Pokémon Go is live on the Google Play Store

So close to level 5, another pokemon capture away and then I'll hit up all the gyms around me. One dude with a pidgeot has 3 of them and another with a Golbat.

After playing with it for a bit, some things I'd like to see introduced;

Animations for driving and cycling, not priority but would be a nice touch. Say if your speed is consistently > 20km/h but <40km/h they'd show you on a bike, if your speed is consistently >40km/h then a car.

Pokegear type thing, I'd love to be able to tune into some sort pokemon tv telling me the forecast and what type of pokemon to expect for the day. It'd be cool to also have events broadcast in the same way too.

Some sort of players-who-have-visited count for the day at pokestops and gyms. As well some sort of live feedback to show who is actively playing around you.

Actual feedback on distance/direction of nearby pokemon. It'd feel more like a hunt.

Yeah, they're gonna have to work really hard at adding new content, because there just isn't a whole lot to do atm. Hopefully they release the 2nd gen within the first 6 months.

Can anyone tell me if this saves data to the account you use to sign in or is it all on the phone?

i'm gonna install Cyannogen soon and don't want to loose my progress

This is pretty cool, but definitely feels like v0.8. There doesn't seem to be a whole of content beyond the obvious. A couple of comments/questions:

- It seems to easy to grind items and Pokemon while riding the bus. In about 10 minutes on the way home I hit up about 6-8 Poke Stops and caught three Pokemon.
- Is there a way to add friends, and see their Pokedexes?
- Can you see your Pokemon in AR, after you've caught them? Or only when you're trying to catch them?
- The GPS tracking seems kind of funky.

How are PokeStops determined? There are a shitton of them in my university and I don't know where they could've drawn the data from (not even in the US).

Jeez, there's literally nothing in my area. I wonder if GO even works on military installations?

And there's only a couple Pokestops off base... and no Pokemon?

Maybe the servers are just borked right now. That'd be very disappointing if they forgot about Cheyenne. XD but not surprising.

Time to deploy soldier. ha
what region are you in? That is interesting they may not be on military installations. hmmm
then again they might not want people risking trespassing to catch some badass Pokemon in a restricted area.

MP: You are lucky we didn't shoot you. Why did you trespass onto a military facility?
PokeFan: There was a Charizard with crazy high CP Sir.
MP: Whaaaaa?

It doesn't work in military bases. Federal regulations.

Is anyone able to log in with their Pokemon Trainer Club info? Ever since this went live, I've been trying to recover my username and password for my PTC account and it keeps stating it doesn't recognize my email address which is ridiculous since I still receive regular emails from them.

Hear about the kid that got mugged and stabbed because he wasn't paying attention while playing this? Stepping into the wrong neighborhood type of thing.

Yep, it's not based on your account but on your territory.
Even an australian guy coming to Japan wouldn't be able to get anything right now.
Hopefully we'll get it this evening or during the night. I REALLY need to claim all those gyms I spotted yesterday haha.

cool, thanks for the info

You can't choose if your Eevee evolves into Flareon, Jolteon, or Vaporeon. :(

So day in, I think it's pretty damn cool game. I didn't really get in to Ingress - but this is working for me a lot better. I'm in a city populated with loads of stops (almost too many, haha, I live at one too so I can grind for items like nobody's business), it's a great take on the idea of Pokemon and is definitely mobile-driven. You can tell there's good experience behind it.

That said, here are some other thoughts.

Definitely needs to a bit more work on the new user flow with things like how the spots work, how battles work, appropriate tutorials as you go through. I've been helped by Twitter/NeoGAF, but a friend has been trying it and things haven't been obvious to them.

This one I'm a bit conflicted about - should there be something to do when say, at home. I guess that's not what the game is about - it's about going out and exploring. So it couldn't be too much - but it is of a weird feeling to have a game you want to play more of, but you... can't. Just to help mix things up and add a bit of depth, I guess.

Local multiplayer would be a big addition. I understand you really 100% shouldn't see all other local trainers in real time - but if it's someone you know, through bluetooth or the some sort of local syncing (like when you both choose a colour), for trading for battle, that'd be cool.

One thing I'm wondering about is what happens when you're a new player, yet your city's gyms have swelled to much higher levels? You can train at a friendly one but you'll lose, and it'll take a while for you to match, and you'll miss out on a bit of the gameplay, and it could be a slog to catch up. What else do you do but catch? Trying to complete your Pokedex is fun but think there might need to be something else too. I could be wrong on this but it'll be interesting to see how they can mix up behaviour.

Wonder if they could do timed events based on catching too, little competition/task type things. So as well as raid style battle events, but hey, you've got a Professor that wants you to research - a 3 day challenge to catch however many of X type, or X of certain weight, or something else, and if you hit the criteria, you get an item or something. Definitely needs refining, but the idea that there's tasks you can do yourself regardless of others - and reasons to keep going back in.

As an odd aside, I don't feel like I'll have as strong a 'bond' with my Pokemon on this - whereas on the traditional games I'd really try and keep my starters, or early captures, and train. Because they're yours, and yeah, you mix up and change as you go through, but they're your team. But as the mechanics of the game are simpler and it's about getting as many as you can - if you catch a duplicate with higher CP, well you might as well just transfer the lower one for a candy. Don't think this is something that *needs* sorting, but thought was interesting.

I'm trying to catch Charmander but everytime I turn on the AR camera it says "Can't detect phone's orientation". I hear his growl and all, but he's not showing up anywhere in my room :(

Yeah yeah yeah, I know I can turn AR off and catch him, but where's the fun in that?

Mannnn yall spending some cash aint no way
Haven't spent a dime on the game. I just live in the capital of my country and there's a bunch of pokestops and gyms around, and not that many ppl playing atm since the game isn't actually out here.

I get that too. Your phone either doesn't have a gyroscope or if it does, it doesn't work for some reason.

COOL APPARENTLY YOU NEED A GYRO IN YOUR PHONE FOR AR MODE AND MY PHONE DOESN'T HAVE ONE

It's okay, I've just been looking forward to Pokemon go for half a year and bought a Pokedex case for my smartphone because of it

Why does this require a gyro but Ingress didn't? Maaan this is such a bummer.

Yeah. Gut feeling said it wouldn't work but I figured I'd ask anyways... xD

Wyoming, by the way. Land of pronghorn and the chainlink "windsock".

Not gonna lie, MP here would definitely go after that Charizard first. We got a ton of nerds here. XD

Calling it a day. Won't play again until later in the afternoon when my Mall is open and I actually get some sleep.

Fun fact, I just googled the average human walking speed since I feel like walking 7 miles from 1 AM-4 AM is pretty low lol...

The walk is a four-beat gait that averages about 4 miles per hour (6.4 km/h).

I walked 11.34 KM in 3 hours, so my average is 3.7km/h.

I'M SLOW AS FUCK GUYS :c

Thats still crazy... idk how much you played but my area based early it seems it will be a while and im in the city

Seems CP fluctuates. It's dependant on the Pokémon's size, trainer level and so forth. Yergh
I have noticed that there is a cp cap depending on your trainer level so you can fill it up but then have to level up your trainer to upgrade the cp 1 or 2 times more.

I have a few questions guys, I'm little bit lost since I'm new with these phone games.

- What does Stardust do ?
- How do I hatch a Egg ?
- When they show Pokemon that may be close to me how do I get to see them in the map ?
- Also I'm Motorola G third generation and the game doesn't recognize the gyro of the phone so it doesn't activate in RA but can I still use RA ? Will it be fixed on next updates ?

Thanks !

So the battery saving mode supposedly turns off the screen when you hold the phone upside down, but I can't get it to work. Would be a nice way to save on battery by placing it upside down in your pocket. Anyone elsr have this problem?

It also complains that it can't tell my phone's orientation when I use the AR mode. This phone (moto g3) doesn't have a gyroscope iirc so maybe that's related to both issues.

I walk to work every day, managed to catch a paras, a venonat, and two zubats, all in 20 minutes of walking (aprox. 1.5 KM) this is so damn addictive...

And with battery save i only went from 99% o 86% which is good since my phone is a crappy one

1. It's used to power up Pokémon
2. Walk
3. Just walk around
4. I can't answer that

Find that hard to believe. Your area naturally is packed with Zubats AND Eevees AND Pidgeys AND Nidoran Ms AND Nidoran Fs that you can evolve them?

What does having a lot of gyms around have to do with anything? Especially since you say no one is playing near you?

I can see either youre walking a lottttttttttttttttt and Pokestops are giving you a ton of incense, or youre spending money and playing a lot too. Lol

Wow, this app is a hot mess. When it asks for permission to use GPS and whatnot, pressing the "allow" buttons doesn't do anything. It only responds to "deny".

Those permission request prompts are from the Android OS itself. How do you even fuck that up?

Oh I didn't see this, but as I mentioned in my post below yours I don't think the moto g3 has a gyroscope. Only accelerometers. Maybe they'll try to make it work with accelerometers but I wouldn't bet on it. Honestly though, the AR mode seems like a nuisance anyway.
