These look great.

And will be pulled from shelves days after release after some kid pokes their eye out.

I find it hilarious how Twilight is the one with a weapon that's attached to her body, when she's the one who would need a weapon the least, and she can't even move this one around. Besides, if anything, she should have gotten a sword >_>

Friendship is Magic #39
This was a pretty cute chapter, though I think I preferred the first half. It was odd how the turul was used, with it leading Twilight and the others to the kids, meaning that the first time we see it isn't actually the first time the characters in the story saw it. The reset button on all the kids being friendly was inevitable, but I thought Snips and Snails explicitly saying that they wouldn't hang out with the CMC was a bit too much.

It did bother me how some panels didn't lead into each other well. One that sticks out to me is when Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon are suddenly and inexplicably covered in gummy worms and chocolate frogs, and the food is gone next time they're shown. Soon after, those two are walking away from the rest of the group, but they are with the rest in the next panel without anything signifying motion.

Bunch of stuff from the Toy Fair.

Season 6 coming in May! Not April like I was hoping, but this works too.

Guardians of Harmony gets logo, also has Soarin', Spitfire and young Spike

Equestria Girls Minis with Fall Formal theme, and pony toys tying into SEASON 6 SPOILER HORSE
Equestria%2BGirls%2BMini%2BDance%2BParty%2BPlayset.JPG

I once again have to say that despite my distaste for the Equestria Girls designs, these minis are adorable. Flash Sentry still looks lame, though.

Equestria Girls movie coming in fall, Legend of Everfree
CbBcP8lVIAAv551.png

Story details. Quoting ED, but rearranging bullet points for clarity.
* The theme is Equestria Girls going to camp
* The plot of the movie is Camp Everfree closing down, and the Equestria Girls use their new abilities to throw a "crystal gala" fundraiser to save it.
* Camp Everfree apparently has a fashion theme.
* 10 Minutes will be released on Youtube before it goes up
* Netflix gets it before Discovery Family
* The new revealed character is named Gloriosa
* All toys will be arriving in Fall of 2016
The story as described sounds ehhhhhhhhh, but we know there's going to be something supernatural going on. Lyra and Bon Bon are part of the toyline, so maybe they'll play a part in the movie.

And lastly, apparently Emily Blunt was announced for the 2017 movie! EDIT: Like I thought, she was put on Box Office Mojo a while ago, so I guess someone put her there early.

Looking forward to the start of season 6 in May, though again not subscribed to Discovery Family lol.

Please no mid-season delay! ;_;

And it is pretty good that Hasbro is doing a MLP line-up that is also aimed at young boys.

As for the EQG news, I'm at least glad that the main setting isn't likely going to be Canterlot High this time considering it is camping-themed film. Though if Josh Haber turns out to be the writer, I'll likely keep my expectations low; Friendship Games was a step back from Rainbow Rocks after all, although I do prefer Sunset's design from the former film.

Thank goodness it's coming to Netflix first; won't be able to wait it out now! :D

Still pretty much worried how the MLP movie will perform, seeing as Thor: Ragnarok shares its release date and Marvel Studios has a great track record of box successes.

I'll look out for the movie since i like that Universe (mainly because of Sunset lol)

Season 6 should be interesting but i should continue my catching up run before that :D

Lots of interesting stuff going on there. The Guardians of Harmony line looks great; if I did toys, I'd be keen to support those. The EG minis are pretty great too, I love the visual style they went with.

Legends of Everfree sounds pretty okay, as the EG stuff tends to. Glad to hear it's heading to Netflix, ought to be easier for a lot of people to watch there.

Season 6 animatics were shown at a closed-door press event. Details are likely a bit off, but here's what ED has so far. News post 1, post 2. Note that the article names themselves may count as spoilers for some.

* There is a new griffon character named Gabby. Her story involves the idea of griffons being able to get cutie marks. Note that it's unclear if this means griffons actually have cutie marks or something like that, or if Gabby wants there to be something like that, or something else.
* There is another Hearth's Warming episode, with background characters joining the main six in decorating.
* The main six and the CMC, at least, sing a song in that episode.
* There is a scene where Derpy drops some boxes on Rarity, resulting in a Christmas star on Rarity's head. Derpy hides behind a branch.
* The episode involves dragons, including ones that appear to be female.

In toy news, collection of Nightmare Night costumes from "Luna Eclipsed" coming. I was about to say that it's amazing that it took four years for this to happen, but then I vaguely recall that they already made toys for this. Did they?

Fourth Luna Friends Forever, and we've only gotten two Celestia ones.

And for some bizarre reason there still hasn't been a Celestia and Luna issue.

Likely season 6 episode title included in upcoming Shout Factory DVD description.

"Flutter Brutter"
This is very likely the episode involving Fluttershy's brother that was mentioned previously at a convention. I'm assuming this is the mysterious Pop Fly from the Christmas album. And as a random guess, the reason why we've never seen him mentioned before (not that they've needed one before) is that one of Fluttershy's parents recently remarried and he's her stepbrother. Anyway, given the release date of the DVD, 6/7/16, this episode should be coming early in the season. And as history has shown, Fluttershy episodes with terrible forced rhymes in the title tend to be good.

So is this show still a kids show with an adult following, or has it done a GaoGaiGar and moved towards being more geared for the adult, and largely male, fans? The foghres I saw a few posts up seem to suggest the latter.

It's been really subtle. The first season was limited by its ei rating, which Faust said was even stricter than a TV Y. But after that, they leaned away from the ei rating. It's still a very light hearted slice of life show, but they've definitely pushed the envelope as far as what to expect in a My Little Pony cartoon.

The former. It's gotten more complex and lore-heavy over time (as most shows tend to after five seasons), but it's still very much the same show now as it was in 2011.

Interesting. Seems like a triple-whammy of
Flurry Heart, Starlight Glimmer and a wintery catastrophe
. Wonder if
Wendigos
will be involved in the latter?

Sounds like Cadance will be sidelined from the adventure yet again. The Mane Six have to save the Empire. Can't let Cadance join in the fun. Maybe she'll get to do her magic beam in the last 2 minutes of the episode.

All of the princesses aside from Twilight Sparkle are merely to be used as plot devices.
Besides Cadance just gave birth, she's earned herself a rest.

Like UberTag said, Cadance just gave birth. I wouldn't expect a new mother to be doing anything. This is probably the only time I would give a pass for the uselessness of the princesses besides Twilight.

Sounds cool

all in for the Starlight Glimmer stuff but i'm a massive sucker for redemption stories :D
I get the impression they're just going to rehash the Sunset Shimmer redemption arc in Equestria Girls with Starlight Glimmer in Friendship is Magic.
Hell, their names are practically riffs on one another.

Season 6 premiere promo.
Huh, I guess that animatic of Starlight on the train actually was real. I'm surprised that they're combining two (or three) seemingly distinct stories for the premiere: the stuff with Flurry Heart and Starlight reuniting with her old friend (and the winter stuff). The promo implies that the endless winter is being caused by Flurry Heart, but who knows.

Also confirmed, the season is starting on March 26, making this the shortest gap between seasons. I wonder what was up with the May date, then. A mistake caused by both months starting the same way?

Wow, I really didn't expect this. I suppose it's time to start deciding who's going to make the next OT. I'm still willing, but does anyone else want a shot?

I might be ok with that :p

At least it will be slightly different since she has one friend before her fall, well see how that is handled i guess

LOL @ that look on
Glimmer's face, seems Twilight might have went into overly excited mode

Also is that her friend and is he Harry Potter now?

Another stray thought:
i wonder if there is some significance to the thing he's wearing, is he hiding his cutie mark with it by any chance? Would be interesting if he got the completely opposite poisonous thoughts compared to Glimmer re: having a mark (i.e maybe not a fan of getting one?)

Well enough of my inane rambling

Wow, late March? We've barely had time to settle in for the season break this time!

Looks like

Yeah, I'm looking at the screenshot, but I'm not exactly sure what he's supposed to be.
He's got a beard, and I think spectacles? And like, a Starswirl-esque cape? Wizard-in-training? LARPer?

I think you did a bang-up job with this one and would be happy for you to continue, but I'll put my name in as understudy if you decide you're not up for it.

hmm its surprising the time is considered short, the ones before must have been brutal

man i thought that was his mane due to being on the ground LOL. well he did supposedly went for training after getting his mark so maybe?. Also a Starswirl fanboy would be hilarious to me for some reason.

Also noticed that Cadance's kid seems to be flying so i wonder if a "Twilight sucks at flying joke" will reappear

Looking back the airdates there was very nearly a full year between the end of S4 (May 10, 2014) and the start of S5 (April 4, 2015). That kinda sucked.

It actually could be his mane, kinda tricky to tell. Still, not long to wait to find out.

And I'd love more jokes at Twilight's expense. Some of my favourite scenes with her recently have been ones where she's getting the piss taken out of her.

Wow, much shorter gap than I expected! Gotta mark the date on my calendar.

Also, as a side note, I just picked up all six of these:

I never cared for the weird "Monster High"-ish EG toys, but these are awesome!

I really dig the style they went with for these. The whole "Monster High" bracket always struck me as putting way more focus on sex-appeal than there ought to be for something aimed at the pre-teen demo. These on the other hand just seem cute and fun.

Game of Thrones style trailer for season 6 (official) (original Yahoo video)

Pretty neat, but the thing that really gets me excited is the end.
It zooms in on the Dragonlands and shows a large stone throne, with Spike standing on it, and cowering as a dragon flies overhead. Are we really going to get a Dragon Queen?! (or king, if they want to be lame, I guess) Now, of course, it could just be a Game of Thones reference for this trailer, but I hope there's more to it.

Also, for those not checking the Community thread, we may be putting together a Bingo board for season 6.

Ok, out of morbid curiosity I decided to check out that new book starring Lyra and Bon Bon and...

it was pretty good! My first time reading an MLP book and it was a mildly entertaining read for a kids book.

The book does take place after the events of Slice of Life. Lyra does know Bon Bon's old life as a secret agent. Bon Bon's boss shows up at her doorstep (and knocking that door down) to recruit Bon Bon once again. I guess Celestia must've recognized Bon Bon's actions when taking care of the Bugbear that she (or someone else at the 'castle') resurrected that team and give Bon Bon a second chance even if she doesn't want it lol. Because the power of their 'friendship' is so strong, the boss decides not to erase Lyra's memory a la Men in Black and recruits her into the organization instead much to Bon Bon's chagrin. So once Lyra (with new codename 'Heartstrings') becomes acquainted with the serious yet not-so-serious sometimes SMILE branch at Manehatten she gets paired up with 'Agent Drops' and get sent on a mission to Appleloosa to investigate a Changling problem. We also learn that SMILE secretly gives orders to the Mane 6 to finish some jobs (with them getting a codename F.R.O.W.N. and flower nicknames which I thought was cool and hilarious).

Lyra adapts pretty well as a secret agent sometimes moreso with Bon Bon which is odd since 'Agent Drops' was so calm, serious, and well-trained in espionage when we saw her in Slice of Life. Apparently we get to know more about Bon Bon since it seems she's a shy person who doesn't like attention and loves reading books I guess. Bon Bon tries to brute force her way to completing the mission suspecting the wrong pony to be a changeling (because she wanted to redeem herself after her screw-up with the Tartarus and bugbear fiasco) but Lyra's corrects her and was right. Lyra also catches on to the fake agent trying to call off the mission with Bon Bon not trusting her since she's been doing a great job so far without her help. I'm pissed at myself for not catching on to recognizing the fake agent sooner since Lyra pointed out a personality quirk that I massively overlooked. Also it does bring the question of how in the hay did that changeling know what that agent looked like if that agent was assigned to a completely different location. Anyways they make up, catch 3 changelings in the process by inviting the Mane 6 to a barnyard dance and exploiting a changeling's weakness as researched by Lyra. It was a pretty neat way to tie things off and the two get to stay in Ponyville on the condition that they're now secret agents for life.

So yeah, a fun quick read even though the book is a bit overpriced imo (as I ordered an 800 page used book from ebay at the same price lol)

Good to see someone provide feedback for one of the chapter books. Cost effectiveness is really the main reason I haven't been reading them. Anyway, good to see that the Lyra and Bon Bon book turned out well. I'm surprised that
a good group would go around erasing memories, but secret agents and all that. I like the idea of a group going around exposing changeling agents.
I suppose I should ask, exactly how heavy was the "friendship" between Lyra and Bon Bon?

I'd be interested to check out the other books but imo they are a bit pricey for the content even if I did enjoy myself with this one.

As for their friendship, it seems more like a, I hate to say it, 'best friends' relationship. They do like to spend time with each other and enjoy each other's company in a very platonic way. I didn't see any heavy hints of flirty teasing in the book if that's what you meant.

As for the changelings, apparently Chrysalis is up to no good and her minions are terrorizing Equestria in secret. This irks me a bit since I kinda believed there are friendly changelings like the one that Matilda invited and the agents as well as Lyra view them as extreme bad guys.

Fun trailer. I'm always a little amused by stuff like this; someone (probably multiple someones, actually) put a not insignificant amount of work into that trailer. People got paid to make a trailer evoking one of the most violent and adult shows on TV to promote one of the most family-friendly and generally nicest shows on TV. We live in strange times.

I wouldn't be surprised if the dragon stuff shows up in S6, though the art style in that little segment of the video reminds me more of the hand-drawn map art than the flash art of the show. Guess we'll know soon enough.

OT title suggestion: Game of Pones

This is tempting.

I think anyone expecting sneaky "just friends" *wink wink* stuff from this book were probably being a little optimistic. The show can afford to slip in some cheeky moments in the animation (or in just generally in "Slice of Life", where apparently anything goes), but I doubt Hasbro would look too kindly on it elsewhere.

Berrow is known to have access to episode scripts, so it's possible that much of the Lyra / Bon Bon hinting was emphasized more in storyboards than in the script, which is why that aspect is missing from the book. Of course, she also has no obligation to continue it in any case, and I doubt this reflects a particular shift away from it.

Slightly different season 6 promo, I think the only difference is the scene at the very start, with
Flurry Heart being nuzzled by her parents
.

Upcoming short book that may be based on an episode, like previous similar books have been.
What happens when Maud Pie sells her things so she can give her wacky sister, Pinkie Pie, a gift? And what happens when Pinkie Pie does the same thing for Maud ?
. ED also mentions a dragon book, but we already know that it's a sequel to the "Under the Sparkling Sea" picture book, and thus not based on the show. Now, the description of the book sounds... extremely lame. It's literally just a minute-long gag. Of course, we know from the past that these book descriptions don't really reflect how good the episode is. "Filli Vanilli" got one of these book adaptations and the description made it sound extremely lame too.

I'm glad i peeked into this thread. I'm not as connected with the fandom but still up on new episodes, would have completely missed the upcoming season premiere.

Season 6 episode 3 title revealed, and it matches up with the book I mentioned above. Still the season 5 topic, so I'll leave it under spoiler bars.

The Gift of Maud Pie
Airing: April 2nd, 2016 at 11:30am-12:00pm
Book Synopsis:
What happens when Maud Pie sells her things so she can give her wacky sister, Pinkie Pie, a gift? And what happens when Pinkie Pie does the same thing for Maud ?

Thinking about it, this is probably also the episode that the screencap with Maud and the swanboat comes from. I'm guessing Maud gives Pinkie a present early in the episode and Pinkie goes out of her way to show her appreciation.

The premise seems a bit trite, but it could easily be a winner in the execution. Interesting the way the writers have latched onto
Pinkie's family
, too; wonder if we'll be seeing
even more of them
this season.

Can't say that episode sounds that interesting.

Maude is just the same joke over and over again. She's reserved. She's monotone. I'd much rather see that book synopsis with Fluttershy and Spike on Dragon Island become an episode.

Minor detail, but there could be something worth discussing. A source article for the Game of Thrones video also claims that some new characters will "reveal the mysterious backstory of some of the main cast." It's suspicious that the Yahoo article sourced in the original ED post doesn't mention this, but it would be odd for that claim to just come out of the aether.

We already know that Fluttershy's brother is appearing. Out of the Main Six, she's the one with the most opportunity for a mysterious backstory, since we know nothing about her family--we at least saw Rainbow's father in a cameo. Before "The Hoofields and the McColts" aired, I jokingly theorized that Fluttershy is actually part of one of the warring families. That didn't happen, of course, but there's enough left unknown about her that there could be a twist about her family.

However, there is one main character who already has a mysterious backstory established: Spike. Combined with the new Dragonlands setting in the trailer, I'm thinking it's finally going to happen: actual information about where Spike came from. I just hope they don't drop the ball like with "Dragon Quest"
.
