So many space games

All the No Man's Sky previews got me hyped for it and got me thinking about how the space sim/game genre is just thriving nowadays. So many good games out now, and coming in the future

Elite Dangerous | Evochron Legacy | Rebel Galaxy | Into The Stars | Space Engineers | Kerbal Space Program

I've a feeling that Stellaris will be the best space game since Homeworld (and I mean the original 1999 release date, not the remaster release)... Perhaps I'm setting myself up for disappointment with expectations like that, but Paradox are just so good at supporting their games that I'm not too concerned at all.

I've been building a music playlist designed for voyages through space for when I have some serious time to dive into these games.
I won't ever have time

I don't know which one to get into. I don't care for full-on sim, but I also don't want it to be to arcadey.

I used to play a lot of X-Wing back in the day, but I know it's changed a bunch.

I love that the genre is coming back, especially with the graphic technologies of today. I never got to get into it back in the day, mostly due to not having a capable PC until those games were not easy to find anymore.

I've been playing Elite: Dangerous for a little over a year now and I love it. I play it every week. I do have some beefs with it, but I also like the new content coming. Landing on planets is really nice.

Star Citizen also interests me, but I'm iffy on how that one will turn out. I haven't picked up the Alpha yet, but will sometime.

No Man's Sky, I'll wait for reviews on that one.

Wings of Saint Nazaire. Last I asked the dev back in December, it's still in development, but it's coming along slowly because the dev was working on his Master's thesis

It's kinda funny how industry trends move like a pendulum.

In the Atari era there were TONS of space games, it was the norm. I guess it was a hold over from the whole space race media blitz.

But a lot of people assume gaming really got its start with platformers since they forget anything before the NES.

But it's quite the time to be alive when Space games and VR both come back and intersect with each other. I can't wait to see more.

Kerbal Space Program was actually my GOTY from last year.

Went and bought a HOTAS set up in anticipation of No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, and Elite.

Posting, because only people that read alpha OT have seen it.

Holy shit. Never seen body parts be so physicallyr eactive to the environment without the whole thing rag-dolling.

There's also Endless Space 2!

I've been a bigger sci-fi fan than probably any other genre growing up. The last few years have been so excellent in that regard. Space-trucking has never been so well represented in games.

One my favorite genres when i was young, Wing commander, Colony Wars, X wing/Tie Fighter, Star Raiders on the 2600. I think it's great to see the resurgence of the genre on PC and console. Hope today's young gamers fall in love with them as I did.

Elite Dangerous was my first space sim and it blew me away, so it's happening :)

Had a blast with Rebel Galaxy and KSP. Now I need a solid Sins of a Solar Empire style RTS but nothing I have tried since then doesn't even come close which is a shame.

Dat No Man's Sky is all I need! Everspace looks pretty rad too though.

It's essentially the same concept as Elite Dangerous, so you should give that a try as well.

Yeah, I have Elite Dangerous. It's pretty rad! I need to get the expansions though.

I've been waiting for this for so long. I was absolutely convinced that there was a severely underserved market for years and years but virtually no developers/publishers bothered with space games.

So yeah, it was great to see the Star Citizen crowdfunding project take off like it did.

ENEMY STARFIGHTER WHY ARE YOU NOT OUT YET

Enemy Starfighter has been in development for what, four years now? Five?

It's pretty awesome. I have about 600 hours into Elite Dangerous. I'm hopelessly addicted to playing a space sims with a HOTAS and trackIR. I'm desperate for VR as well.

I was worried this was a complain thread but I'm overjoyed to see this many space games fans - and so many titles to check out

When it comes to games, the only thing I complain about is that there are too many good ones coming out and not enough time or money to enjoy them all

Subnautica is the complete opposite
Considering NMS will have deep dark oceans with sea life and underwater caves, Subnautica might have a rival in the alien ocean department

Quite the resurgence, indeed.

I wish I was more into these types of games... tried an hour's worth of Elite Dangerous on XB1 and though it was tough as hell traveling to a different system was super rewarding. Definitely respect the genre.

Would love to give NMS a try but I'm going to have to wait until I have a platform to play it on.

The successful resurgence of a long dormant genre like this can only mean one thing:

Arcade racers are coming back next! I want the real Burnout 4!
