Street Fighter V story mode key art, screenshots

We've had 3 months of an awesome tournament series, all sorts of player sponsorships and eSports growth, and a record shattering EVO tournament that wouldn't have happened if the game launched late June.

That stuff might not matter to you, but it matters to many of us...and to Capcom.

And, oh yeah, we've been playing the game...which is a blast.

So if we asked capcom if sfv has met critical and financial expectations, they would say yes?

I'm straight but Urien needs to have his clothes off because that's just part of who he is. I find it funny that Capcom goes all out on these women (like Laura) and yet Urien's here and clothed up. His alt better be him with no clothes on because that fits with his character. He's a representation of a Greek God. Some things just make sense but this isn't one of those things.

I bet you anything that it'll be his premium costume. Capcom's gonna make you pay for something like that, best believe.

Or it'll be his V-Trigger.

It's quite hilarious considering there's a big "YOU" written on the player-controller character's health bar. It's still a bad game design when the story mode puts you on either left or the right side of the screen without being consistent about this, but at least the game does give you a clear indication on which character you play as.

It's there, but it's not visible enough. A better way to go about it would be to just give a flashing outline of the character before the start of the fight.

God damn this thread is full of whiny insufferable complainers. Capcom can't go back in time and give you story mode in february and had the game been delayed until say august or september , they wouldn't have had a SFV pro tour this year. Certainly this game has an uphill battle ahead of it to win back the players but is everyone seriously so miserable in their day to day lives that they have to spend every waking moment shitting on this game ?

For the record I think the Bengus DLC character poster actually looks pretty good but then I didn't hate every bit of his art in the character story either.

It also sounds like the cinematic story mode is exactly what I expected , that is - just like DOA5's or MK9/MKX. A couple of fights with every character surrounded by a 2+ hour long cheesy anime level storyline (well in MK's case it was more like a cheesy 80's straight to VHS movie). I'll take that over a 3 hour movie/digital comic that you just watch but it would be nice if they at least set the difficulty level at 3 or 4 stars instead of 0 stars character story got. This is a fun diversion from standard SF single player stuff , something they've never done before. Realistically everyone is going to play through it once or twice and be done with it.

More important if you ask me is that they are adding daily challenges, EXTRA battle (probably a variation of the traditional arcade ladder mode) and a standard VS CPU option. Hell, it might take until September or October but SFV will finally feel like a fully featured game in the coming months.

I'm also glad Capcom has stepped up , as they promised , on the blog updates. Hopefully they can keep it up and give us new info or a progress report on a weekly or even bi-weekly basis going forward.

Kinda wish they've went the Guilty Gear Xrd route and just cut the fights. Would've liked to see Capcom grade action cutscene choreography in SF.

So if we asked capcom if sfv has met critical and financial expectations, they would say yes?

Sony contributed half a million dollars to CPT. If you think "eSports" and the competitive scene are not an important part of their long term plans (in spite of them CONSTANTLY talking about eSports as a primary long term goal for the past year) you'd be mistaken.

Keep in mind we've had TELEVISION SHOWS devoted to this game. Stuff like that can't just be delayed on a whim.

This game is obviously a long term project (in Ono's own words "a marathon, not a sprint"). The entire marketing structure of the game screams long term. Even before release, the "SF as a service" model was aimed for the long term. But, by all means, let's look at month 1 sales to judge the success or failure of SF5.

I think besides Balrog, the poster looks fine, but Bengus' work for SFV has been really inconsistent. Whether or not that's due to outside factors, I'm not sure, but it's not doing the game any favors.

But most importantly, Urien better rip that damn suit off. This is nonnegotiable.

Is that really that big of a deal? To get to play them for 2-3 matches each, with basically zero difficulty?

For me it is, as I wasn't expecting to see those characters' moveset and mechanics before they were officially introduced during their respective release month.

I dont think its a part of who he is

Like I dont think cammy not wearing pants is a part of who she is.

I would like them to experiment with both ends of this stick.

Months ago huh, months ago the game had just been released.

Regarding the Capcom Pro Tour, the thing isn't to continue if there isn't a popular game to go along with it.

I can't take this post seriously. Capcom Pro Tour is the biggest "e-sport" in the fighting game scene with entrant and viewer numbers growing year on year and this year alone, SFV has over 4000 entrants at EVO which is a record breaker. If that's not "popular" then I don't know what is. So yeah, it will continue for a long time.

Well since I don't have a time machine all I CAN judge is the first 4 months (where did you get 1 month BTW) and not how long term plans ended up

But by all means, I'm sure this will be a discussion well into the future, so let's see how capcoms "Marathon" panned out

Its funny because I see posts like this and I nod my head...then remember that the FGC is still poverty as hell and the biggest "esport" in the fighting game scene is quite poor compared to the others and while 4000 entrants is awesome for Evo, EVO has become its own thing that stands out from the FGC and is basically its own video game convention at this point. So, if you're going to go to Evo as its own convention, why wouldn't you enter SFV? I would if I could go. It's a cool number, but we all know its 3900+ scrubs and I don't envy the people who have to work hard to churn through them to get to the good stuff. =P

How much money does capcom get for those 4000 entrants? And them viewers? If any they pay for sponsorship. And these streams do not bring

How does 4000 entrants transform into money for Capcom? It doesn't. It's popular within a small niche. This CPT initiative is useful for Capcom as long as it drives sales for their games. If it doesn't, then it's no good for them, and right now SFV is the only game they got going on. If SFV doesn't sell at retail, then the CPT serves no purpose, unless I'm missing something.

It could be scrubs but then again it could be good players so we'll never know, but the fact the game has churned up so much interest and popularity across the entire board in the FGC (not just EVO by the way) that they entered in the first place is saying something. Of course the fighting game "e-sport" scene is nowhere near the size of Moba's or FPS's YET but I think due to the rise in popularity in the community and the main stream media it can have a shot at being just as big.

People said the same thing about eSports Dota,CS..etc 10 years back. Look where those games are now. You cant just look at short term goals.

Why do you think CS,LoL and Dota are still soo relevant despite being such old games.

Exactly .... You start small and grow big. The fact that Fighting games have gone from 10-20k Concurrent viewers to close to 100k over the past few years is just amazing.

So yes it might not be big now , but if it ever does hit 500k+ mark like the top dogs. Thats going to be huge.

It says that the vast, vast minority who do come out and compete is growing... but is that due to SFV or is that due to other outside factors such as advancements in streaming, more tournaments that grew during the SF4 era. More exposure. More fighters. So on. Super Smash Bros. has more entrants than ever too and it sold 3-4x as much as SFV has but is still less?

So, it's hard to say. SFV's may has sparked the minority because they like it more than SF4, but I think the many years of tourneys, advancements of streaming, acceptable of esports and more play much more of a factor than SFV itself.

The point is to have constant advertisement by having the game promoted and displayed at these events. This may or may not trick some people into buying it.
