Game Critics Awards (official game press E3 awards) - E3 2016 Nominees

Lots of curious omissions here given a lot of what was actually at E3.

Was Nier Automata not playable or something? I thought it was. Looked like it'd be a shoe-in for best action game... but apparently best action game is not there this year, replaced instead with best shooter :(

Also... no way Zelda doesn't walk every category it's in.

I seriously have to try Sea of Thieves, before judging. Only saw the footage of all the MS conferences and this game looks like dogshit. Especially the E3 gameplay 'demo' with all the fake talk was horrendous.

Yeah, I didn't think it looked too great either.

Some of the people in that video were GAFfers too

I mean I always knew GAFfers were #NoTrueGamer

According to Easy Allies Sea of Thieves had huge lines on the show floor.

I think Huber said that all the Zelda overflow went to SoT.

Rare must have done something right because previews have been great.

Zelda seems to be the prohibitive favorite. Horizon won original game last year. These awards have a really strange track record.

Watch Battlefield 1 win Best of Show...

Zelda or Horizon got this I hope.

Doing some quick searches, a lot of the bigger outlets just gave out a list of their favorite games instead of awarding winners, so I'm not sure there's a quick pile to just look at for the answer.

Like I said in another thread, I'm happy to have lived to see a modern Rare game being featured in the ranks of games like Zelda again.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
Have you guys played Deus Ex: HR? The game is definitely an RPG.

I'm pretty sure he's not questioning Deux Ex. Literally every site and preview I've seen labels Horizon as an RPG, but for some reason it got put into the Action/Adventure category here.

Personally I've already brought this up too, and I agree it could be in this category but it's odd to see it after seeing it being called an RPG for so long.

I mean they've been calling it an RpG, but that's like calling Far Cry 4 an RPG. Technically you could but it's really an action adventure game at its core that has upgrading and rpg elements

Or maybe I could be wrong and horizon has multiple towns, dungeons etc idk

I will never understand these awards lists.

Titanfall 2 was good enough to be nominated for best in show but failed to get a second nom for either PC or Console game of show.

I fall in line with these picks over GAF's Games of E3, lol.

Great to see Rare and SoT's getting some love, now hurry the fuck up with that beta! :)

I'm guessing a lot of journalists vote for the console and PC awards based on if they feel the game embodies the values of the platform the best.

Titanfall 2 kind of treads between the platforms so it could get vote split or ignored in favor of games that are more directly tied to the platform, like how Civilization is thought of as a PC game in nature.

The lack of Nier is mind boggling if it was playable. Then again critics thought the first one was shit and it only became cool to like it after the fact.

Why is Horizon under Action/Adventure instead of RPG?

I don't get people like you. Horizon, Dark Souls, and so on are not RPGs. They should never be considered RPGs.

I just had a war with our internal staff about this when we were coming up with our own E3 awards. A handful of people told me how dumb I was for thinking that. :D

What? Dark Souls DEFINITELY is an RPG.

I'll be damned if I'm going to call any game that doesn't have a party system in it an RPG.

..well, okay, save a few options like say Fallout 4, which keeps its RPG tag through other means.

I had already made a thread about it a week or so ago, but everybody seems to be raving about sea of thieves. A lot of sites have given it awards for beat of show, some saying its the most fun they have had at e3 in years

I am getting a Titanfall with a dash of Evolve Tea in some of the comments and impressions about Sea of Thieves.

Me and some friend will keep our expectations on check for that one.

I would argue that Dark Souls has quite a bit more "Role Playing" than Fallout 4. Horizon seems more like Open world Monster Hunter not really an RPG. I'm not really sure what Aloy is supposed to be unlike how Geralt is a monster Hunter in more ways than one.

You rather people say it's garbage. I mean if a game is showing promise it's great. Rather than the opposite of course. If it turns out the exact opposite on release oh well these things happen. This could happen with any game, look good turn out garbage on release or even vice versa. Better for it to show promise.
