I shouldn't even be considering this (I just moved to MS5 from MS4 three months ago), but what sort of features does Clip Studio have that MS5 doesn't?

Oh, then maybe I really should be looking into this.

A bunch of UI improvements and things like turning off finger painting.

Wait what about the recent update to Clip from Manga? Is that version of Clip still behind?
If you buy Manga Studio 5 from Smith Micro digitally, it's just Clip Studio Paint so you should be good. I'm talking about those who bought a CD of MS5.

I've slowly been transitioning from Sai to this. I never liked Sai's blending options though but I'm curious does CS/MS have good blending/ palette knife tools?

CMYK, dark interface, direct layer selection, layer grouping - everything I need is here. An absolute steal at 20, but still ridiculously affordable at full price.

It's only 20 dollars, so i'll probably get it anyway, but if you use photoshop, what is the advantage of this, aside from price? (if any).
It has that line stabilizer, which i never tried (and i'm honestly skeptical about), which could be useful for quick inking of sketches, maybe.
Anything else in particular that makes it stand out?

Ok, just watched this, an i'm sold.
So many features i've been wanting from photoshop for years, but they don't seem to give much of a shit.

Mmm, for $20 this is a steal. The features like reference layer selections, treating multiple strokes in quick succession as a single undo, auto expanding fills, virtual mirroring, and such are the type of things anyone paying attention to user interaction would implement.

Grabbed a copy, I'm always down to try a new drawing program and this looks like it has some really nice features.

Also moving multiple layers from a selection, without having to merge.
Mind boggling that Photoshop still can't do that.

Their perspective tools also look insane, especially compared to the barebones stuff you have in PS.

It just seems like drawing (that isn't straight up digital painting) is a bit of an afterthought for PS, which is aimed mostly at photographers, whereas this one is focused on it specifically.

Expanding fills and referring to other layers are godsends. You can lay down flats in seconds without having to worry too much about selections or all the little gaps and uncolored areas.

Also, Clip Studio has freaking tablet calibration software built in to minimize the maximum pressure you need to apply to your strokes based on an average of how hard you press down drawing normally. No more cramped hands.

Not to mention the various stabilization tools to keep your line art from the dreaded "jittery" effect that Photoshop and other programs often give you when you don't lay down you strokes quick enough.

Did all of these with the Frenden inks pack and the Frenden wet media pack.

Awesome, those are so cool!

Smith Micro might have not communicated this effectively, but both physical and digital editions of Manga Studio 5 receive the same upgrade to Clip Studio Paint:

http://blog.smithmicro.com/manga-studio-to-clip-studio-paint-join-forces

So if you've already bought an edition of Manga Studio 5 from Smith Micro, you can get the upgrade for free.

As far as I know, Smith Micro handles the English localization of Clip Studio Paint for Celsys, so the latest updates for the English version should come out at the same time on both Celsys' website (http://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl) and Smith Micro's website (http://my.smithmicro.com/manga-studio-5-updates.html), and are interchangeable regardless of where you download them.

Hmm I remember using manga studio a long time ago, but it looks like they made some improvements. I guess I'll check it out (a lot of gaf love here), $20 is nothing to pay.

I use this software all the time. Highly recommended for drawing, perspective in this program is so much more intuitive to me than in photoshop. I think photoshop is much better for inking/painting/coloring so I basically use Clip Studio/Manga Studio for the bones of my work

I highly recommend this software and for $20 it's a great price. Once I started getting used to it I never went back to anything else.

Here's a couple things I recently drew in Clip Studio:

Just pulled the trigger on this, thanks for the heads up.

Can I use the same license for multiple devices? I've been looking into getting a tablet for drawing and was wondering if I would need to buy another license.

I have it running on my PC and Surface Pro tablet with one license.

Clip studio is awesome!!

Has much better brush engine than photoshop and faster overall as well.

It even has basic 3D mannequins and blocking to help with posing and perspective.

Does this have the same features as the EX version of Manga Studio?

The main difference between Pro and EX is EX enables you to create multiple pages in one file. Unless you are planning on drawing a big multi page manga, EX is really not that important.

Holy shit lol. Bought.

I was putting off buying this because of work, and just happen to see this go on sale on my day off. Awesome.

Now that I have this I'd like to try TVPaint as well.

One downside seems to lack of importable/exportable vector formats directly (AI/SVG/EPS/etc). It's pretty much just PSD support in that regard (and path pasting I imagine), which is a bit surprising considering its focus on vector brushes and Illustrator-esque features.

Tried out the trial, and I can see why people like it, coloring especially feels a lot more fluid than with Photoshop. One specific question for people more familiar with this program: is there a way to adjust the way you zoom and scroll? That's the one thing that feels backwards to me.

I just use scrubby zoom.

Hit Z or whatever key you've got mapped. Drag left or right on the canvas.

Scroll I think is default mapped to space, if you hold it down and then drag

I got it and I'm impressed, it's pretty cool. They do themselves a disservice with the trial version, so much of the functions are shut off. I tried it a few months ago but wasn't sure it was worth $50, but it is clearly worth that so $20 is a steal.

Are there any good noob tutorials on how to use it? I figured out the basic functions but the official manual is a bit dense (and dry).

Gave it a try. I'm... going to have to watch some tutorials. Couldn't even find the fancy rulers. At least I can confirm that going from the physical version of Manga Studio 5 to Clip Studio is painless (you just download it and put in your MS5 product key).

TVPaint is the best drawing/animation software, easily.

That said for $20 this is a steal.

If I buy this software, how would I get it onto my tablet without a CD drive? How does that work exactly? Or do I just download the software onto the tablet and just use the code key it comes with?

Really interested in Manga Studio 5

I'm a Surface Pro 3 user

When I downloaded it, I was able to just put in the serial key and open it from there, so the latter

Oh nice. And so can the serial key be used for more than on PC? Like my Desktop and Tablet? And can the software be downloaded straight from their site?

You can have two activated devices at once, you can activate a new device by deactivating one of the two.

You just download the trial from their site and put in your serial to activate the full version.

One time purchase. $87 version is for comic/manga stuff (managing pages, panels, etc) and full animation features.
are future updates / versions free if you buy it now?
yes
