Question for you Ford, say MS didn't drop the MP paywall. Would you eventually stop paying for XBLG and not play MP games?

With Microsoft's current trajectory, I will be playing all their games on my PC at some point in the future and not have to worry about paying for it, this is if all their games do come to PC and allow crossplay with console.

I plan to move onto 4k gaming fully as soon as possible.

I don´t think MS will ever drop the MP paywall.

Sure many of us would still pay for Xbox Live Gold. But just look at Xbox Live Gold on X360 vs. PS+ on PS3. XBL Gold had substancially more subscribers because many people just need the subscription for the MP and don´t really care about the other stuff.

Also since MS stopped to communicate XBO sales they are just relying on XBL Gold subscriptions. They never let this go (or becoming lower).

What I do expect them to do is incorporate the PC into their XBL Gold programme and offer discounts and free PC games (maybe some other stuff) to bring PC gamers to subscribe to XBL Gold.

Microsoft will never drop Multiplayer from the Gold paywall. That is an actual money maker. They didn't drop it when the PS3 had free online, because shocking truth, people actually paid for it.

If Microsoft were to ever drop that from Gold, the only way I'm staying a subscriber would be if they up those Games with Gold titles to actual AAA games every month on both 360 and One, and drop the price back to $50.

That'll never happen, and neither will the multiplayer paywall being removed.

Fair enough, but let me rephrase my question. if MS doesn't drop the MP paywall. Would the console only gamers eventually stop paying for XBLG and not play MP games?

They will never drop the paywall on Xbox One, it makes too much money. And they would never charge for it on PC because people just wouldn't buy the games, too many other games that don't require it.

No they wouldn't.

I hope they wel announce State of Decay 2, looking forward to a zombie game like this again.

Same. That along with FH3 are probably the games I'm most excited coming out of MS's conference.

Halo Wars 2 and AoE have the potential to be exciting for me, but depends on how they approach the designs of said game (PC vs. Console). As of now, I'm a bit apprehensive towards them.

It's not that simple, dropping Live Gold could sell millions of consoles that generate more money than a subscription does. Won't happen, but could.

Are you naive enough to think that dropping Live Gold would sell millions more than they currently are selling? Where are all these mythical gamers playing, Wii U? Since it's sure as hell not PS4 or PC.

No it won't. That would never happen and all that would occur is Microsoft losing a shitload of subs and profit/revenue.

Sales didn't magically tick up because they removed apps from Gold. I mean, why wouldn't millions go buy a 360 or One for free Netflix or Hulu?

Consumers are willing to pay for subscriptions if multiplayer is behind it. Sony went from free multiplayer to payed and they are at +40 million units sold. There is no incentive for MS to drop it.

Yup, that sums it up. People need to get over it. That ship has sailed a long time ago even before Sony started charging for online with the PS4.

apps were already free on ps3 and literally every other device. Also it's a gaming machine.

Pretty bad example lol

How can they keep the sub when they're closing the gap between PC and XB1? Why should you need to pay to play Forza/Gears/etc online on XB1 but not on PC? How would they explain why there is a difference?

But free online causing an uptick in sales is a bad example too because of PC's and the Wii U.

That fucking thing ain't selling, and it has free online.

Do we really want an Xbox U? I don't.

It's like an MMO. Almost everyone needs to pay a sub for WoW (Xbox), but internet cafe shops in the east can play WoW for free (Win10).

Dropping Gold requirement would steer a huge amount of people away from future PS4, Nintendo, and even PC purchases. That's not naivety. Paid online is a hurdle which a notable percentage of consumers assess before they purchase.

However, this thread's Xbox Live talk should end here. It's derailing this thread.

Phil just appeared on some live fanfest video

'Monday will be one of the most special events in Xbox history, comparable to Zero Hour 360 launch in terms of importance'

Nowww pick ahead the PR in three...two...one.

They'll be killing 40% of the current Xbox Ones out there with a firmware update?

Alright, something really big is happening. MP paywall gone might be a possibility after all.

What does Zero Hour 360 launch mean?

https://www.microsoft.com/xbox/zerohour.htm

Microsoft announced details of the Xbox 360 launch event, "Xbox 360: Zero Hour," where thousands of gamers from around the world are invited to make the pilgrimage to an undisclosed location in the Mojave desert to witness the dawning of the next generation of gaming.

Alright, something really big is happening. MP paywall gone might be a possibility after all.

That 180 was so quick.

Hopes:

Halo 3 Annv.
Forza Horizon 3
Sea of Thieves Gameplay
Recore Gameplay
Crackdown Gameplay
Halo Wars 2 Gameplay
Elder Scrolls Game
New Red Dead

Pretty safe to say we'll see at least a tease of Halo 6 right?...

I don't think so not H6 at least because last year we had Halo 5 this year we will have Halo Wars 2 and in my opinion Halo 6 is not happening until 2018 so a H6 tease? nah I don't think so but a Halo 2017 spinoff game? sure

I think we all have varying perceptions on whats special or important

For me, a new Blinx is important, like DEFCON 1 levels of important

Simply confirming the #creativechatter being real will effectively make it a historic moment for Xbox.

It means a complete transformation of the way they handle the brand moving forward.

Would be funny if basically everything we have spun together until now will be completely false :D

What the hell could that even entail though?

Xbox Rebrand? Mod-support? Windows/Steam? OG Xbox BC? Free Xbox Live? Family-sharing?

It may just be iterative consoles, but that seems a bit weak for these claims.

Major Nelson confirmed Phil's opening the briefing. Perhaps bombs will be dropped then.

Edit: Am probably over-thinking. It's likely just a philosophical shift with PC and Xbox One unification, rather than just a lone feature.

#Redesign, Rebuild, Reclaim.
Seth Rollins as special guest to reveal Xbox Scorpio.

You know who it would really be

Hmm, these two posts got me thinking. While I don't think they would remove the MP page all altogether, what if they just removed it for MS published games?

Then publishers will kick up shit "why are you limiting our customer base" etc. I mean it's not like they're getting any money from it.

Phil has opened the briefings ever since he's the boss.

I really hope Forza Horizon has an overhauled or at least an expanded upgrades, tuning and customization feature. It has been pretty much the same for a while now..
