Sean stated in the stream that due to the way the engine works, it has to render stuff that's offscreen anyway...so I think it may actually be possible without a performance hit.
From the sounds of it performance is super solid so they probably have some headroom.

Every time someone with functional eyes says it's 30, someone else with no clue claims otherwise. It's annoying when people are trying to make a decision on which format to get. I ordered the PS4 version on Friday when I thought it was 60.

At this point there's so much contradictory information that I'll just have to decide for myself. I'm not sure why Sean doesn't just state it plainly.

A cool concept to this game would be the creatures you find you name them and release them on google maps and have a POKEMON GO type of experience but with NO MAN's SKY. They should make that app, it would be a great way to experience the title outside of the title.

That would be interesting! I like the idea of exploring the universe in game and bringing alien life back to Earth haha

Anyone with a raw source recording can count frames. I have software for it for console releases so I will be running that but if anyone has it early and has an HDelgato60 and OBS can collect raw.

You can thank that godlike programming & procedural generation. It's pretty damn amazing what they've already accomplished with this game lol.
I think this tech could be applied in a lot of ways beyond a game simulating the universe for space exploration. If you think about how crazy it is to not need to pack the disc/install with assets and still have a near-limitless gameworld in X, Y, Z terms it truly is an accomplishment.

Like, these guys are using the procedural output tech to simulate the rules of our actual galaxies/observable universe in reality, but there's no need for that to be the only use case.

You could have a procedural roguelike that takes place inside a computer system/digital world and in some cases you wouldn't even have to mask the pop-in at all if it fit the lore, and crank up the volume on all the other aspects. Or you could have a Journey-ish game that took place in a totally abstract reality.

The biggest advantage by far, completely outpacing any other factor, is that the technique eliminates loading screens. Yes, there are many tradeoffs due to the fact that you're not loading a hand-crafted level with unbelievably high-res texture work and crazy custom animation and so on, but for certain types of games not having to load is such an enormous asset and key part of the fun.

Tried to nap before the 24 hour livestream but can't sleep lol.
Keep thinking about the fact that it would be easy to NOT leave the first planet and waste all 24 hours lol

Ack, that's basically not even Friday. And here's me booking the day off, lol. Was hoping for midnight on Thursday. Oh well.

Shit come on Amazon, ship my LE :(

I keep refreshing. It is awful not knowing why it hasn't shipped yet.

Mine got updated to Thursday shipping lmao and I ordered back in March and hit "release day shipping"
I'd check or contact customer chat to make sure it's coming tomorrow at this point

Fucking ridiculous and during the chat they said they sent me an email to confirm I still wanted it back in June , they lied lol

This is my last year on prime, 5th year has been worst year for me on prime

I'll tell you a funny story about PC. I was here late yesterday, and I had to take a break and do an interview with Playboy (!) - and the guy was like "what are you working on when you go back downstairs?" and I was like "compatibility for ATI opengl drivers", and he said "ummm.... could you make something up. That sounds pretty nerdy". I always knew I wasn't Playboy article material :)

Holy shit, haha.

Well it seems I'm not getting in tonight. I tried to grab the psn card off Amazon but it hung at the purchase and eventually said wait 2 hours to see what happens, however the order is listed in cancelled orders. Guess my card said no.

Every stream I watch it seems like the player has trouble aiming. Is it hard to aim in this game, peeps who have it?

That's some BS right there. They owe you credit at the least! Prime is supposed to get release date shipping, should be release date delivery. Mine still says Tues., but this is some next level BS!

I'd love to be proven wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. Do you have any screenshots from then?

Let's say the world is roughly about 1300 pixels in diameter in this image. So assuming my math is right, the surface area of the world (A = 4 π r^2) would be 5,309,292 pixels. If we say the reticle dot that represents the land demo has an area of about 6 pixels, then the demo area we saw is only about 0.00011% of this world's surface.

That image is from the one of the IGN First videos from earlier this year where Sean went into the space station and looked at the planet, and said the reticle was the size of the demo area they were at on the planet. My math or estimation could be off, but I don't think enough to turn that planet into 250km.
