The new Mega Man cartoon sounds dumb and bad

Wonder how badly they will butcher blues/proto man.

Considering how we can make rough guesses on how things will end up character wise (if we use his work on Ben 10 as a base), I think we can see this happening.

-Roll is the supportive sister that gets on Aki/Rock's nerves over time. They but heads but in the end care about one another.
-Dr. Light is the wise mentor character and teaches Aki/Rock how to use his Mega Man armor.
-Aki/Rock.....this is hard to peg down. I imagine that he would be like Rex from Generator Rex; cocky and very sarcastic but still having a good heart and helping those in need. Or they could give him X's character from that series (without the 'fighting is bad' message hammered in this time out).
-Blues/Protoman I could see as a best friend to Aki/Rock, teaching him secret functions of his armor and having a bit of a rough side (as he is bitter toward Light).
-Bass will be the Keven of the show, if you ever saw Ben 10. Basically, the bad guy made by Dr. Wily that goes rouge in later seasons and joins back up with Aki/Rock & friends.

...If they wanted to make Mega Man a story about a "normal boy" with an alter-ego, why not just use his actual, canon name, Rock...?

This is sounding too much like the ill-fated Dreamwave MM comic, for my liking. But hell, at least there, they kept the name "Rock(y) Light".

I mean, I expected the cartoon to be dumb and not for actual fans of Mega Man but I don't know why, I expected it to look like classic Mega Man and not be horrible CGI. I don't know why though.

He just looks ugly, and I'm not sure if it's the design or the cheap CGI?

Wait, at least one design thing I hate, those fucking suggestive eyebrows built into the helmet. Looks like he's trying to lure a robot master to bed with him.

Wait, is that supposed to be CGI? It looks like the early days of flash animation which was ugly.

I don't understand why companies think making things more generic will make people flock to it over the thousands of other things just like it, instead of playing up what actually makes Mega Man unique. What a waste.

Just out of curiosity, what is the purpose of a new Mega Man cartoon anyway? Does Capcom actually plan on any new games to capitalize on the cartoon?

They were probably gonna test the waters with the cartoon and we'd get a game (probably based on it) if it succeeded.

Now that the cartoon is gonna tank, we'll get nothing as always.

Don't oppose to the Alter ego, but why the hell isn't he called Rock like in the original game's plot?

I hope that design in the pic is not final, looks cheap and ugly.

I still have a wee bit of good faith on Man of Action, OG ben10 and generator rex were good.

I'd like to see what the key demographic has to say about the cartoon. Can all members age 6 - 9 voice their outrage next?

Yeah this is horrendous. I don't understand how such a simple and appealing design gets thrown around and screwed up so often. I also don't understand how they reached the conclusion that the name "Aki" would be better for western audiences than "Rock", all I can see that change doing is alienating more of the fanbase.

It's definitely not Mega Man. Would be shocked if this reached any level of success.

So Capcom can say they're still utilizing the Mega Man license without having to actually do any of the work themselves.

FUCK.

Who the heck thought this was a good idea? The original Mega Man premise is already great for a cartoon.

Incredible that the Rubi Spears cartoon is still the most faithful to the original material...

Man.

I'm not a fan of Sonic Boom and this looks like it's going to be the same kind of thing.

I hope they decide not to make tie-in games for this.

Just reboot battle network/NT warrior

Then again it is for a younger demographic so I can't really say much

Art style can look really nice and still be aimed at young kids though...

Also I can make everything worse about the 90's Mega Man cartoon. This was the original promo for the show and planned to be closer to the source material but in the style of Mega Man: Upon A Star.

http://www.mmhp.net/Marketing/Promo.html

You might have also seen bits of that promo as well if you've watched the Japanese commercial for Mega Man 7.

Mega Man's original designs and some reinventions are good and appealing to many that it doesn't really need to be westernized so much as he has and still seems to be getting like in the OP.

If you're curious about Mega Man: Upon A Star, it's a 3 part OVA that is edutainment for young kids and talks about interesting places around Japan. Wily escaped from the game and Mega Man plans to find and stop him before he reeks any havoc in the real world.

Sonic Boom already got two games and look how THAT turned out. And that's despite the cartoon actually being decent. This just makes Sonic Boom's initial announcement look incredible, the art is horrendously amateurish for a so-called professional studio.

And that's strange logic. Capcom doesn't need to be making new classic Mega Man games to commission an adaptation of the comics. If anything, a successful adaptation might spur new classic games, much like what you're suggesting for this.

If this actually had decent production values and actually looked new and interesting, I would give it a chance, but both the setup is a cliche storm and the art is a dumpster fire.

While I agree that Sonic Boom's games are awful we are talking about different companies here. The last time I saw a cartoon about MegaMan (Battle Network), it spawned decent games even though I didn't care so much about the animation, so I'm willing to give this a chance. With Sega in the other hand, you have 50% of probability that the game you get is bad, they are pretty consistent with the bad quality of Sonic's games.

I'm not suggesting at all that we can get classic games from this, quite the opposite: we may get games based on the new series and I was wondering what kind of game would that be... An RPG? Sidescroll action? I'm very curious.

For all the love I have for classic MegaMan I think the classic design is kind of outdated, don't get me wrong, I think that's part of his charm: he's a character from the 80s after all. But the kids may love this new cartoon as I'm sure many have fond memories of BN's and that's a good way to keep the character relevant.

I always wanted an X animated series along with a good classic animated series.. Loved the short animated episode that was on maverick hunter X.

lol, Mega Mini... Rush's replacement?
lmao, ofcourse it's also about every day school life too, damnit all

...Tho maybe it's like some kind of Robot Master highschool and you'll have all these kids with crazy transforming Mega Man abilities. I can get behind that.

Would've preferred if they just made it as a spinoff, naming it Mega Man Light or something, but I guess this'll be unoffically known as 'Mega Man 2017' anyway.

Artstyle is different, but who knows, it might look pretty decent in motion. Wait and see I guess

In all likelihood, yes. The Mega Man Battle Network series was promoted by a heavy multimedia campaign that included a long-running anime series, a manga, and more. That series went on to be a huge success for Capcom, selling millions of copies. I can see Capcom wanting to repeat that success. The fact that the Archie Mega Man comic has gone on hiatus and Archie's silence on the matter could be a sign that there is going to be a new comic version coming that will match the style of the new games.

Everyone, let's be honest about what is going on here: Mega Man is being rebooted. If we get new Mega Man games, expect them to have an artstyle closer to what is being shown for this upcoming cartoon. Don't expect sequels to the original Mega Man games. It looks like Capcom has decided to focus on creating a new Mega Man and marketing him to a new generation of children. Truth be told, I think that is the correct decision. I am a life-time Mega Man fan who has played just about every game in the entire franchise. I grew up playing the original NES Mega Man games. Heck, Mega Man 3 was the very first videogame I ever played, so the series has always been close to my heart. However, I am also a thirty-year old man. Creating a new cartoon and game series designed to appeal to me would be a boneheaded decision by Capcom. Creating a new series and cartoon designed to appeal to people who are currently the age I was when I first became a life-long Mega Man fan is the far wiser choice.

Now, there is nothing that radical of a departure in this preview either. The new Mega Man design is pretty conventional: it is similar to other existing designs, such as X's design or MegaMan.exe's design. The artstyle is also kinda reminiscent of the artstyle that was going to be used in the canceled Mega Man Universe, as well. I'm going to have to see it in motion to know if it is good or not, so I am not going to pass judgement on the series just from that. Now, other details such as Mega Man being a transforming superhero are completely in line with previous versions of the character. At it's core, the Mega Man series is based on a mix of Japanese tokusatsu shows, such as Power Rangers and Kamen Rider, as well as old-school shows such as Cashern. Mega Man has always been a superhero series, and the idea of Mega Man having a secret civilian identity is also not a stranger to the franchise. The Mega Man Star Force and ZX series embraced these themes wholesale, and as someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, this exact same set-up of Mega Man pretending to be a human kid to go to a normal school was used in the short-lived Dreamwave-produced Mega Man comic. The name Aki Light is new, but then again Dr. Thomas Light was named Tadashi Hikari in the Mega Man Battle Network games.

Semi-off topic but how did that Pac-man cartoon perform? That recent one with the weird punky pac-lady and that female ghost who has the hots for Pac-man

Wow, did they remaster it? It looks so much clearer.

By the looks of it, somebody went through a lot of trouble to track down the owner of the original pitch video so they could create a higher quality transfer for youtube. This pitch video did become the cartoon series that appeared on the USA network, but they retooled the designs to appeal more to western tastes of the '90s. But personally, I think the original pitch looked really good.
