’t shake the feeling that something is following you…

“Into Light has a distinct look and feel and tells its story in a unique way”, said game director, Dan Mayers, “As you move through the world you begin to realise that what happens in the labyrinth is being mirrored by what’s happening above the ground. That you’re navigating the journey of two people caught up in war, and their struggle to find a way to safety. We can’t wait to see what people think.”

Close to the last level on Love You to Bits and it still hasn't lost its charm. Every level having a different them and the collectible relics of their relationship in every level really keeps things from getting tedious. Surprising that this hasn't gotten more attention here.

Folks in the last thread were pretty pleased with it, and it even inspired this month's title, so there's definitely some love. Lost Socks and Clash Royale stole some thunder, though, so I can see where you're coming from.

I love the game. The levels were highly imaginative and I enjoyed the micro-stories behind each collectible ranged from funny to downright heartwarming. I can't wait for the next levels and, hopefully, the next game.

That Lost Tracks game looks interesting, but the first time I tried to play it it crashed almost immediately, and the second time I played it I made it a little bit further before I fell through the ground.

Oh my god, I didn't think I would enjoy Clash Royale so much. A F2P card game from a series I have never played and which probably only gets hyped because the main series is popular? I don't know.
But yeah, let's try it to know what the fuzz is about and maybe I won't feel so out of touch and have something to talk about with my nephews.

After playing it a bit, I can see why the people here are excited about it and why it reviewed so well (the toucharcade review finally convinced me to try it). The gameplay is right on the middle ground of being simple but complex enough to be engaging. It seems like the rock paper scissors mechanics are done quite well.
Supercell was also smart enough to built in match streaming right away, I am impressed.

Unfortunately, the F2P mechanics made me stop again. I have won 4 chests so I don't want to play more just to waste good stuff I unlock because I don't have any space anymore. I can live with the other F2P mechanics but this one is rather annoying.
I would happily pay premium for a non F2P version of this game but I guess that's not where the money is today in the mobile market.

Can't wait to unlock the clan mechanic and join you guys.

Saw your article on The Light Inside Us. Assuming you played it, what did you think? Sounded interesting.
It's not exactly a looker, but it's pretty fun so far. Not too difficult so far, but enough challenge that I've died a few times on a few levels. Controls are simple, and weapons + level layouts make some nice arcade-y strategy

Since you change weapons when you pass over a colored tile, positioning and funneling enemies is important, since if you retreat carelessly, you might swap weapons and not be able to effectively handle the crowd

Not a classic, but definitely a unique fun mobile game. Would definitely include in the Best of IOS 2016 thread. And no IAP

Achievements give you king points too.
Unfortunately I reached level 3 when the Neo GAf clan was already full. :(

Alright....Pitta is right. Lost Socks is indeed glorious. Easily worth $5 and one of the best games I've played on iOS . Very polished, possibly the prettiest game I've seen also. It is a must buy.

I've just finished all the available levels. I agree it's charming and the levels are well designed in theme and are fun to play through, but... there's no ending. The levels just run out and you've not collected all the parts. It's a well polished game, but it feels like they ran out of time and decided to get part of the game out rather than finishing it off.

Not sure what the intent was there, perhaps they were wary that having you collect all the parts would mean they couldn't add more levels later as the "story" would be over, but I'm sure they could work around that. Strange decision. I enjoyed the game a lot, but it's weird for the levels to just run out and stop like that.

Clash Royale is fun as hell but the chest timers almost kill the game for me. I realize they have to make money but come on now...

I'm surprised to see that none of the major mobile gaming sites have reviewed Lost Socks yet. Definitely deserves the exposure.

I like it this way, tbh. This way I can set up an 8 hour chest while I'm at work and not feel like I'm not progressing. Or while sleeping. I don't want to play the game non stop, you know? Got other things to do.

That's because most (if not all) of the major mobile gaming sites suck.

Shame about the whole Pockettactics fiasco. I used to trust their reviews. Not that they would be likely to review Lost Socks.

As far as I can see, it's the only featured game that it's premium, among 15 titles or so.
Man, that's really sad. I hope the f2p bubble bursts sooner rather than later.

Man, Templar Battleforce is so good. I'm glad I took the plunge. One of the best SRPG's on iOS. I wish they would use a free to try approach so more people could give it a shot.

Sure, it's not as fancy looking as Warhammer Deathwatch, but it's a much tighter, better designed game (imo).

People on Steam love it. It has like 96% positive reviews.

Awesome game!

Hey guys! Reilly from Risky Lab here. (Warbits developer)
Sorry for the wait, we ran into some unexpected bugs (from fixing other bugs).

It was just approved for testing so I'm going to give it a quick once over and get everyone invited.

Yeah! I'm not even sad that the game JUST went on sale. Well, maybe I'm a little bit sad. ¬¬

Welcome to GAF! Been following the game for months on TIG, it's great to finally be playing the beta.

LOL. Didn't even know it went on sale. Oh well, you win some and lose some. Worth the full price anyway IMO.

The Trese Brothers are great devs with outstanding ongoing support for their games (even if the number of updates can get overwhelming if you're cramped for space).

Awesome news, this totally answers the question I asked earlier :) Excited!

Oh also... I hope you guys are good because the AI just learned how to used powers and the later levels (Anything after Sector 3-2) are not balanced for it at all :|

I just got my butt kicked.

Alright, just sent out invites. I also sent invites to our slack channel for feedback/bug reports, if you need that sent to a different email address PM me.

Got it! Thanks!

Now I just have to hope TestFlight is working for me. Was having weird issues with it during the last game I beta tested.
