Mario Kart 8 is the worst 3d mario kart

Nah I disagree.

Battle mode was never really that great in any MK except for a diversionary laff in 4P split screen.

200cc automatically makes it better than most MK games.

I was one of those annoying people who said MK64 and Super Mario Kart were the best Mario Kart games - until 8 came out. Fantastic racing mechanics. The battle mode is indeed a bummer, though.

Aside from Battle Mode, all of these complaints read like:

1) you deliberately ignored when these issues showed up in past Mario Kart games
2) you seriously believe that other Mario Kart games actually have more hazards than MK8
3) you played with people who aren't good at finding opportunities to knock you off the track

Jesus. Well uh... battle mode is pretty shitty but the racing is so god damn fun I don't care? Also the soundtrack is straight up incredible.

I can't say it's that bad but besides the obvious Battle mode issues, there is at least one other additional complaint that OP touched on, and it's the item system. The real reason behind it is, however, because item probabilities are not just based on race position, but also on distance from the leader. This means that, once one person breaks away from the pack, usually due to getting the luckiest at the first set of items + some good driving, they can stay there nearly forever because the players far behind that are in the pack will always be getting powerful items and screwing each other over while the first player continues to increase their lead. The only item that can really shake this up is the blue shell, due to it having a much greater influence on 1st place than anything else.
I'm guessing the system was implemented so that bigger leads could be shortened more easily, but in practice it ends up doing the exact opposite.

Also if any game had tracks that were bland and too wide it's Mario Kart 64. Many of them were also way too long, like Wario Stadium and Rainbow Road.

Further distancing myself from the general dissent in the thread, I find MK64 one of the chunkiest unenjoyable entries in the series. Now there's a game I can't stand playing.
I'm with you, I grew up on smk, and N64 was like the cars were driving in molasses. And the battle mode was boring because of the speed.

Dude, MK8 is the first MK to really get me hooked in years. Its incredible. I'll agree the Koopa kids and baby versions are a garbage way to round out the roster, but other than that I have no complaints. Its amazing.

These are always entertaining.

You aren't alone, op. I agree with you completely. Despite that, the game is still fun to me though which speaks volumes about the quality of the series as a whole.

i can´t disagree more.

MK8 has returned some balance to the gameplay (no more huge differences between bikes and karts) and nerfed overpowered items, making strategy more acceptable. And antigravity is less gimmicky than motion controls.

Also. NO MORE HELL ITEM SPAMMING.

For me, DS is the best. and Mario Kart 8 is in a solid 2nd or 3rd, Mario Kart 64 is tied with it.

Not to mention online actually ROCKS in MK8. I've must have played 10,000 races online. It is brutal and unrelenting. You will swear at the TV, but god damn if it isn't satisfying.

So you liked Mario Kart Wii better because the items gave more of an unfair advantage (the reason why I hated the game)?

Yeah, I can't agree at all. Mario Kart 8 is my favorite 3D Mario Kart by far.

Edit: I do agree about the really weak/lazy battle mode though. The game's online multiplayer makes up for it in my opinion.

After playing Mario kart 8 with 200cc, everything else has become unplayably slow and worse. Mario kart 8 is therefore the best.

Thread backfire lol. Can't disagree more. Now, I haven't played DD in forever, but 8 is certainly better than 64, 7, and Wii. 8 and DS are my two favorites of the franchise.

disagree highly. I love how big the tracks are, the music is amazing, game finally feels "kinda" balanced" lol

recently I played double dash and yuck i can't go back to playing that game.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

Yeah, I'll never get the sentiment of Wii being better than 8. The bike/kart discrepancy absolutely destroyed that game. "Oh, want to play online? Have fun playing against 7 Funky Kong bikers!"

Magical moments...
I need you to do 200cc frantic kart gaf.
You will have plenty magical (salty as fuck) moments.

Sure the battle mode was not good, but is better every where else.

It's the best by far for me.

The heavy characters are overpowered for sure though, and it has the worst battle mode, I guess we can agree on that.

It's one of my favorite Mario Kart game. I love the frantic mode with kart gaf because we gets more strong items. Because I love to see moments like these.

I somehow get lucky for getting reds shells most of the time. :3

As for the music, The music is incredible. Grumble Volcano is my favorite.

OP, 8 is incredible. It looks, plays and sounds so great.

Lack of battle mode does bring the experience down slightly, but in fairness battle mode on the console entries has been entirely skippable since 64.

Yeah, 100% agree. Mario Kart Wii hasn't aged well at all. Looks, feels, and plays like a cheap knockoff.

Battle Mode aside, I couldn't disagree more. MK8 is easily the best game in the series. And if it wasn't for said subpar Battle Mode, I'd be worried about how Nintendo could make Mario Kart 9 better.

I owned both and played the latter less. DKR is overrated.

I'm sorry you have such horrific taste in games.

It may be overrated but it's a much better game than 64. Deeper, tighter racing, better item system -- I can't think of one area where MK64 beats it. More iconic roster. That's it.

Strongly disagree. MK8 is one of the best wii U games out and it's tracks are incredible.

Sure battle mode sucks but battle mode always sucks so whatever.

It's basically pure fun and I've probably got more enjoyment out of it than any other Wii U game not called Wonderful 101.

Personally I think it's the best entry in the series. If anything, the N64 version is bland and uninspired in comparison.

I just wish the items were more effective or required a bit more finesse to them.

Like if you use triple mushrooms all at once, the effect should have a slight stacking effect so it goes faster than just one mushroom. I also miss how in 64 when you threw a red shell, there was a period at the initial throw where the red shell flies like a green one before it "activates" and chases, but then when it caught up it would shift to chasing you in a straight path so it was possible to lure it to run into an obstacle. Anything would be better than how they seem to avoid other races and all obstacles to hit you.

I like the game but I can't help but feel that luck is still too much of a deciding factor. There's only so much skill you can manage to beat a triple red shell behind you, thunder, and then hit with a star.

And fuck the coin item. It should only appear for the first three position racers. What the hell am I gonna do with coins in 9th place??

Agree on a few of your points OP, but it's still my favorite MK since the SNES.

They still haven't found a good way to keep everyone in the middle of the pack from getting royally screwed, and the guy way out in front from getting an easy win. Blue shells only do so much.

I'm leaving so I don't have time to address all of OPs complaints

but it's fact that half of the OPs complaints are present in the games he himself lauds over Mario Kart 8

like, it actually blew my MIND when I read that paragraph that insinuated

"Mario Kart 8's tracks are too wide! BUT MARIO KART WII, BOY, THOSE TRACKS WERE JUST FINE"

like lolololololol, it must have been years since you've played Mario Kart Wii, right? That's the only explanation for that little nugget of wisdom.

I laugh so hard everytime I see this.

Also, I'm glad you can't knock off people. That shit is dumb.

Sorry, OP, but vehemently disagree. Best Mario Kart in years.
