PSVR Price: $399/399/£349/¥44,980, no camera/move, launching October

That's the price I predicted albeit I thought they would include the camera and move controllers as well. At least it puts to rest those silly predictions stating it's nothing but cheap sensors and a panel, and expecting $200-250.

Price-aside, it's disappointing that the move controllers aren't included. The DS4 can be tracked, but it's entirely unintuitive for VR, and potentially limiting game design. You want to be able to use your hands independently, grab, and interact with objects. For the record I think Oculus is making the same mistake not shipping with Touch.

So the camera is required, as it says in small print. Terrible quality Twitter video pic.

PlayStation 4 system and PlayStation camera required.

So how much is the total package?

Yeah. But it doesnt work without it. Its like buying a new car without wheels. Yeah you can get in it and sit in it but it isnt going anywhere. I can see this changing before launch. Would be absurd to market to the public as an incomplete item.

Wait. It doesn't work without it at ALL? I thought it just didn't have certain features. What the fuck?

How anyone expected this to be $399 with camera and controllers is beyond me.

Are ya'll on crack or something?

The camera is pretty cheap to manufacture, and it is required as far as I know to even use the thing, so yea I would expect the camera to be in the box at 399 dollars.
Move controllers aren't required so I wouldn't expect it to be in the box.

It's a pretty disappointing price, move isn't mandatory but it's still pretty essential if you want an immersive VR experience.

This isn't going to be a big hit, at least in the beginning.

How can people say, with a straight face, that the PC VR solutions are cheaper when taking everything into account.

The PSVR + Camera + Controllers + PS4 will be about £700

Thats the price of just a headset for PC let alone dropping money on £1000+ hardware to run it
I wonder how many people have VR ready PCs. Gonna guess it's less than 36 million

There will be a bundle no doubt. Amazon already saying about limited stock makes me think it won't be a huge first run though, so they may do the bundles after launch.

I have the camera so adding a camera to the price would have pissed me off a bit.

Lol at Sony shipping a product that won't even work out of the box if you don't buy a camera.

Nintendo style.
There will probably be a bundle with everything you need if you don't have the camera or the move controllers or a PS4. No need to let people pay for something they might already have.

At that price it should include the camera, which is cheap as fuck for Sony to manufacture. No excuses for not including it at that price point, especially when the camera is mandatory.

PS camera is super cheap to manufacture. I understand not including the moves but no camera is a shitty move.

How is it not an excuse? How much does the camera cost to manufacture? How much does the PSVR? If they wanted 399 as opposed to 429 or 449, the lack of camera makes perfect sense.

Lol at some Sony fanboys saying they won already the "VR wars".

$400 with an inferior screen and fov in the HMD, without the camera for positional tracking, and without any controller.
vs $600 of the Rift (with camera, wireless Xbox pad, good audio solution, 2 free games, case to transport it and even a remote control) vs $800 of the Vive (with 2 Lighthouses, 2 controllers, integrated camera for chaperone/AR) isn't exactly winning already the "VR war". It's more like the expected, or even a bit more expensive than that, because I supposed the camera would be included, maybe even one Move controller.

For an American this is true.

For a Euro or an Aus? The Oculus and the Vive are 741€ and 900+€.
The PSVR is always 399€+40€ camera instead.

That's a big price gap.

Do people really want move controllers that badly for this? Between them not really being much better than they've ever been (last gen's waggle in other words) I'm perfectly fine with just having a VR display and a regular PS4 controller for my mitts. But then again I'm not a VR true believer, so the full bodied immersion fantasy doesn't fire me up the way it does for some.

I'll worry about arm simulation once the ones that work really well become cheaper

Even if the camera is required, its good they putting the cost apart from the VR headset. Plus it can be had cheaply maybe $20-$30 if you look good.

Got 2 Waggle things from PS3 just need to invest an extra $~20 for camera and im game :)

EVERY Ps4 controller is a true VR controller, with tracking, silly person. All you need is the camera.

Like I said in the GDC thread:

Too high for mass market appeal. Very disappointing. Will it beat OR and Vive? Sure. Will it introduce VR to the world? Absolutely not.

:(

I think you are 100% right. The question is how fast it will come down in price. 399 for this plus camera and move within 6 months and I can see it taking off.

It's a decent price, but I think celebrating $399 when there's no camera included is just stupid.

It's not the real price of the experience, and that's even without considering the Move controller.

Great. Now that we have all the prices, we can close the book on VR and wait for a new gimmick in 2018/19.
No way this will take off in any meaningful way, it will be a repeat of Vita TV.
Just too expensive for what it offers.

Have you used real VR? Like oculus yet? I am just asking. Because I dont really know of any people that have tried that say it is a gimmick. I can see if you used cardboard or something like that. But this isnt a gimmick. It will be around for along long long time.

Alright, I guess it's about time I ate some crow then. Not that I can put much effort into it right now, as I'm knocked out by the flu. :p

Edit: Hmm, no camera for that price? I included the camera in my prediction, so I'm not quite as wrong as thought. I didn't include the Move controllers though.

Edit 2: Yeah, I withdraw most of that crow-eating. The PSVR is pretty much useless if you buy the $399 version. To get a version that actually works, you need to pay $499. I predicted $499 (and qualified with that it could be a potential bundle). So I leave the crows to the people who thought I was crazy. Up yours!

Nah your still wrong. You weren't even close.
Eat that crow

Cameras usually go on sale and I'm guessing there will be bundles from bestbuy and such. Move is not even mandatory as you can use the ds4. Overall, not bad for entry level on a new tech.
