Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 reviews and benchmarks

I'm seeing 20 to 30 fps gains...

From HardOCP:

DOOM
GTX 1080 - 52 FPS
GTX 980 Ti - 41.9 FPS

Tom Clancy's The Division
GTX 1080 - 57.2 FPS
GTX 980 Ti - 45.1 FPS

Fallout 4
GTX 1080 - 73.4 FPS
GTX 980 Ti - 58.2 FPS

Witcher 3
GTX 1080 - 54.7 FPS
GTX 980 Ti - 44.5 FPS

The 1080 clearly averages 20-30% more performance than a 980 Ti. Pretty damn good but not 20-30 fps gains on average as you stated.

Pretty nice improvement over the 980ti, but not enough for an upgrade after all, for 1440p I'm still good enough with my 980ti, and for 4k the 1080 doesn't seem good enough for consistent >60fps yet.

I'll wait for the 4k60fps ( maybe 1080ti) gpu to come out and probably double dip on the 4k and 1080ti then :)

I'm not familiar with the gfx card release thing - will the '3rd party' versions of the 1080 be around by August (which is when I intend to do a new PC build)?

Not bad. My poor MSI GTX 970 Gaming!

The prices are pretty ridiculous though, it was a bit of a shady move to say $599 when we know that probably won't happen for months. Still no Aussie price either.

So 1 1080gtx is more powerful than my 980SLI. I wonder if it's just for Witcher 3, or most games. Because if this is true I'd sell my 980's for 1 1080gtx, then sell the 1080gtx for the Ti next year.

Here we go. When it was rumored and I said it'd eclipse a 980Ti, everyone laughed. When I'm saying the announced 1080 will be brilliant, everyone tells me to stfu and wait.

Now we're here and everyone can eat crow. Sit in the corner and eat it.
Dude nobody fuckin cares lol

Sweet, will be interesting to see what EVGA come out with, wonder how long til we get non reference cards?

Read only the computerbase reviews so far.

Very disappointed that they can't distinguish milliseconds from microseconds, preemption in less than 100 milliseconds wouldn't be too great :p

lol gimme 3 polaris cards for that price

OK. Enjoy Crossfire.

Seriously, at the very high end, it's not horrible right now. I assume Vega will be priced around this and hopefully it knocks it out of the park. Polaris is aiming a little too low for my tastes.

It's an impressive card, but 10-15 FPS over my 980 Ti in most games @ 1440p isn't enough for me to upgrade. I'll definitely be waiting for the 1080 Ti, where I'll hopefully be looking at 20-30 FPS gains over the 980 Ti.

Hum, will wait for custom 1080 and more feedback on how they OC, but so far the performance / price ratio is not that hot.
Wallet safe for now.

You must have been reading different threads. you really think every 980ti owner sees this as a needed upgrade? It is just better than the 980ti, EVERYONE knew that was going to happen. It was the 1070 the one people didn't think would match the 980ti, the 1070.

You can get the 20-30fps gains if you use 1080p benchmarks instead of 1440p.

I would like to see some OC'd benches as well. I kind of had a feeling what the stock scores would be.

Right now I'm thinking I should just get a used 980ti for $400.

Edit: just saw some. Gotta try to find a 980ti for cheap.

I'm seeing 20 to 30 fps gains...

10 fps at 4K matters more than 20-30 fps in lower resolutions where a 980 Ti already runs a game at anything from 60-100 fps.

You would be better off checking reviews where they overclock the 980 Ti and comparing those to the 1080. So far it seems like a stock 1080 and overclocked 980 Ti are close enough for it to not matter.

To give you an idea, a reference 980 Ti boosts to about 1000 MHz whereas an overclocked one can be at 1500.

Looks like we need to wait for the OC stuff to put this thing really to the test. Gah June can't come quick enough.

So according to those Guru3D benchies, stock 980Ti -> 1080, @1440p...

Witcher III Wild Hunt
61fps -> 82fps

Grand Theft Auto 4
86fps -> 114fps

Rise of the Tomb Raider
70fps -> 90fps

Ashes of the Singularity
57fps -> 80fps

The Division
59fps -> 79fps

DOOM
91fps -> 112fps

Welp, definitely keeping my 980Ti.

Need to see VR performance comparisons to be sure, but MEH....

Bit pricey in the UK but I'll probably pick up a non-reference card when they're revealed.

14000 rand!

Holy shit. I can almost build two systems at that price.

I'll wait for the 1070 and Polaris.

Are any specific VR benchmarks available? I've skimmed trough some of the reviews but none of them have tested the VR performance, only quoting the potential "100 per cent" performance increase.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
No QUAD-Sli review? Shame.....

You can get the 20-30fps gains if you use 1080p benchmarks instead of 1440p.

20-30fps gains is a useless way of describing the advantage over a 980ti.

If 980ti gets 20fps at 4k and 1080 gets 5fps more, that is still a 25% increase.

People who were expecting bigger fps gains in demanding titles at 4K from this card were delusional.

Waiting for better coolers to come along. This looks great though. Maybe I can snag a cheap 970 or 980 in a few months to tide me over :D
