Lotta people in that PSVR GDC thread are expecting a price and I'm expecting a lot of disappointed people when there is no price.

I mean, that's a reasonable expectation. HTC and Oculus both went there. I could see Sony waiting until E3 BUT I don't expect the price to be an easy pill to swallow, and E3 isn't really the stage for tough sells any more.

When we do get a price, I 100% expect a No Man's Sky type revolt. The people betting on this one being the thing they actually can afford are going to be saddened when they see how much it'll cost with the PS Moves and Camera they're gonna need.

Which Sony is trying to blow out of their warehouse really.

I can see this being cheaper option. I don't know if it's cheaper the way the mass market wants it to be though.

I think it will be slightly cheaper. It should be slightly cheaper. The fact they have to include an extra box for processing the head tracking data is a bit concerning, though, and sure is to add extra cost.

I fully expect it to be at least $399 base price and $499+ with controllers and camera and maybe a demo game. Given a lot of people seem to be expecting the $300 for the full package, there's gonna be a lot of hurt feelings.

$300 is a comfortable entry price. I can't see it being that cheap.

I think for the people on the bubble like me who are tech junkies, but aren't people who will throw $600 at a first gen piece of tech, that's a good entry price. For the mainstream? I don't think $300 + the cost of a PS4 is going to sell it, not without some amazing software at least. I don't even really see that large of a chunk of PS4 owners biting at $300.

The good thing is that these companies don't seem to be really aiming mainstream with these first gens of tech, so that gives them time to get it cheaper. Hopefully Sony has reasonable sales expectations.

That's where I was at. $400 is a touch high without including camera or controllers. Waiting to see how it shakes out and committing to a headset next year is a plan. But Rez VR dammit!

$399 without PS Camera or Controllers. Yep. Too rich for me, but I'm glad there's something cheaper than the frankly a bit hilarious PC VR space. Now I hope Sony can back it up with good software.

$399 is a totally reasonable price, but I can't justify dropping money on both a headset and a Nintendo console this year. Probably going to wait a year and a price cut for PSVR

If anyone is interested in PSVR and doesn't have Move Controllers or a Camera, you might want to grab those now if you can still find a place clearing them out. I fully expect Sony to relaunch those as part of a PSVR line and the price will shoot back to full price.

Yeah, I agree. The price is reasonable but still just too much for me to risk on something with such a murky software situation.

Thankfully I already have the camera but I assume they will sell Move controllers in duo pack for probably 60$...

I fully expect them to sell move controllers individually at $40 a pop. They will end up likely getting cleared out lower, but I suspect we'll start there.

Not including them means most VR experiences will likely be designed around the Dualshock.

Recycling Move is one of the more disappointing developments about PSVR. It's an impressive controller but without a stick or movement input, it can't replicate what the Oculus and Vive controllers do. At the same time, the DS4 has impressive tracking on its own. Maybe you can get by with one DS4 and one Move?

Holding a DS4 one handed is a super awkward and strange experience. Maybe we'll get a relaunched Nav attachment with added tracking functionality?

Though seriously, too many people are thinking that if this doesn't see the same numbers as an established console, it fails. Of course it isn't, that's not how new tech works.

This is a stepping stone. Production will be streamlined and cheaper as it goes along, and the Chinese OEM market will also force prices down. That's how it always works.

As long as Sony has reasonable expectations, they'll be fine. The problem is going to be enticing Devs to come over to a smaller pond of potential sales. I don't think just porting existing games to VR is going to work or sell anyone on the tech.

On the same token, I don't get the Cinematic Mode thing. It seems like a weird stopgap to get people excited about anything. I'm not going to wear a heavy VR headset for hours on end and subject myself to the eyestrain of a screen that close when I already have a perfectly good TV. Having the screen be cinema sized seems more hassle than useful.

Also, Sony's sound solution for PSVR seems to be a pair of garbage earbuds, so if you like good audio you'll also need to add the cost of headphones.

The cinematic mode just seems to be an indication to their original hmd customers to move onto the psvr. Which is hilariously more expensive than the psvr.

Headphones aren't a problem for me. Or a problem depending on how you look at it.

I thought for sure it would at least come with the camera if it was going to be priced at $399. Won't stop me from getting it with the others though. I guess I'm officially a VR junkie, hopefully the content is there to make all these purchases at least somewhat worthwhile.

I wasn't referring to you with the headphone comment. I know about your tendencies, haha.

I do think there's going to be a good chunk of people upset about the sound who're going to need to invest in a new set of headphones, though. A decent surround sound system is standard in many (Obviously not all, but many) gamer's setups, but not many people have a really good set of headphones.

After finishing Game Tapes, it's a shame that it seems nobody likes/loves Heavenly Sword. I really enjoyed that game, it had a great soundtrack, good story and an interesting world. It's a shame that the gameplay is average as fuck, but everything around it was great.

About the PSVR price, it's about lower than I expected it to be but it'll be interesting to see the comparisons of all 3 headsets once they all hit the market.

without a camera dont we get that situation where games cant assume its there and all the positional tracking becomes an afterthought for devs?

bit of a shame as that seems like the best bit for real new gameplay.

hopefully sony require the camera they just don't bundle it because of the number of cameras out there. haven't read the full details been cooking dinner.

edit: are the earbuds terrible though? sonys low end in canal buds are good enough for binaural to work fine.

edit mkII: ok cool good
