They won't added sharing buttons when you can buy the chat pad for less than a new controller

The stereo headset adapter existing didn't stop them adding the headphone port to the updated controller, so I don't see why the chatpad existing would stop them adding screenshot/record that buttons to another updated controller (especially since if they added those as hardcoded buttons, people with the chatpad could map the chatpad buttons to something else, assuming the form factor/connector stayed the same and accessories are cross-compatible).

But there is already an Xbox One elite?

Branding confusion much?

They should just go with the "Pro" naming scheme for the upgraded consoles.

Surface Pro

Xbox One
Xbox One Pro

The way I see it, with PS4k/neo all but confirmed, this has to be a more powerful SKU. If not, I don't see any way but down for MS.

The only current-gen console I own is an Xbone. Bought it day one as I've been an XBL sub for 9 years and had a blast with my 360. I think the machine is great and I've amassed quite a large library of great games. However the fact that the Xbone is already less powerful than the PS4 and visibly so in a lot of titles has been disheartening.

Since the PS4k rumours I've been seriously considering picking one up on release. If it didn't exist I wouldn't particularly be bothered about 'making the switch' to a PS console (although I would definitely buy one down the line for the exclusives) however it is now almost irresistible for me.

Unless MS release a '1.5' version, I can honestly see myself jumping ship. Not completely abandoning the Xbox, but definitely buying all multiplats on the PS4k, with it essentially becoming my main console.

That bundle is still branded as Xbox One.

Recycling the Elite name shouldn't be a problem since most people that know about Xbox and Elite think of the Xbox One Elite controller, and not the $499 bundle.

Elite Controller - exchangeable parts
Elite Console - exchangeable parts

You have a slot for the WiFi if you need it (hence the USB type Wifi Chip FCC filing), you have an internal HDD but another Slot for an extra HDD OR BD Drive if you want. (+ USB Ports) and you got a Slot for the SoC/GPU/RAM.

Would love to see a modular console although it's probably not a good idea.

I hope they get rid of the asymmetrical sticks. I hate that aspect of the Xbox controllers.
MS made a shit-ton of mistakes with the XBOX One, but thankfully they didn't make that mistake. They have the best controllers and that's in large part due to the layout of the sticks.

I would be baffled if Microsoft hasn't realised performance matters. Safe to presume it will be powerful and in line with the competition.

Trade in, lol. Consumers are shit on their shoes. Maybe a token gesture like a month of Xbox Live or something for upgrading. Same with Sony.

If they want any sort of momentum or to gain ground they have to at this point they botched everything that made the 360 the gamers go to console of last gen.

I mean, i love my elite controllr and can't play games without it now. Wonder if they will refresh the current elites with this new controller enhancement?

Still so excited for e3 week.

I keep debating on whether it's a good idea to keep the Dusk Shadow controller since it's so beautiful, even though it'll never get used and this revision is a possibility.

New controller explains why the Lunar White one has suddenly seemingly been discontinued in the UK. I'm curious what they'd actually change though, apart from the D-Pad being fairly garbage (the twisty 360 one is much nicer) the rest is pretty spot on.

Interesting

I thought the Lunar White was limited, and bought one when it went on sale at Best Buy. However, my local Walmarts have been flush with them.

I did buy a second one, but I realized I didn't need it and returned it. I have a controller obsession problem.

I bet there was pressure from some big publishers to not have complete gen changes anymore and that is why both companies are doing it.

I think they realized how by going in cycles they always leave a very high chance of losing their install base, while the competition in other segments grew always stronger and lock their users up by building long term libraries.

I'm just surprised it took Ms this long to move towards that, I was sure back then that xbone would be 100% compatible with all 360 games right of the bat.

I'm cool with Xbox Pro.

"Xbox One Pro" wouldn't be bad.

It's not a great name but I really can't think of anything else that would be as good as that.

"Xbox One Elite" would have been perfect but they've already used that for a previous SKU.

The "pro" tag for the Surface meant you could use it for work... unless they try to sell it as a video-conferencing machine, I don't see how they could label an Xbox as "pro".

If you already own an Xbox One you are not the customer they are looking for. If you don't, why do you care?

Yeah and the Elite controller is only for E Sports gamers or a tiny percentage of the gaming audience.

MS couldn't keep up with demand for it. Gamers' love shiny new things and will always buy new tech in huge numbers. We are the problem lol

Pretty much that but you know I've been saying Xbox One Pro and Xbox One + for months. We'll see what happens at E3.

I'm in the camp that says they should jump off the Xbox One brand and set it on fire. Just reboot the brand. A fresh, minimalistic Xbox. Xbox for the new $249 slim, Xbox Pro for the $399 new hardware.

I kinda like just Xbox Pro.

It matters, but I think it mattered more when the $399 PS4 was significantly outperforming the $499 Xbox One.

Now the differences are less pronounced and the prices are more in-line with expectations, I don't think it matters as much.

"Our new console now performs on par with that one you're already buying" isn't exactly a huge selling point. Microsoft needs to re-discover what makes it different/better than Sony IMO. It's been following the leader too long with Xbox One.

Ahhhh...disagree so much.

Although it'd be cool to see a controller that would let you switch the placement of the D-pad and left stick (although I don't know if that's really possible).

Guys - name will be "Xbox One G2" (G2 = Generation 2)

Focus test group:
-Tell me if it is easier to say Xbox One or G2?
" uhh.. G2, duh bruh! kackle kackle"

-Tell me how you would use it in an sentence to one of your friends?
"Hey. Let's get on the G2 tonight. You know that new Xbox, the G2"

-Would you say, it would be easier to communicate which sysem to play on with that type of nickname?
"sure. Can i get a G2 for free now?"

God damn it, and I JUST bought a second XB1 controller for my PC :(

(granted it's a Lunar White one and it LOOKS SO FUCKING GOOD HNNNNG)

I'd love to know how people convinced themselves asymmetric sticks are better. Is it because it makes it feel like you're closer to the symbol buttons on the right? The dpad used to be there on older controllers so it feels reminiscent?

To each their own I guess but I've tried multiple occasions to see if they feel any better. I tried with the 360 and while the triggers etc felt a mile better than the Dualshock 3, it just felt impractical especially when it came to camera control alongside movement. The XBoxOne controller feels solid but the stick placement still kills it for me personally.

Anyway hopefully the new default is similar to the customisable Xbox One controller (Elite?) in terms of the quality and swap out nature of it.
