Is it still unsafe to use windows update with Win7? I accidentally did a manual check for updates this morning and I'm scared. Don't want none of that forced Win10 shit.

I think tomorrow is the last day. After that you will be fine unless MS announce "due to unprecedented demand, we're free for longer"

Pulling that noose tighter now that they have a huge catch.

Microsoft is making a really great argument for why you want a free (as in libre) operating system. Sad that Linux is still totally unusable for normal users though. Maybe Win 10 will become so bad that eventually a bunch of software companies come together to "fix" Linux, simply to have a good dev environment for their own developers that they can fully control.

Yeah it blows. I have little confidence in Linux getting into gear for many years even with the support of several companies in future. My plans should Windows get untenable, is to move my software stuff over to Mac and leave the Windows PC purely for gaming. If that goes to shit too, I'll bounce back to Win7 for gaming, but I doubt PC gaming can get in that bad of a state that even I couldn't tolerate it, without some kind of major fallout

A bit late, but happy birthday man puncher~

Hey SteamGAF, what are your favorite indie games or early access games that have been released this year? Looking for something new and interesting to play and there's too many choices in the steam store lol

Grim Dawn. Get it.

Is it possible to have two separate download directorys on uPlay(similar to steam)?
SSD is low on space so I'd rather download onto my HDD and keep my games on my SSD installed

I really wanted to like Grim Dawn, but I just don't think it's very fun. Combat is a slogfest, gear upgrades are way way too random as you're leveling (went 13 levels before finding a weapon upgrade in the middle of the campaign) and to stay strong in combat you end up dumping most of your points into passive stats. There's a lot of neat ideas in the game, and I liked Titan Quest, but it feels like they took TQ and slowed it down and only sort of balanced everything.

Edit: You also can't get a feel for a build or character for entirely too long. All I did was play through the campaign co-op with my brother, and it took over 20 hours. Probably over 10 hours before the character was really "established" and I had most of my skills. I said this in the 52 game challenge thread in my comments about it, but if they add a character builder/trainer or something I will totally waste more time on the game screwing with builds and classes, but I don't have 300 hours to burn right now doing it the hard way.

Pretty sure you can install uPlay games wherever you want.

I had The Division beta (uplay) installed on my D: drive, while uPlay is on C.

There are way better choices.

Just realized that the game now has controller support. Not perfect, but decent enough.

I rarely (or maybe almost never) buy early access games anyway. I'll get them when they're released.

Kinda agree with the weapon upgrade. Sometimes I ended up getting my upgrades from the shops.

Blade Arcus in 5 hours. Anyone here getting that?

I just bought it. Seems to run fine. I'm not one to ask about netcode since I'm in San Diego County and there's probably a few people in the area who also have the game within a close proximity.... maybe. Even so some of the matches seems kind of... laggy at times. The gameplay is okay. I'm going to keep it just because I love Degica so much. I'll probably put in about 10 hours into the game.

Gameplay is a bit clunky but mostly ok. The characters are not that interesting and the movesets are not that interestings. The online was like playing underwater with concrete blocks tied to each leg. Overall I rather play Battle Fantasia which I have collecting dust in Steam.

Blade Arcus is ass. I love fighting games but... this game is not good. I just played a slow motion match online and someone disconnected after I killed them and I was presented with this:

This game... is tragic. Even offline feels stiff and awkward. You're better off buying Melty Blood, Arcana Heart, Guilty Gear or one of the many other fighting games available.

I've had more fun witht he character in the game than with Street Fighter V. If there wasn't such a huge gap in skill online and a bigger player pool, I'd put more time in it. I just got off the game just now after playing Blade Arcus... Just so I could cleanse my palate.

I LOVE Yuzuriha. Badass strong female character.

Bought Fallout 4 on disc, but the drive isn't installing the game properly, it's going very slow, and no it's not downloading the game in the background as I checked in task manger. I'm just going to download it from steam, seems like the quickest way for me. The thing is my drive is making a lot of noise like it's reading the disc but very little data is getting installed.

This game, man.

Tried to leave a HUGE sidequest area without getting detected. Somehow fuck up and make my way to the roof. Shut off some transmission. Turns out I have now completely bypassed a main quest trying to leave a sidequest. (But props to the developers for making it available ahead of time, and having dialogue to reflect it.)

Get back to my apartment, "oh btw go back into that area crawling with villains so you can use the helipad." FFFFUUUUU....

Deus Ex: HR? I think I know which area you're talking about. I had... an adventure getting to the top floor and back again--I refused to retreat. Being purely stealth spec, I was a bit unprepared for some of the enemies, IIRC.

Really surprised me how much fun it ended up being overall. A little janky in spots, but so engaging, particularly the stealth, infiltration, and hacking stuff. Like, even the Nigerian prince spam emails pay off.

That is indeed the game. I'm having fun with it, but once they sent me back to the wolves' den I was like "That's enough Deus Ex for today."

There are some blockbuster PC games coming relatively soon. No Man's Sky, Civilization VI, Deus Ex, all appeal heavily to the PC demographic.

I'm actually most excited for Dead Rising 1.

Knowing SquareEnix, Deus Ex: MD will be wrapped in Denuvo, right?

I guess I'm gonna replay Human Revolution one last time and finish it before 23rd of August.

I like how you don't include the PC exclusive that will outsell all of those (well maybe not Civ 6, im not sure how those Civ games do on release, are they million sellers or release?)

So, I finished Headlander. Earlier today I posted how much I was loving it, and... boy, that ending soured it for me. To start off, I have no clue what the ending is about, mainly because the expository part in the ending is presented as an info dump, like every piece of flavor text in the entire game, so I completely ignored it, since I also had to deal with the infinite waves of enemies in the area, unaware to the fact that most plot points were explained in it (also, because english isn't my first language, I couldn't make sense of what I was hearing). Not that it would change anything, because the last section sucks, it sucks BAD: you're trying to move forward while having to deal with the most annoying set of enemies possible, in some very uninspired areas, design wise, and it all culminates on the shit show that is the final boss battle, that must be one of the lowest points in all games I've played this year. The only thing that holds up in it, and it's also a constant in the entire game, is the aesthetic, that never drops the ball.

That said, the game still left a positive mark on me. The whole gimmick of controlling a head and having to possess different robots of different colors is still pretty fun, with some very creative spins thrown in the mix, and the shooting is very satisfying, as the hit feedback is on point. As I've said before, the 70's aesthetic is right on, they managed to approach both the psychedelic and "corny" side of it, and it all meshes very well. I finished the game with 94% done, didn't bother going after the few upgrades left, as the navigation through the areas was starting to piss me off (to get to some areas that aren't direct linked to the main map, you need to go through some specific teleporters, and because those aren't shown in the map, if you have a bad memory like me you'll have look in every nook and cranny again to see if you can find it), after 8 hours, which is somewhat short but didn't bother me. Overall, yeah I guess you can wait for the next Steam Sale on this one.

EDIT: OH YEAH let me also talk about the writing in this game. The story is mostly fine, I didn't care much about it but it's at least intriguing, and the game is basically composed of fetch quests, like go do that, now fix those 5 things, grab those 3 things, didn't bother me since the exploration itself is tons of fun. But the humor is silly, and not the good kind of silly, it's borderline childish. There are tons of puns thrown in it, most coming from the colored doors (there's even a neat detail, because the colors sorta follow a hierarchy, that goes from red-orange-yellow-green-blue-pink, and when you try to open a door with a color that isn't yours they throw some shade at you), that are powered by an AI that keeps complaining at how dumb their job is- it would be fine and harmless, if it wasn't for the fact that the same lines of dialogue are repeated every time you go through a door. It's cute on the first ten times, not so much on the next hundred. The rest of humor comes from the "narrator", Earl, who guides you through the journey, and the joke is based around his south american accent, that is just... not funny? Overall, I just found it to be tiresome.

Hey guys. Built a gaming pc a few months ago and I'm really starting to dig in. Currently I'm playing Rocket League, DOOM, and Elder Scrolls Online. I noticed there's a NeoGAF group on steam. Any way I can get an invite from somebody? I need friends to play with!

You'll need to link your Steam profile for people to invite you.
Edit: Done.

Maybe it's just me but I think the before looks better. The muted colors seemed to work better for the setting. The face as well. I haven't played it so I might be off.

I prefer the old style better because it goes better with the backgrounds and the tone is portraying at the moment but the new sprites are in line with how the maid looks in the CGs and later on it makes more sense when you see later events. It will take time to adjust but overall is neither good or bad. Also the game had a few inconsistencies that seem to be tackled with the new sprites really.

Earl is not supposed to be funny, lol

He's just a normal character.

I do agree with the final section being kinda bad, especially the final boss, though. I don't think Headlander is supposed to go too much on the humor side like other DF games.
