How complex is this game? I remember playing Galactic Civilizations 2 at a friend, but was totally overwhelmed by the complexity. Is Stellaris comparable to GC2?
Watching Arumba and Quill play has me so hyped. I've gotten pretty tired over the last year of EU4 and CK2, DLC hasn't really been the best (IMO) and the gameplay has just gotten stale. So fucking ready for Monday. When are reviews expected to come out?

Micromanaging in GalCiv is a pain the ass, especially with all the stations you have to build and upgrade to boost your influence/research/minerals.
I do like the classic space UN mechanics, though.
It's probably at least as complex. But maybe more friendly in that complexity, depending on how well the information is laid out and tutorialized. An article recently went up from someone who seemingly hadn't ever played a strategy game but went to a rather complicated multiplayer Stellaris event earlier this week and emerged really enjoying it. Might be worth a read.
Oh, I think you have to be a subscriber to watch.

Episode and time?Man Austin Walkers Stellaris story on the beastcast is pretty great.
Gerrymandering a sub-species via sector manipulation so they have less voting power and are less of a burden on your empire is fuuuucking evil.
Love it
Episode and time?
Stellaris, the 4X grand space strategy title that Id be playing, sounded complicated. My research also told me that Paradox, the developers behind it, were renowned for making particularity complex strategy games. Safe to say, I was scared.

Strategy game newbies like myself will probably take their first look at the game, even just the starting menus, and think Stellaris looks terrifying.

When we were told to leave the game, all I wanted to do was steal the computer in front of me and go and start Stellaris all over again. In two days this game managed to transform me from someone who didnt care about strategy games, to someone who wants to play them all, starting with this one. To some, this might just be another fish in the genres ocean, but to me, Stellaris has opened my eyes to a whole new world of videogames. One day I will have a PC that runs it, and when I do, Ill create the biggest and best empire in the galaxy, no matter how many hours it takes me to do it.
do any of the let's plays so far have any early encounters with empires that aren't completely useless at war? so far the military ai looks so pathetic that you would probably have to fill the galaxy with advanced empires to get any challenge.
i assume they are playing on pre-release versions, so perhaps these are the same problems that the blorg stream had and will be fixed by monday.
I've gotten the impression that early wars were made intentionally more difficult so you don't immediately get steamrolled.
Didn't most put their difficulty setting on normal? Maybe it'd be different if they put it a bit higher. The ones I've watched so far have all fallen into very favorable sectors of the galaxy, mostly surrounded by friends. That makes it easy just to pick off one or two empires that you just know you're going to crush and snowball a bit. I wonder if they just need to kick up whatever stand in mechanic they have for AE working behind the scenes and have neighboring empires react more negatively towards your conquests.
but based on what i've seen, there won't be anything that can offer any challenge besides fallen empires and late game crises once you've grown enough.
it's just been my experience with strategy games that the early game is the interesting bit and the rest is cruising, so not sure how i would enjoy having to play an entire campaign before things might get interesting.

Do you need to preorder directly through steam, to get the Creatures of the Void DLC, or is any other source suitable too, like for example:

sorry if it's been already mentioned, but at what time it will be available?

I know it was asked at the top of the page but I don't know the game it was being compared to
Is this game closer to Civ V in complexity or more akin to other Paradox games like Crusader Kings 2?
It's starts off like Civ 4 / 5 in complexity and gameplay, and then in the end game turns into an EUIV style game. Best of both worlds!
What do you means turns into EU4?
