Thanks Phil

Dear GAF:
I humbly request that one of the more talented forum members create a video of amazing Phil Spencer moments set against Batman's monologue in The Dark Knight.

(Though, paradoxically, he's both the Head of Xbox we deserve and need.)

So I own the game currently, grabbed it digitally just so I don't have to put the disc in still, aka it was installed on my system already. Got the message about it being revoked... still works...without the disc.

Probably going to revoke access in waves

So if people D/L the full game + DLC > went full offline until they completed everything in the game + all achievements (main game + DLC) > then wen't back online to have their game and the DLC license taken away from them, will they still get that $10?

A LOT of people are gonna do this.

Quoted for the new page.

Xbox Head: Phil, we screwed up. We accidentally let a bunch of people get a digital copy of Fallout 4 for free.

Phil: Revoke the license and we will send them $10 to their account.

Xbox Head: We can revoke the license but we really don't need to compensate them for anyth....

I clicked the link out of habit and went to add it to my cart before deciding I'll never actually play the game so why bother.

Well, there's your answer. Apparently never turn down a price error even if you are disinterested in the game.

I wasn't expecting to hold onto this copy of Fallout and certainly wasn't expecting to get any kind of compensation, good on them. Guess I'll grab another character for KI in time.

I expected the game to be revoked on the accounts that managed to download it, but not giving out $10. That's a nice gesture.

Just a normal day at Xbox HQ

I already own Fallout 4 on PC so I'll gladly take $10 towards Cuphead.

They went further than they had to, and I appreciate the gesture.

I wonder if $10 would be the selling price if ms was to implement the digital sell back system.

Wouldn't suprise me one bit if this announced at e3

$10 is kind of a strange gift no ?

I take it that's a US thing as there's no way that would fly in the UK as Microsoft can not revoke a customer's license after the sale has been done.

Though I am not not sure if it covers digital sales but I assume that it does.

This $10 gift is really awesome of them. They've changed a LOT since the good old banning days for pricing error D/L's.

Everyone will get bored and realize being offline for 2-3 weeks playing some mediocre RPG isn't worth it.

You'd actually wish this were the case...

Mine is still installing at 65%...
No $10 credit message yet

The $10 will be credited into your account by the end of this month. Also, that message can only be accessed on the console I reckon by the image in the OP? Seems like you HAVE to read that message in order to trigger the $10 gift (stealth DRM, so MSFT can revoke the game license when you go online to read it on the console). Check if it works offline after the D/L is done. If yes, you've got 20 more days to play it offline.

Edit - update regarding the bold/struck content above:

I opened the message on SmartGlass.

Pretty rad though! Free Forza cars/ Rock Band DLC, here I come!

HARDLY ANYONE will do this.

Compared to what? It's a strange circumstance.
Next time this kind of mistake happens everyone will download just at the chance of getting free cash.I'm betting that about 70% of people that new about fall out didn't bother to download it. Bad messages! Next time
