a nice hearty woomy to Splatoon

one year later and I'm still playing frequently. I've never really gone down the rabbit hole like this with a game. it's just too good.

Splatoon is the first multiplayer game I've ever seriously gotten into, and I can seriously say it's had a positive impact on my life. Made so many good friends thanks to it

you havent played any first or third person shooter ever? because there isnt really something to "click" on splatoon controls, if you are refering to the gyro controls you can turn them off and aim with the right joystick like any other shooter under the sun

I've only played FPSs with a mouse/keyboard.

I am the equivalent of the Polygon Doom video.

Also, a little late for me to post this and I unfortunately don't have a more readable context to present, but yesterday the Splatoon competitive community had the Splatoon Anniversary Invitational, pitting 16 of the top western teams against each other :3

We're mostly in discord servers these days (including SplatGAF!), but you can find Splatoon tournaments at squidboard.com if you're interested in participating :3

Happy Birthday, Splatoon!

The best thing about Splatoon is that it's a game really around everyone having a fun time, even when it's competitive. The plaza is such a good integration of Miiverse in a game.

And all kind of players seems to play it. Just the other day, I had a Turf War match with a level 50 player called "mom". "mom" was a really skilled roller player, with a highly optimized gear and playing style, using the subs and specials like a real pro.

I've only played FPSs with a mouse/keyboard.

I am the equivalent of the Polygon Doom video.

Try starting with a roller.

Truly one of my favourite games of all time, I can't wait for the inevitable sequel. It just feels so good to play, it always gives me an instant smile on my face. Games that do that for me just are something special, man.

Would be nice if Nintendo'd bring over some of that sweet merch over though! I want that artbook and soundtrack cd.

There are a hundred different things I could say about why I love Splatoon, but the most potent reason is that Nintendo brought joy, whimsy, and color to a genre so overwhelmingly saturated by darkness and death.

Sure, not every single shooter in the history of gaming has been gritty and serious (that line of thinking of "Splatoon wasn't the first shooter to accomplish [X]!" seemed to come out loud and proud in another recent thread on the game), but in my two decades of playing vidja gaems it is the first I've ever seen that marries such heartwarming creativity with insane levels of production values and gameplay mechanic brilliance.

This is easily my favorite video game in at least five years, and has earned a firm spot in my top 10 games of all time list.

And the best part? The first iteration was so successful that we'll likely have DECADES of new Splatoon games to come!
