What is this thread?

Discussions about cheap Chinese stuff. Post pics. Reviews. Shipping times. Etc.

The sites you want to check out:

http://www.aliexpress.com

The retail side of Alibaba. Largest selection. Will side with the buyer if there's a dispute. Uses alipay (similar to paypal). Sellers will never see your CC info. No discover cards.

https://www.fasttech.com

Accepts Bitcoin and Paypal. Good (real) customer reviews. Lots of e-cig gear.

http://www.banggood.com/

Accepts paypal. Warehouses all over the place. Fast shipping to Europe.

http://www.dinodirect.com/

Accepts paypal. Nice selection. Exceptionally slow shipping.

I often buy IEMs from that type of site, hoping to find the next budget killer earphones. Haven't found anything that sticks, but at the price it's fun to try.

A lot of the stuff like the straps is basically surplus, they probably ran 50,000 for some client and have a few hundred leftover or something

Yeah the business model is basically grafting surplus factory production, but I also suspect there's corruption on the post-office/shipping side that enables this stuff.

That actually does sound fun. I run through IEMs at a depressingly fast clip and it would be interesting to try about 3-5 head to head and see whats the best.

They are not cheaper than ebay for the most part.

I have good experience with the electronic I brought on aliexpress (except 2 $5 bluetooth earbuds)/ However the pair of shoes I brought feel like cardboard shoes. You just have to pay attention to the type of stuff you order.

I've always assumed it was a combination of no material costs, very very low manufacturing costs (just the re-branding and cheap packaging) and export shipping subsidised by the government.

Aliexpress is the best thing ever, OP. I get my art supplies from sellers on Aliexpress and end up saving a lot of money when comparing it somewhere like Michael's or Dick Blick.

If you go over to Head-Fi, they have a few threads dedicated to Chinese brands that some posters say rival headphones that cost multiple times what they paid on Aliexpress.

That isn't to say that there isn't a ton of crap on those sites, because there is, but you can definitely find great deals.

Banggood.com is another good one that I've bought stuff from.

Set a budget of $20 one day and buy random stuff.
You'll be impressed, excited, pleased, disappointed, and shocked at the same time.

yep, it's sort of a grab bag of experiences when you order from them.

Honestly I've gotten some amazingly neat things like a wire puzzle set, a winter coat, and a pull-up bar for super cheap.

Plenty of other stuff, like a flashlight and a charging cable, broke shortly after I received them. Still probably worth poking around if you have some extra cash and understand what you're getting into.

Those $12-15 "smart watches" or DAWs look like a lot of fun to play around with but I KNOW that shit would have issues from day 1 so I never tried.

It's the deal it's too good to be true, it's because you're buying rejects.

Most of the electronics are the ones that didn't make it past the testing standards, but still work, but probably not for long or at a diminished rating.

Most excess materials probably didn't make it past quality testing.

I mean, it's cheap, sure.

I wouldn't buy anything that could cause a fire, anything with a battery.

I see there getting positive reviews for their price

I generally buy cheap chinese shit when the quality doesn't matter. Cables and such

We are here to serve serious audio enthusiast only.

How do you know if you are an Audio Junkie?
Here is a simple question:
How do you know if you are a genuine audio enthusiast?

Which of the following statements is true about certain brand of headphones by Dr Dre

A) They are shit
B) makes for a good pet
C) strictly a decoration piece
D) good earmuffs in the winter
E) a toilet paper has better treble extension
than those headphones
F) best headphones ever

If you think F is the correct answer,
then u have fail this test and the Monk is not for you.

For everybody else that wanna know more about it here is all the info you will ever need on head-fi

I will quote some from there (by DJ scope)

AYYY!

I haven't bought much Chinese stuff online, but in person the build quality tends to be hot garbage. Having said that, the pictures you linked make me think those aren't so much knockoffs but maybe rebranded stuff, which shouldn't be as bad.

About 10 years ago I got an MP3 player for super cheap, before iPods were popular. I thought that was a good deal but the play button literally slid inside the case of the machine immediately on the first press. That's how bad the build quality was. I unscrewed and opened the case to retrieve it, but the entire play/stop/rewind/forward buttons were all put on a single sheet of plastic that was held up by a single stick of plastic inside the case and balanced precariously against the case. There's no way that thing would not slide into the case eventually.

When I plugged the thing into USB, I saw a bunch of files and thought it was crappy ads, sample songs, and general bloatware, so I deleted them.

It turns out that was the fucking firmware of the machine that was just hanging around in the USB storage part of the device like the rest of the songs. The unit had no backup or any way of hiding its firmware.

And that's how my shitty MP3 player was bricked and physically broken within 10 minutes of actually getting it.

I've bought cheap Chinese electronics off Amazon.. seems safer, faster delivery with Prime and more trustworthy reviews. Got a no frills mechanical keyboard for $35, it's worked great for 3 months. Only complaint is no number pad.

It's cheap stuff. You're not going to get the same quality as the name brand. As long as you don't mind that, go for it. It's hit or miss. I bought a dash cam from aliexpress for like $14. Works like a charm still.

They offer free shipping almost worldwide, so if you're in a country where you cant get amazon, etc. Aliexpress comes in handy.

A lot of the amazon sellers buy in bulk from alibaba/aliexpress, and FBA through amazon.

Yeah go for it. Don't expect the same quality as expensive goods but there's some good stuff out there.

Word of warning: Watch out for AC-DC power supplies. There's a reason why genuine USB chargers are expensive.

Cheap non certified chargers often have no protection circuits. A short will likely lead to fire.

ebay chinese sellers have been doing this for a long time

Wiring and such has a big markup in america, talking bout 80 to 90 percent for a lot of it

Ask any employee at wal mart to can it and you will see the mark up is exactly that on some items. tvs and such could actually be losing money for some stores though.

It sort of works itself out in the long run, chinese are paying 20 percent more for phones/cars etc

Try the KZ iems. Happy with the ones I've got. The Piston 3s I got were good too. Sadly I was using them in winter, so it'd be with a beanie.

Without the beanie, they don't even fit properly on my ears, they're too small, even with the different tips lol.

Ordering my next phone from China in the next few days.

Edit - haven't bought anything from alibaba. I use aliexpress, eBay, etc

For $20 I just got:

- 50 velcro cable ties
- an EDIKO golf snapback
- 4 loofahs
- an armband for my phone
- 4 lightning cables
- 10 pairs of socks

Will report back in 90 days when it gets here

I bought a set of plastic rulers from banggood.com which cost me $0.01, shipping included.

Sure enough, they made their way to me somehow. Blew my mind. 1 cent for something to be shipped over.

I was thinking of buying a snowboard off it for kicks for my little brother.
How do you find vendors who aren't selling like 3000 minimum orders though?

Most of it is just electronics, but like a friend of mine got 400 wedding invites for like 30 bucks a while back. They were super nice.

We need a thread of "Spend $20 and play the waiting game."

I spent $20 and got:
- A mini drone.
- Bluetooth item finder.
- Cable ties.

Yooooo those genesis games are mad fake! Genesis carts never looked like that. Cool that it's cheap though. Shinobi 3 is like 40 dollars now.

I've dabbled in dealextreme a few years back when I was a high schooler who didn't have a lot of money and every dollar counted. It introduced me to the world of high end flashlights, but nowadays i prefer amazon for faster shopping and customer service.
