I hope none of you poor bastards bought Batman Forever for the SNES.

Funny, I was just (re-)reading up on Primal Rage yesterday. It was a much better game than I remembered it being when I first placed it way back when.

I paid around 120 for Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III in the day. Okay, my parents did, but you know, Christmas!

Loved them both and beat them many times.

Did Canadian Tire used to sell games? I could have sworn I got EarthBound from there, but maybe I remembered wrong.

This brings back alot of memories, RPGS were always the most expensive. If it wasn't for game rentals I would'nt have played half as many games as I did.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
These things were like crack for kids around the holidays. I know, I was one.

a) I was expecting more Maple-themed items. This is barely Canadian at all!

b) I feel worse for the parent who shelled out $90 for Garfield: Caught in the Act. Even Batman Forever had those cool digitized characters that were neat for 5 minutes.

Wish I could find a more complete version of the Christmas catalogue. I did find this other page from around the same time, though.

Guess no one wanted Shaq Fu lol.

Saturn prices look reasonable in comparison (thanks to CDs), except for $500 for the console, which is lol.

They definitely had older games in a big pile in a display or whatever. I don't remember buying any new games from there but who knows.

I still get so hyped up seeing these old catalogues. I remember spending so much time staring at these with friends and speculating about what the games might be like...

...and then I discovered full on gaming magazines and my life hasn't been the same since.

All I see here is that Primal Rage was MY SHIT, and therefore priceless.

(My parents bought games at these prices? wtf?)

I remember buying Secret of Mana for C$80 USED.

Games were so so so expensive back then. I bought so many terrible games before I realized Nintendo Power existed and could direct me to what was good and bad.

These Canadian prices was why I lived and died by Blockbusters. 90% of my game catalogue as a kid were from rentals from there from the SNES all the way to early era Wii. Fortunately was old enough to buy used when they closed down. RIP in piece.

Prices don't seem much different than current Canadian game prices :)

Yeah but you have to remember, cartridge games rarely went down in price, and even when they did, the price cuts weren't as steep. Nowadays every game is slashed to half price within a few months.

Giving me some extreme nostalgia looking at the old Secret of Evermore, Doom, Mortal Kombat 3 and DKC2 box arts.

But seriously, I wasted an opportunity to get a game and I asked my mom to get me Batman Forever. I remember a friend and I were completely mystified by the game, and not in a good way.
