Wow, yeah I might end up using a pad instead despite there being a cursor with m&kb. We'll see. That's great though.
The nature of the game lends itself better to pad than m&kb. This is mostly due to the fact that your character's direction is tied to where your mouse is. So playing on a pad is easier and more accurate because you don't have to worry about your mouse position.

This thread kind of reminded me that I really had the urge to make a Nuclear Throne community thread since I don't think we ever got an OT for it.

Remember seeing this game way back when and being interested for it. Wondered how the game's been going recently and was surprised when my friend told me today that it was coming out already. Looking forward to try this. With this and Hyper Light Drifter, it's been a good week for indies.

Gungeon GAF impressions:
Enter the Gungeon: Not normally a fan of rogue-likes but I had a blast with this. Picture a bullet-hell game mixed with old-school Zelda and that's sort of what you have here. Awesome game that I can see myself getting addicted to. The developer there exhibiting it was hilarious and seemed absolutely thrilled by my enjoyment.
Sorry for the mini bump. I got to play this yesterday at PAX South and it was my favorite game that I played. Here is my tale.

It felt so good. The game is no slouch.

The first time I played it I did not make it very far at all. The map is procedurally generated and rooms have branching paths so pressing the trigger brings up a map to keep track of where you are. I got through maybe 7 rooms. I wasn't avoiding the enemies bullets enough failed to use the table cover properly when I needed it. Most of my health was taken by a couple of ghosts that disappear and reappear somewhere else in the room. I was able to make it past a couple more rooms even though I only had one heart left before I was taken out. I was in a room with maybe about 5 enemies and flipped a table to block one enemy but another was able to get me from the side to finish me off.

I kept wanting more though so I had to go back later in the day. I did much better that time around. I made sure to use the dodge a lot more since it makes you invincible and made it a lot father than my previous attempt. I ended up finding a big loot chest that the dev was surprised I got since it was pretty rare that it gets generated in the demo. The loot chest was the end of the road for the path I had taken so after I brought up the map I was able to teleport back to a select room instead of having to backtrack. I ended up running out of ammo for one of my guns so I had to hold off getting killed in the room until an ammo crate came flying in. I accidentally picked the ammo up for my original gun instead of the cool non-automatic magnum like gun I had found so the dev spawned in a new ammo crate for me to use. Just when I started feeling good about how far I was progressing, I got to a room where I cleared everybody out except for one enemy who flipped up a table and took cover. I approached him to finish off the area and him quickly moved out of cover and ended my time with the game.

Can't wait for this to come out. I'm there Day 1 without a doubt.
Everything was randomly generated. Every character has a roll, as opposed to the one character in Nuclear Throne. Gunplay was fun and addictive. Didn't get too far in today's playthrough(just made it to the second phase of the dungeon), but enemies seemed to have a good amount of variety. Like it says in the OP, you can flip tables(maybe more items) to create cover. There were also power-ups which used the table in other, unique ways. One was "Flips of Fury", which gave you a little berserker boost when you flipped a table. Not sure if it made your bullets more powerful, but it definitely made you shoot faster. There was also another power-up that, once you flip a table, would transform it into a rocket and launch it forward into any enemies in its path. I fought two bosses; one which was a giant, ripped bird with a minigun. The other was a pair of giant bullets. Both were a blast to fight, giving me a fair challenge. Can't wait to play more.. Probably gonna play it one last time tomorrow. The line for it was long!
Played some of this last night. Great stuff. That dodge roll is revolutionary, imo. I hate the genre, but I love this game. Bosses are crazy hard so far, but maybe it's 'cause I'm bad at the genre
So Enter the Gungeon is really cool; a more tactile and impactful Binding of Isaac.

I hated how nothing in Isaac felt it had weight; you skid about, tears just.. splashed on people and then stuff would die. Here things lumber around, bullets have feedback and your character's jaunt all add up for a nice feeling game.

Do you feel that about every game with preorders?

Sort of, but it's the "NO REFUNDS" nature of PSN that makes this feel a little shittier than most. With retail games it's not so much an issue because if the reviews are dire you can just return the game.

I'm not expecting the game to be bad or anything, I just don't think it's a practice we as consumers should be defending because sometimes a game will turn out to be bad.

The no refunds thing doesn't stand up, at least if you're in the EU.

$14.99 vs. $13.49. Basically they're punishing people for wanting to wait for reviews to hit, which is not a particularly pleasant practice really.

I'm so tempted by this game but I'm in two minds. I hate Binding of Isaac, and I wonder how much like that this feels.

One of the devs of the game said in Hammer's stream that the discount should at least be active a day or two past its release. He couldn't say for sure how long as it's Devolver that's in charge of the discount stuff and not the dev team, but you should probably be save to wait for reviews unless he had inaccurate info.

OT made me bite the bullet and preorder. Looking forward to giving it a shot tomorrow!
I'm so sorry for the puns.

I'm sure the game is great, I just preordered on ps4 but I'm praying that unity is well optimized on the console version. But nevertheless hype! I've had my eyes on this game for quite awhile.

This sold me on it, i was on the fence for a while...

It seems to run fine on PS4 as far as I've seen. The only framerate dips I have noticed where the ones where it got really hectic and it wasn't that bad. I'm pretty sure it is 30fps on PS4 though. Kinda like Nuclear Throne.

Preordered but my hype has waned after watching people play. Pace is more BOI than Nuclear Throne. I like my twin stickers more balls to the wall, I guess.

there is BOSS101 and Monsters & Monocles (which is really really similar to Nuclear throne and Enter The Gungeon) also looks good...difficult choice.

Interested in Monsters & Monocles as well, but personally I've read enough impressions here and elsewhere and seen enough footage to think that Gungeon seems like the most promising,

The little details like plates crashing to the ground when you flip tables and book pages fluttering as you shoot shelves, to the stylish design of the lore encyclopedia, to the three-weapon loadout, to the enemy variety, to the elements that seem to promote a more cautious careful playstyle like limited ammo and taking cover,

9 hours to unlock.

I don't believe anyone's claims on framerate without a proper analysis or proper reputation.

Too much awful information before every single release, every time.

is it a midnight release on PSN? Or is it only when the store updates?

Middnight EST:

Also, patch 1.01 just downloaded and installed on the preload.

Yeah, considering how well the PS4 holds up with Disgaea 5, I'd be really surprised if it can't lock 60 on this one.

It has nothing to do with what type of game it is, people's fears come from it being a Unity game

I stand corrected!

...

Just uploaded 1080/60 gameplay on the PS4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URzR1gO7iX0

The game runs great.

Redeemed!

this really irritates me how a lot of indie releases are getting midnight releases on consoles but not on PC... the ability to do it on steam is there, but devs don't go for it..

why.jpeg

it always seems random. Hyper Light Drifter released at 3 AM EDT, this is releasing at 10 AM EDT. Some indies release theirs at 1 PM EDT, while others will do midnight. Sporadic.

I guess they're basing it on different timezones.
