Hey I'm not up to date on downloading software licenses. If I buy it now, does that mean I can use the license on any computer I want? Or if I buy it now, is it stuck on my current computer?

Been using Manga Studio 5 for a few years, and it is great. Damn good deal on the new version.

Wait, is Clip Studio the same as Manga Studio? What's the difference?
You can activate it anywhere, but only up to two computers at once. For example, if you activate it on two computers and replace one, you deactivate one of the old devices. At least that's my understanding from here: http://www.clipstudio.net/en/support

Just on my earlier post re vector export. Does the PSD export option expand the vector brushes as paths or simply rasterize them? The demo limits seeing what the export options are.
It's pretty much the only thing keeping me from picking up a copy since while the features I've seen are excellent if vector exporting is non-existent it becomes less useful.
I'm assuming this is for minor versions only or is it actually a lifetime license for major versions as well?

Clip Studio is a Japanese program. Manga Studio is the English version of it.

It's exactly the same. "Manga Studio" is just what the official localizations of CSP were called before the home company decided to translate and release it directly.
I've been messing around with this for about 30 minutes and it's already gonna be my default program for drawing it's just so good. I went back to one of my older drawings I never finished and just tried doing some quick line work and it's so effortless. Gonna try some of the colouring options next.

FYI, while it's famous for digital inking and linework, the painting engine in the current version is also very powerful. The handful of default brushes that ship with it simply don't show it off well. There's lots of free and cheap to buy brush sets around the internet that demonstrate how great CSP's painting really is.

Got this on sale a month or two ago. Really pleased with it, as someone who used SAI before. Has a ton a neat features and even has a component to do some animation with it. I would definitely recommend picking it up at this price.

Dell Venue Pro 10 5055 if you are dirt poor and need the cheapest option with good pen capability.
Lenovo Ideapad Miix 700 for thin and light. (Bonus: here's me doing a quick sketch on Miix 700 with Clip Studio Paint)
Thinkpad Yoga 14 20FY0002US for convertible ultrabook with discrete GPU
Dell Inspiron 15 7568 for giant screen 2 in 1 with very easy to upgrade parts (only the 1080p screen Core i5 version uses pen).
All four uses Wacom AES digitizer and is simply sublime to use with Clip Studio Paint. Get the new Wacom Bamboo AES pen for them.
It works very well and I find It feels a lot like photoshop. i'd say give it a shot if money is an issue and you can't afford a monthly fee. I had no issues importing and adjusting images at all last night when I was playing around with all the tools and options. I'm definitely gonna switch over this program just feels so much nicer to draw in. I find when drawing in this program it feels a lot tighter where as photoshop feels kind of loose, I found that drawing lines felt a lot more consistent in this program.

The brushes don't feel right on a Mac, even after setting the brush priority as recommended to fix some heavy lag.

That's pretty cool, it's nice to see the animation tools work well especially for only an hour of learning the program. Should keep it updated I'd like to see how it turns out.

It has the basics, in addition to non-destructive adjustment layers (called 'Correction layers' here), layer masks, and surprisingly smart objects (called here 'File objects'). The tools and features are more geared toward illustration than image editing but it's certainly solid. There's a demo version available to try.
One thing to note about Krita is it lacks mouse mode support for graphics tablets so if you're using one and are more comfortable with that mode it's basically unusable. For pen mode or touch screens this is irrelevant.

Did you click the tool icon in the bottom right corner of the brush settings? You can set all sorts of additional settings in there. I have all lines set to auto-correct for instance. There's tutorials on YouTube about brush settings that are pretty quick and helpful too.

SP3 and SP4 are 12" and 12.3" respectively. If you are OK with their sizes, I highly recommend them over 8" or 10.1" due to use of Atom CPUs of eMMC storage.
If you move up to 12", get the Miix 700 as detailed in earlier post.
If you must stay 10" and below, your choices are limited. Dell Venue 8 Pro 5855 is pretty much only option with pen for 8". For 10", you can opt for Dell Venue 10 pro 5055, but it uses older CPU.
Surface 3 option for 10" frankly is not my favorite. It uses N-Trig Duo Sense 2, and in S3, it does not have the touch co-processor MS and N-Trig introduced in SP4 and Surface Book. This means that the pen action will be dependent on CPU power. This reduces the pressure actuation response greatly on the Surface 3 due to the very weak Atom CPU.
With Wacom AES, as with Wacom EMR, a co-processor off loads the touch and pen operation from the CPU, so even the Atom CPU tablets will give you nearly full pressure curve response and low initial insertion force.
For AES vs EMR, I think AES is better for smaller tablets due to lack of edge jittering and edge accuracy. It is more susceptible to palm rejection errors, but with Clip Studio Paint's ability to stop marking with touch, it's not a big issue IMO.
How do you feel about the SP4? Now that the prices are coming down a bit I'm interested, but wondering if I should wait for SP5/SB2.
Are you on Windows 10? Palm rejection is completely broken on Windows 10 with a Surface Pro 2. It made Clip Studio completely useless to me.
Until this week I had been using a Surface Pro 2 with Clip Studio for 100% of my art output and loving every minute of it. I upgraded the SP2 to Windows 10, saw that palm rejection was broken, and rolled back to Windows 8.1. You may need to do the same.

With Lenovo Ideapad Miix 700 going for $800 with Core M7, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD, and most importantly the Wacom AES pen, I can't bring myself to recommend the SP4 for art for several hundred more.
First issue is the value. To get 8GB of RAM, you need to spend over $1200, usually over $1300 for SP4. Also the keyboard is separate purchase and too expensive IMO. Miix 700 KB is not as good, but it's serviceable and comes with the unit.
Second issue is pen. The new pen for SP4 is step forward and step back. The interchangeable tips are nice, but taking one of the barrel buttons and sticking on the back as eraser was terrible for art. Before, you could use the second barrel button as eraser with pressure sensitivity of the tip. Now you have an on/off eraser on the back. Stupid...
Also the initial insertion force of the tip on the N-Trig pens are not as good as Wacom tips. You can definitely feel how much harder you have to press on the tip to get the ink flowing.
Obviously the PS4 is a better built device than Miix 700, but I don't think it's $500 better for similar capability of the hardware, and for art, AES is much better than Duo Sense 2.

Yeah I'm on Windows 10. Great.
It's really sad how badly MS has botched Windows for tablet use. Say what you will about Win 8 but it's far and away superior to Win 10 if you want to use it as a tablet.

I have manga studio 4 lying around someplace, and while I liked the tools, file export was extremely limited (JPG and PSD only iirc.)
Is that remedied in this version, or do I have to use Gimp to rexport from the PSD?
