The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt |OT3| Metz Some Ploughing Good Ladies In the Forest

And at level 41 can finally can wear the Skellige armor. So damn snugly.

front-back-29kjlv.jpg

Oooo. Looks good.

Main quests actually, with a few contracts on the side for decently quick money. Actual sidemissions rarely give decent experience points.

It's roughest at the beginning. I started on BB&B and the first 5 levels were a struggle. I actually thought I wouldn't have enough money to maintain repairs so I brought spare swords.

Make sure to mix up the combat with signs and bombs. Use the requisite oils. Your swords won't deteriorate as quickly. That's usually only an issue very early on.

Thank you all. I will heed your advice. Also, out of interest, if I'm lacking ingredients to make bombs or oils and so on, and those ingredients don't seem to be with any local herbalists or merchants, is there any kind of guide for where to find ingredients in the environment? I also need to build some bombs, as I have none and I've already encountered about three monster nests which I couldn't destroy.

What's everyone's consensus on the enemy level upscaling? Trivial difficulty and over leveling was the primary reason I started losing interest in the game. Can someone with a higher level character confirm if it's made the reverse difficulty curve a bit more bearable?

I just jumped in and did a level 11 quest and that offered some challenge at level 21 which was great.

So far it's decent. Enemies only scale to your current level however (so for you lvl 21), and the XP is the same as without it enabled from what I can tell. Being above the current level would have been better imo (though I'm waaay over leveled for anything in the base game) but the expansions fill that need.

I am trying to get into this game but here is an issue I am having and I feel like I am missing something.

It seems like my gear needs to be repaired so often, especially my weapons. I am having trouble finding who can repair it, and affording the repairs. I feel like I don't have much money. I think I only have around 500 gold, and the right now my sword needs to be repaired for around 300. Seems like a lot.

Sometimes I'll come to a blacksmith and even though he has a "talk" prompt, it turns out to be non-interactive and he just says one line. I can't actually get him to repair anything.

It seems hard to find people who can repair things. I'm used to RPGs where I just go to a vendor (any vendor!) and push "repair all" and am only charged a small priced. I find myself spending so much time worrying about repairing stuff. What am I missing? Or do I just need to progress further, and it becomes less of an issue? I'm only level 11.

Loot everything. You will find repair kits. Go to shop is very expensive. Blacksmiths and armorers are quite scarce in this game so iy's quite inconvenient. I have always repaired stuff myself.

I do have a few repair kits but it since I don't know how scarce they are, I'm afraid to use them.

Loot everything.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt For Loot

It's practically a necessity for gaining currency in this game. I wouldn't worry too much about repair kits as there are enough found by looting, and they're craftable once you obtain the diagrams.

Also using signs + bombs cuts back on the sword use. Protip: Aard is crazy effective on necrophages and often results in the opportunity for an instant kill while they're on the ground.

Are you doing monster contracts, which pay 200+ per quest? Are you selling your items to proper traders, like armors/weapons to blacksmiths, jewellery and furs to innkeepers, etc? Never sell anything to a general trader.

Also, if you go to Novigrad, you'll easily find one of the several people who can repair your things.

Aah, that guy in Velen. Yeah, sometimes you have to meditate in his location an hour before he actually becomes interractable.

You're level 11 so you're past the 1 quest in the game where the ability to fix your sword mid-dungeon would make a big difference. The equipment repair cost are not going to get much higher than currently, so if you can get full durability value out of a repair kit, then use it. No use hoarding them when you can't afford smith services

Another thing is that you should use signs. Aard easily enables one hit kills on several enemies especially humans. It really saves durability.

In addition to this, use dodge and roll instead of blocking when possible.

So I'm sure there's probably no truly "best" outcome, but I just did something regarding a spirit in a tree in the bog area.

I
killed the spirit trapped in the tree as I didn't really trust it.
Should I have done something else? Should I have helped it? :x

If that choice was made during the quest from

If it's the one I'm thinking of I did the same thing, don't worry. Reading about people posting about 'worst' and 'best' outcomes hovered in my head during my time with the main game. Just go with your instinct and roll with it. I thought I'd screwed up several decisions only to be surprised later.

Yoo, wow. I must have encountered it in a difference sequence.

lol damn. Well, the Crones said the children are "far away" but I somehow doubt that. Probably just inside their stomachs.. :/ lol

I technically stumbled across the tree spirit before I had the actual quest to do something about it.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been doing. Just going with my gut lol

I finally made it to the Battle for Kaer Morhen. Only took me a year!

Only to now suffer from a hard crash to desktop every time I close the third portal in the woods and the game cuts to Triss (I guess?). It just crashes, no error message, nothing. Anybody have that problem and managed to solve it? :/

Dead

well not really...yet
How much new land mass was added for Hearts of Stone?

Either its more than I expected or I completely shit the bed on exploring the map beforehand

Around an hour maybe? You're pretty close if I recall correctly.

Just finished it earlier today, yeah, it was about an hour-ish left.

Really good DLC. Leaps and bounds beyond the main game (including the main game's side quests).

I was more on guard with this villain
aka that's pretty much the devil
than Mr Wild Hunt.

I think they added more to the upper right and top of novigrad whereas before it would just force you to turn around.

They also made a few other areas in oxenfurt and whatnot accessible.

I know the enemy scaling doesn't affect quest EXP, but do the enemies at least give more? Or are they just trash that will be a bit harder to die instead?

I just bought this for 25 bucks on PSN...I know the game itself is uber long, but when in my playthrough should I buy/play the two expansion packs?

The two expansion packs are meant to be played near the end of the vanilla game, or after it. Personally I wouldn't play either of the expansions until after you've completed the main quest; if you do HoS before that, you'll be over levelled for the end of the main game. CDPR did throw in a few extra lines of dialogue (nothing particularly interesting IMHO) if you do HoS before the end of the main game, but I'd advise just checking those out on YouTube after you've finished.

Think of the expansion packs like dessert :)

That's pretty cool of them. Okami did the same thing and they even highlighted "point of no return" in red and asked you twice if you really want to proceed.

Can I just say how disappointed I am in the water at night after patch 1.20? It's a real downgrade that I'm surprised more are talking about. Posted a bit about it in the dedicated patch thread but after see Skellige water at night it drove it home.

Just look at the stark difference. I don't know what they were thinking. The daytime water looks mostly okay but the night reveals the changes. All shots taken at Ultra settings at the same time of day and condition (Left to right: 1AM/Rain, 1AM/Rain, 6PM/Clear IIRC).

The menu visible is due to sandboxing the 1.12 patch (since I didn't want it making any changes to the 1.21 install), which meant Afterburner couldn't detect the window so I used ShareX.

Just did
the Battle of Kaer Morhen
. HOOOOOOOLY SHIT, that was fantastic. Probably one of my favorite bits of the game, because it's built up so well and then it pays off. I think that's one of CDPR's real strengths in terms of writing is that they aren't afraid to slow build to something so that it has more impact in the end. Nothing feels rushed.

Oh, and the
scene in the hut on the Isle of Mists
was my favorite single scene, hands down. Gotdayum.

This is probably not the same thing. But I once encountered a bug, only once though throughout my 400 hours, which made the water completely flat much like your first picture. Reloading makes it go away. Can you try verifying your game files again and make sure all the graphics settings are cranked up? They get reset back to low randomly when there is new patch, file verification, etc., especially water and texture settings.

Yeah, exiting and reloading resulted in the second shot, though I've seen something similar before since the new patch so wasn't sure if it was just a weather thing or not. Also saw the Low settings after the patch but that was almost the first thing I changed while browsing the new settings.

Someone I was in discussion with elsewhere will be taking comparison shots for me later on so if I can confirm it's just my side I may verify (again), though I expect it's just what the new water looks like.

Anyone have glitches with the Gwent Book from the merchant in Novigrad?

I bought the book, but it says I have all the cards. According to my quest log and card tracking app, I don't.
I'm still missing 10 or so.

I finally got every Gwent card (sans Skellige, because I haven't started B&W yet) and I started wondering... how the hell does Gwent work in the Witcher universe? It makes zero sense from an immersion standpoint.

Who makes these cards and how does this guy/girl know what Ciri, the Crones, Avallac'h, etc. look like? Why do people greet Geralt and Ciri like they never met them before, even though they are the strongest cards in the one game apparently everybody in the world is playing? Why are Geralt and friends neutral cards? How do people not instantly recognize Sigi Reuven as Dijkstra, when everybody has the card that features his face?

I'm looking into getting The Witcher 3, but I know absolutely nothing about the series really aside from the main character's name. Is there any official way to catch up with the story in game, or any detailed synopsis that'll get me up to speed?

Also, I see that the 2nd DLC has released now. I'm gonna get those at some point, but will I be better off having them installed before I start, or is it like Souls DLC that is sort of self contained and only accessible/should only be tackled later on?

There are a few summary video's on YouTube that can help you. I haven't watched them, so I wouldn't know which one is the best. That said, you can easily play The Witcher 3 without knowing anything about The Witcher 1, 2 or the books. You won't get a few references here and there, but nothing important. The two DLC's are 100% self contained. You get a notification for the starting quest as soon as you install them, but the game has 'Recommended levels' for the quests that are quite high. Trying Hearts of Stone when you're below Level 30 for instance is a very bad idea.

I'm looking into getting The Witcher 3....

You don't really NEED to know anything about the previous games, you'll have a good enough sense of what's going on if you just read the in game glossary entries as you meet certain characters. But I would still advise watching a quick YouTube video which summarizes the game and major characters.

And the DLCs are both self contained, you're meant to do them either at the end of the main game or after it. Rest assured both are very good, so if you are enjoying the core game feel free to buy them at any time.

You don't HAVE to play the other games.

But if you have the time I'd easily recommend:

-reading the two short story complication books. Don't take long to read and will give you an idea of the characters. Will even show you the story of how Geralt is involved with Ciri and how they met not to mention meeting Triss, yenn, dandelion and other friends of Geralt. They're available on E book format on amazon.

-playing the Witcher 2. All you need to know of Witcher 1 you can read on the wiki, it's the most disconnected of the three games. But Witcher 2 and 3 have direct connections for more enjoyment of 3.

If you only want to play Witcher 3 it's doable, but I'd recommend at least point 1, points 1 and 2 for ultimate enjoyment.

It's interesting to consider. The game does such a good job at creating an in-lore justification for almost all other gameplay elements though that I'm willing to give the logic of this one a pass.

On the other hand if a guy that looked like this walked up to someone I'm not sure they'd immediately recognize him as the famed Geralt of Rivia :p

sohappyassassinsgearbxnplz.jpg

Alright, thanks everyone. I'll probably try and catch up on a few things though, even if it's just to get a feel of the world. The short stories seem interesting too.

And that's good to hear about the DLC. I didn't know if it was like the New Vegas GOTY DLC for example, where you get the different areas to go to, but at the start of the game you're given a load of items and equipment that are unique/only accessible later on in the game.

The multiple endings are triggered based on shit you wouldn't think would matter in the long run. If you're already at the end of the game, can't remember quest name for it, then you're already past any point you can change the outcome.

There are three endings and only one is considered downright bad so maybe you got lucky.

Well I guess it makes me feel a bit better that I wouldn't be able to tell and that I don't have any choices coming up that will change the outcome. Hopefully I don't get whichever one this guy got.
