Can't believe is already a year since the release of Splatoon, one of the best new IP of this generation, the fresh new Nintendo IP. :D
Splatoon was annunced at E3 2014, and with the first trailer, i was already hyped a lot... though, i would NEVER expect that in the end, the game would be so amazing.

Never expect it, but well, after a year, i can say withouth doubt that Splatoon is actually my favourite game ever.

Splatoon is a very deserved success with over 4.27 million unit sold as for March 31 2016, and those numbers just gonna increase.
Those numbers count over 1.5 million from Japan by end of April 2016, well over 1 million in the USA by end of 2015, and over 1 million in Europe by end of March 2016.

The comunity of this game is still insanity strong, since we know more than half of people who bought the game have played the last Splatfest, and what say more?

Thanks Nintendo for this amazing game. And thanks to all of the Splatoon comunity.

I believe that as me, a lot of people can't wait for Splat2oon. Hope Nintendo make the right decision with this new epic series, and Meanwhile, we just go back to play again and again with the new Splatfest.

Not to mention the LEGENDARY Splatoon fanart many of you made in this year (and well, even just after the game was annunced... :p)

From the Splatoon messiah. :3 You are a kid squid now!

My opinion on this game has come sooooooooo far from the initial reveal. When I first saw it I expected it to be a total flop, not really interesting at all, expected it to flop; turns out it's one of the best games of last year, and one of the most fun multiplayer games out there! I'm really glad to see how successful it's been too (well, by Wii U standards if nothing else), and I can't wait to see what Nintendo does with it on NX!

Coming from competitive Halo 2/3, I think Splatoon is the most interesting competitive shooter since. The ink mechanic is a great substitute for sprint (which I typically dislike) and allows for a lot of unique evasive maneuvering. There are some things that could be tweaked, but I eagerly await the inevitable sequel.

I'm hoping some competitive scene would form around that similar to Sm4sh and Melee in the fgc.

Its rare to start a game and immediately start laughing because it just feels good to play a fun game.

The most fun i had this gen.
Well done nintendo. I cant wait for spla2n on nx

Hopefully the next Nintendo system has a version of splatoon during the launch window. Amazing game that with a few small tweaks could potentially be a system seller

I was one of the ones who thought "Eh, maybe the single player will be fun" and barely even touched it in comparison to the multiplayer it after playing the beta. Some delicious crow that was. It's probably the reason I gave the Overwatch beta a chance as well, so yeah, awesome game.

To think a year ago this game sold out in Japan and Nintendo had to remind its customers that they could buy a digital version.
Happy birthday Splatoon.

Still without luck
It's so great Splatoon was such a massive success. Hopefully Nintendo takes more risks with new ideas in the future.

It only seemed like yesterday that I celebrated my birthday a day later with some Splatoon and doing local 1v1 with my friend on it. Game was a blast while it lasted for me.

I need to get back into it for the future. This new IP deserved its success.

I bought Splatoon on release day, and according to the log on my WiiU I've booted the game up on 249 of the last 365 days.

Still loving it <3

Slay a bit!

Remember when people said that the game would bomb W101-style and the community would fade after some months? Kiii!

I need to go back and revisit it at some point. The weird content rollout strategy led to me playing a shitload up front and burning out pretty early so I haven't even seen everything that's in the game at this point.

If Spla2oon were announced as a NX launch title I'd get the console day one.

Always felt that the game would be a hit, but never thought it would gain the cultural popularity it did in Japan with concerts and clothing. I play the game every so often and get hooked each time I boot it up and play for hrs straight. It is so pick up and play friendly that an hr of playing just flies by.

Loved the game when it came out and its probably ly one of my favourite online shooters. Played up to the major update that raised the level cap to 50 then just dropped off of it. If I had the time to pick up another online game splatoon would be top of the list for sure.

I'm expecting we won't get a trailer for the second game that we all know is coming until NX's second year. Gotta give those devs time to make a worthy successor.

Happy Birthday, Splatoon. You may have been snubbed for Smash 4, but you're still awesome & one of my favorite shooters ever. Here's to a great Spla2n on the NX Platform & the inclusion of the Inklings in Smash 5.

Didn't think I would like it that much but ended up loving it. Very addicting also it surprised me how innovative the game is.

here's the official artwork for the anniversary btw

It really is awesome how the squid transformation combines a ton of shooter mechanics (stealth, taking cover, sprint, reloading), merges them all into a single action, and makes it super fun and inkcredibly relevant to the core mechanic.

This is what we get when Nintendo is at its most creative and not held back by series constraints and traditions. Well deserved success.
