That's odd... advertising zones are really a thing at E3?

Seems like it is, I never heard of it either :S

If there isn't a FFXV advertising that just says PS4 in a "PS4 zone" I'm not sure if I really take that as fact.

Can we get any pictures of this PS4 zone?

I've just never heard anything like this before... I mean is it supposed to be that Microsoft bought out the advertising space in the area and use it like this?

The game was announced in Sony conference, twice. I can't imagine how salty people will be if MS actually got the deal.

The place where EA Play is going down is in front of Microsoft Square at L.A. Live. This photo isn't the staples center, where E3 is taking place. It would make sense that game banners being hung near MS Square have Xbox branding on them.

A lot of empty wine glasses on that table

Xbox will need to become the next water cooler soon or theres going to be a hangover

Hahahaha that's not what I meant. :p

I meant that something about their faces looks weird and fake. Unless this was just a very bad picture.

Did you read the whole post? I'm proposing what they can do to increase the number of subscribers, and use the sub to add new features to the platform.

First of all, increasing the number of subscribers is out of question lol. MP being free means pretty subs will drop significantly.

Second, your suggestions pretty much means lower profits for MS even assuming they keep same number of subscribers, because offering more services and adding new features = more costs.

The point is that it needs to happen, making Xbox One players pay for the same service PC players get for free needs to stop.

Making online multiplayer free would be a huge fan service and make them look a lot less hypocritical. Gold can be kept as a game vault system like it already is.

Gold can survive successfully with the following.

* Four free games a month.
* Gold members can host 12 people parties(lock silver to 8).
* Gold discounts.
* Exclusive early access to Microsoft digital games by 24 hours like Forza 6 was for VIP owners.

These all seem reasonable and make it worth owning.

how are we counting successfully?

You can add every benefit under the sun but the fact remains there are a ton of people who ONLY pay for it for multiplayer and nothing will change that. Literally nothing. I know multiple people like this and believe me free games etc will never entice them because they only play fifa gta and cod. I begged them to download sunset overdrive and they still didn't because "it's a waste of time"

But as said before I agree they have to do something with this pc being free stuff

MS doesn't give a shit about "hypocritical" unless it somehow get them less subs, and as of now, XBO gamers don't care about PC gamers having free MP.

What you mean by "survive" here? How much do you expect the subs to drop?

And like LukasTaves, you suggestions involves MS wasting more money. So even at best case scenario of MS keeping the same amount of subs (lol), you're still less profitable, because now you doing way more thus having higher costs.

Successful would be keeping at least a sizable subscribing base. A lot of people would let the subscription slide if multiplayer went free but I think a lot will hold onto it if given enough incentive.

There is also the problem with maintaining enough value for those that have bought Gold for years to come.

It will be a hard hit to their revenue stream but it's buying a ton of goodwill and marketing value.

This is absolutely, completely wrong.

Also it's not about Microsoft caring about them being hypocritical it's about the fans buying their products thinking they are hypocritical.

What you mean by "survive" here? How much do you expect the subs to drop?

Survive as in still being relatively successful in the amount of subscribers for the service. 50% or more.

And like LukasTaves, you suggestions involves MS wasting more money. So even at best case scenario of MS keeping the same amount of subs (lol), you're still less profitable, because now you doing way more thus having higher costs.

If you think Microsoft are incapable of "wasting more money" in order to buy goodwill or marketing value... you're wrong. They did it recently with Xamarin and Visual Studio which is arguably a bigger value then Xbox Live.

Play the console with the best multiplayer exclusives with the only console with free online multiplayer.

I don't agree with this, but you're right about the rest

Obviously not every single XBO gamers doesn't care about PC gamers having free MP. But these who care and plan stop paying for XBLG subs (or already did) are a negligible amount.

Goodwill doesn't pay the bills.

It's not small hits to their revenue it's literally hundreds of millions and probably close to half a bill.

Then again they did give windows free so who knows

They'll still pay because they kind of have to but they're gonna be pissed about it and complain. Having your fan base turn against you when they're the only ones that actually like the Xbox one isn't exactly a good situation to be in.

Who says they need 100% of current gold subscriptions to pay the bills?

Who says they need the gold subscription at all to pay the bills?

BTW Goodwill can pay the bills, look what goodwill did for the PS4 at the beginning of this generation.

Traditionally online services didn't need a subscription to maintain online servers, what Microsoft did was take advantage of a situation to increase their revenue.

And also look at the goodwill ps3 had with free online didn't help much. I know situations aren't the same now but yeah

PS3's problems were caused by its launch price.

Xbox One's online servers quality doesn't rely on subscription profitability as they run on infrastructure already owned/rented by Microsoft globally.

Xbox One's online service wouldn't suffer if multiplayer became free as the infrastructure wouldn't change. It also wouldn't be a 100% revenue loss as many would hold onto Gold if given enough incentive to do so.

Making online multiplayer free is a giant speed bump that Microsoft need to eventually get over if they really want to blur the lines between PC/Xbox.

They earn plenty of money from their cut on store purchases to pay for online multiplayer.

I just don't think you should go into e3 and expect it is all. It's fun to speculate and what not but don't get your hopes up because there's a high chance it's not happening

I agree with you on the pc stuff but it's still not happening. We made our bed by paying in the first place and now we have to lie in it

I'm not saying it's going to happen at this E3 or to expect it...

But it has to happen at some point. This is a major barrier to breaking down the walls between console and PC like Microsoft want to do.

Phil and Xbox have said over and over again that they want gamers to play their games anywhere they want... well that's fine except console players are basically being punished with a paywall for online multiplayer to play where they want while other people in their ecosystem get to do it for free.

How is it "absolutely, completely wrong"? Like I said, no one bitched about it to the point where they stopped paying for subs. It didn't happen, not yet anyway.

Anything less than 90% and you're not "relatively successful". I mean No one willingly go and make a decision that makes you lose you money.

If you think Microsoft are incapable of "wasting more money" in order to buy goodwill or marketing value... you're wrong. They did it recently with Xamarin and Visual Studio which is arguably a bigger value then Xbox Live.

Here's the thing, these moves weren't "wasting more money", these are long term moves that eventually will get you more profits. I can't say the same about dropping MP paywall, especially since it's working very well now.

Are you kidding me? Anything less 100% of the same revenue and you're losing revenue.

Only way they were dropping it us if Sony was still free imo

Saying that Xbox One gamers don't care that PC gamers receiving the same service get it for free when they have to pay $60 is wrong. Are there some that don't care... sure. But most would not agree that it's right that Microsoft does it.

Why is it alright to charge console gamers for the same service that's free on PC?

Anything less than 90% and you're not "relatively successful". I mean No one willingly go and make a decision that makes you lose you money.

That's not true, as long as it still brings in a reasonable amount of revenue then it is still relatively successful, even 40% of what exists today would be a reasonable amount of revenue to maintain their servers(for Xbox Live usage) and bring in a profit.

Here's the thing, these moves weren't "wasting more money", these are long term moves that eventually will get you more profits. I can't say the same about dropping MP paywall, especially since it's working very well now.

Dropping MP paywall is definitely something that can be used in the long term to help sell consoles and increase their market share.

Are you kidding me? Anything less 100% of the same revenue and you're losing revenue.

Uhh... read my statement again... I said "Not a 100% revenue loss". In other words a certain amount would maintain their gold subscriptions and that revenue would remain.

I never implied there would be no revenue loss, In fact I've already acknowledged that.

I agree with you on the pc stuff completely were on the same page but it's still not happening. We made our bed by paying in the first place and now we have to lie in it.

I would agree if Microsoft was on top this generation but Sony doesn't need to make their service free, they already have the upper hand.

Microsoft are the ones that need to take big steps and risks to regain market share.

Question for you Ford, say MS didn't drop the MP paywall. Would you eventually stop paying for XBLG and not play MP games?
